I saw that yesterday on ESPN HD. It was a brutal fall. He should have been carried out. I swear he has broken bones. I didn't finish watching the whole thing so I don't know if they ever said what his injuries were.

The Sabre is a much nicer canopy then the PD 170. The flare is totally different then the Sabre.

Call Skydive Dallas and ask for Jeff Hindman. I think he lives in Fort Worth. He may be out there by now if not he is generally at skydive Dallas every Sat. and Sun. Oh and welcome to Texas. Have you been to Skydive Dallas yet?

I would like to tell you a bit more about God
beowulf replied to DropDgorgeous's topic in Speakers Corner
This has always bugged me about the Christian fantasy world. How do you know that it is God talking to you? Just "suddenly" knowing something sounds just as reliable as a ouija board,as does picking a page out of the Bible at random. Do you ever question this? Do you ever try to reason things out and use basic logic? How can it be logical to take random events and assign them to an invisible being? -
Try reading the books. I thought the first book was just as good as the first movie. The other two books really sucked. The second movie was better then the book. Can't wait to see this third movie. The reviews that I have read say it is the best of the three movies.

aaaahhh name calling how original!

Each society develops their own set of written and unwritten laws. Not all laws are neutral. Humans came up with the laws.

Now if anyone can actually prove to me with actual evidence that can be repeated that any god exists then I will change my thoughts on this matter. To date there has never been any proof of any god. If there were proof or evidence then there would be no need for faith.
-
Now that is just silly. I don't have faith that god doesn't exist. I don't think he exists because I have no reason to think he exists. Does the cookie monster exist? If there is no evidence of the existence of something then there is no need to have faith in the non existence of something.

If you have an altimeter that records jumps you might want to disable the logbook so that it doesn't add jumps.

I wasn't disputing the presence of a conscience, but that they are different from person to person and culture to culture. If it were really god speaking to humans through their conscience then wouldn't he be consistently the same no matter the culture or person? You consistently have very arbitrary and subjective "evidence" for the existence of god. How can it be taken seriously if there is no consistency?
-
conscience is very different from person to person and is even much more different between cultures. It is hardly evidence of god, but evidence of a subconscious set of rules that was developed from birth. Your evidence of god is very subjective.

What percentage of them were Al Qaeda sleeper cells? I bet they didn't ask that question!

Taking a Chicken on a Skydive -- Animal Cruelty?
beowulf replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
It's a chicken. I call it food. I call taking a chicken on a skydive playing with your food. Is it animal cruelty? I don't think so. More like food cruelty. -
although very true, that'll get under the skin of a handful of the zealous atheists here I don't think that is accurate. I am not aware of any atheists organizations whos goal is to make the world atheist or to convert people to atheism. As far as I can tell there is not much in common between atheism and religions.

I got a speeding ticket a couple of weeks ago. I would feel very liberated if I didn't have to pay it. However, I was shown my violation and am bound by the law. I must pay the fine. It does me no good to simply refuse to believe in the law. It will catch up with me sooner or later. Fear and guilt should be there if I don't pay or show up in court. I'm not liberated at all. We are are either slaves to the law (which we cannot fulfill and are, therefore, slaves to Christ; which leads to life) or we are slaves to our own selfish desires and lawlessness (which leads to death). It is appointed unto man once to die, then the judgment. There is evidence to support the speeding law and the consequences are easily seen and felt. The same can not be said for any god or gods.
-
How do you come to this conclusion? There are lots of people out there that don't have anything to do with Christianity that are not depressed. There are also plenty of Christians that suffer from depression.

What jump number was your first cutaway?
beowulf replied to illusioneer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I don't know. I am sure there are people that I know that have over 1000 with out a cut away, but I don't know who they are. I think an intentional cut away is a good idea. I don't know what the recommended number of jumps is for it. I would guess 100 jumps would be required. -

beowulf replied to illusioneer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nearly all my jumps were packed by me except tandem and AFF jumps and about 30 jumps on a brand new Sabre 2 150. Not having had a cut away doesn't seem to bother me. I didn't make it to a 1000 jumps with out one intentionally. I jumped pack jobs that I knew weren't done very well.. I was in a hurry and basically trash packed. I have finished a pack job and then start to think that I might have packed a line twist. I jumped it anyway instead of repacking it. I was fine. It untwisted as it deployed. I have had only a few jumps where I thought that I might have to cut away. I was ready to cut away if I needed to. I feel confident in my ability to react to any emergency situation with the correct procedure. -

beowulf replied to illusioneer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I guess I would qualify for the over 1000. I made it past 1000 jumps with out a cut away and who knows I might make it to 2000 with out one. -
Religion or not a Religion it's all just organized superstition.

Please push tandem student, literally?
beowulf replied to loli-75's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Don't worry once you get to the door of the plane when you are yelling NO all the tandem instructor will hear is GO! -
There are no state taxes. I don't think they have any "Contractor Taxes".
