upndownshop replied to upndownshop's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Ok Bob and Nana are always ready to help when SF rolls around, pitching in wherever they can. But after reading how much beer he is giving away, I may want to rethink this. -

The Dates You Have Been Waiting For (SF06)
upndownshop replied to upndownshop's topic in Events & Places to Jump
He told me that he will have it done by SF 06. Knowing Steve, he will. I have to call him on some exciting leads for aircraft I have picked up for the event, I will follow up with him and see where he is at. c ya!! -
You should check out Path to Paradise. It is about the first bombing in the early 90's. The last line in the movie is with the terrorist looking at the twin towers and says "Next time we will bring them both down!" Freaked me out, the first time I saw it was after 9/11. Freaky sh#*

John Would you believe that we still have the running suit and USA gear bag!! That same pic is in Bill Booths conference room. Great stuff, thanks!!

Contacts or glasses to jump?
upndownshop replied to virginflyer3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Because I have seen too many "blind" people land and it aint pretty. I feel for em, that shit has to suck. Now you go lose some money playing poker!! -
Overall I think the concept is great, its this company that I am having problems with. At least one of the "American" warranty companies are doing the right thing, not 1st American though, or the companies they use. thanks
-
Does anyone out there work for them? Or have experience with warranty companies and their lousy business practices? My next step is the BBB. If we get to that point I will also post a warning not to do business with them explaining our situation in more in detail. Any help would be appreciated.. thanks in advance

Have you ever stuck a 9 volt battery on your tongue?
upndownshop replied to skycat's topic in The Bonfire
My brother did that when he had two front braces on when he was a kid. He did it so much that it melted the glue and screwed up the alignment. They had to start over. Mom was pissed!!!! -
Whats the Longest Road Trip you have ever done?
upndownshop replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
The Ultimate Road Warrior I think. I've touched every state east of the Mississippi River by car except VT, as well as CA, TX, LA, AR, MO as far as I remember. I drove in CA only after flying in from back home, ditto for Hawaii. Well I am sure you will take care of Texas when you come to the SkyFest Boogie in July....Right!!! I know, shameless plug.... sue me , I'm not deaf... -
Whats the Longest Road Trip you have ever done?
upndownshop replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
That would be an awesome achievement! I am somewhere over 500,000 miles driven in my life so far and I've only driven for 22 years, with a couple of significant gaps of no driving in there too. Had a stint driving for Steak-Out (think Domino's Pizza, but with steaks instead), and another time drove an 85 mile roundtrip commute to work for 6 years. Been driving for 23 years this year. I have always been in "traveling" sales so thats how I did it. I only have the upper east coast to hit (maybe 6) and I would have hit all the intercontinental states. Think I will knock those out this year. -

J? You there? You have all of the numbers. How far did we drive? ALOT!!!!!!!!! It was an AWESOME trip and I am so glad I got to do it with him. I would have killed anyone else if I had to be confined to that truck for that long. If that's not a test for the future, I don't know what is!! It looks like we passed, right Honey? -
Contacts or glasses to jump?
upndownshop replied to virginflyer3's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I dont use either, but tight goggles is a good idea. I have seen numerous times where the contacts pop out during ff and for the newer jumpers it resulted in BAD landings. The over the glasses goggles seem to work for people. Again I dont use either, (yet) so I have not experienced the hassles. good luck -
yup, and come March and April they will go up again.

Dont forget about Sherry Schrimsher -
Yup, very well aware of the data base and good friends with Keith who helped him start it. Take a look at the awards given out from 2001 to present, awarded in the third weekend in July. You will notice that the locations, Dallas, and Houston are the DZ's they were done at. Those were done during SkyFest. The last jump Bill made was on an SCR that I co-organized during SkyFest at SDD. Boy you got to love that man. Very funny jump, and a great party afterwards. It was a great honor to do an SCR with him.

Saw one yeaterday. It was on a new chevy pick up with handicap tags, it said: I'm not going bald I'm getting head! Thought that was pretty good!

Let me be more positive on that for you. Lots of room when climbing to alti, especially when someone wants to assist in getting extra alti, plenty of room to prepare. Not a bad climb rate. The leaning part is normal. Fayard works very hard on keeping those together, they fly a ton every year, I have many of jumps in his AC all over the country, no worries. I vote for black jack too!

Wayne, I have done you wrong. That s actually a Parafoil. I have always gotten those two confused. Thanks to nitrochute (charles) in correcting my mistake. He had some interesting info in his PM (hope you dont mind me posting it) but here it is: ________________________________________________ is a parafoil that snyder built circa 1969.the para plane has no flares or stabilizers on the bottom surface.that was what snyders patent was based on.the para plane came about because snyder and p.f.i.(para flite inc)had a license to build a small number of parafoils from jalbert and nickelidies(sp).something to the tune of about 50 or so.snyder tried to get a license to build more but jalbert et al said no.so snyder sat down and figured out that the flares on a foil were not necesary, and moved the reinforcement up onto the rib and attached the lines to the bottom surface.then he patented it. i worked for snyder and was also present during much of his ram air developement and drop testing.snyder actually tested the direct line attachment rite under everyones nose, thinking that no one would notice the difference, and he was rite to a point. i was just starting photography at the time, borrowing a jumping freinds nikon and taking tons of pictures. i took a picture of snyders first jump on his para plane protoype.nobody noticed anything till we were looking at the pictures the next weekend. snder almost had a fit because i had taken the pictures and was afraid that they would fall into the wrong hands.he bought all the prints and the negatives from me just to keep this thing secret till his patent paperwork was filed.if i can find it i actually have a copy of the very first para plane owners manual.as i supplied the cover photo.if i acn locate it i will scan it in here. _______________________________________________-- When I can scan my fathers pic's I will post them too. And Charles can tell us Plane or Foil

Well If I may. I returned to the sport in 2000 with only 169 jumps. By 2002 I had 1100. I guess I picked up after my father because my jumps were 4 way video and jumping with the newbies. For some reason I started logging the successful SCR's that I had organized. Well as of 2005 I had 86 logged. I then thought, SkyFest 05 is this year I wonder if I can hit 100 during the event. July came around and I still only had 86, thinking that will be a tough one to get during the event, (especially since I am one of the two founders) while organizing the boogie. Well believe it or not I walked away with a total of 102 SCR's that I organized since I started, since then I am up to 105. I have not counted SCR's that I didnt organize so I really dont know how many I have actually been a part of. As I mailed all the forms from SkyFest to Bill Newell, I mentioned that I hit my goal. He replied that I may not have the most but he bets I am one of a very few who actually tracked them and he doubts that anyone will beat it. He is thinking of making a 50 or 100 patch for those individuals. He also will attend SkyFest 06 this year and wants to hand out patches on the spot liked they did back in the days. July 2006 marks 40 years since Bob Boquor's drowning while filming a movie (which he saved the footage from what I heard). we will be celebrating his life during SF 06 this year and all the other pioneers that are with us or not. Would it be great to say that I have the most? You bet! But my goal is to keep people jumping and SCR's and newbies I believe are the way to do it. One jumper at a time. Ok I lied I want 200 SCR's Sorry so long

Here is the second jump I made on it. My rigger used a different slider this time around and I think it had smaller grommets. The other pic is from the first jump, we did a 3 way so we had the round, square and triangle. I have some more pics but not scanned yet, these are from when the canopy was new. Ill try to get them in, may be a while, moving right now, scanner packed away. I love the old gear, just picked up a strato star to add to my "jumped" list. My brother thinks I'm nuts, my mother says " there are enough pepole around to take me to the hospital when I break my leg. Thanks mom

Yup you busted me!
