I'm going to guess that he means the student can spend 'student loan' money on anything. I don't entirely disagree with that concept, but I think the resources needed for oversight on that sort of thing would outweigh any gains by a significant amount.

Wow Professor, I thought I was pedantic. I think there are places that refer to the extra wheel & tire assembly stored in (or on) the car for emergency purposes as a 'spare wheel', but I've always heard it called a 'spare tire'. And while it's 'more correct' to call it "changing the wheel", most people I know say something like "I got a flat and had to change the tire". Last, but not least, the very fast and well trained people on NASCAR pit crews that are kneeling down with the impact guns swapping wheel & tire assemblies over are called... Tire Changers.

There have been 'more than a few' questions from people looking to buy a used container, asking 'will it fit me?' Or 'How can I tell if this will fit me or not?' The more or less standard answer is 'go to the manufacturer's website, find the harness measuring instructions, have your measurements taken, get the serial number of the prospective rig and send both to the manufacturer. They can tell you.' I recently found out that Velocity offers a lookup on their website. I have no clue how long this has been available. Put the serial number of the rig in the box and it gives you the order form (minus any personal info). It lets you see the measurements the harness was made to, what options it was ordered with, and colors. I think it's a pretty cool thing and thought I'd throw it out here. https://www.velocityrigs.com/support/?fbclid=IwAR2QlHkmQnNoRB61pFTqbqAg-iUF6CSWRmuSds1NZP2ML4iORjK0rn-aV5g Note: I tried to copy the page with my rig on it, but it won't work. If anyone is interested in seeing how it works, or what my rig looks like, enter '8507' for the serial number and let it know you're not a robot.

What do you mean by "in line with what's been reported"? If you mean the stories in the New York Post (the ones that claim the most 'wrongdoing'), then you might want to take a deeper look. If you mean what's been reported by the NYT, WaPo & WSJ, then I don't see a 'problem'. If his dad wasn't President, nobody would care. It's also true that if his dad wasn't a prominent politician, he wouldn't have had the opportunities he's had, but that's a different topic.

Ya gotta realize that we're talking about the guy who claimed he 'could shoot someone on 5th Avenue and get away with it." Based on how his toadies, sycophants & minions act, he was right.

A few things: DOM 2001 would be an original Sabre (not really a "Sabre 1", but often called that). Sabre2 came out a few years later. The original did have a well deserved reputation for hard openings. Packing tricks and modified sliders can do a lot to tame them. Original Sabre is a rectangular canopy. Sabre2 is slightly tapered. It's a great canopy, if you can tame the openings (or if it opens good by itself, from what I remember, it was often a problem with specific canopies - some opened hard, some opened nice). Since it's out of production, and has a 'less than stellar' reputation, they aren't worth a whole lot. But some folks really like them. Wingsuiters liked them quite a bit for a while. I hadn't heard about the steering lines, but since one is 'square' and the other is tapered, I can see it.

"If they can do this to Trump, they can do it to ANYONE!!!!" No shit. If they can get enough evidence that a crime was committed and there's proof that can be obtained with a search, then put together an affidavit that convinces a judge to sign off on a search warrant, then yes. They can do this to anyone... Who commits a crime.

Oh, evolution as a theory and a process is pretty solid. What's happened with people is that any real 'evolutionary pressure' has been removed. For maybe 100 years, we (as a society as a whole) have made survival of everyone a priority and a goal (minus a few genocides here & there). So 'survival of the fittest' or 'survival of the strongest' or 'survival of the most adaptable' (all three of which are important in evolution) hasn't been an issue. So the unfit, the weak and those unwilling or unable to adapt to change have survived things that historically would have removed them from the gene pool (personally, I survived pneumonia as a kid and appendicitis - both of which would likely have killed me 150 or 200 years ago). Then, along comes Covid. We find out it attacks the weak. It attacks the stupid. It attacks those unwilling to do the barest minimum to prevent the spread of it. And well over a million people have died of it in the US alone. Not entirely sure how I feel about that, but for the most part, after seeing the types of idiots who refuse to believe it's real, I'm not all that sad.

Lots do. There's no proof it works that way either, and I'd hazard a guess that there's a study of that in the works. Proof that it DOESN'T work is not the easiest thing in the world to establish. The fact that it took this long to establish that it's useless as a 'cure' is a good indicator of that. And the 'true believers' have gone to great lengths to get it to sick people, especially in the hospital. Sneaking it in, begging, harassing, even threatening the health care folks, filing lawsuits to get it administered (a couple succeeded, but the dumbasses died). The "Herman Cain Awards" are full of fools who took it both before and after onset of symptoms.

May’s Global Temperature coldest in 9 years

Obesity, diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure), certain types of heart disease, certain types of cancer, along with a host of other things I can't think of at the moment. Very serious, very life threatening, but invisible or easy to ignore until it's too late. Which makes them an excellent analogy for AGW. -
So the same group that screams "BLUE LIVES MATTER", and that "Antifa wants to defund the police and make them DISAPPEAR!!!!!!" now is threatening FBI agents and wants to disband the FBI (don't forget all the assaults and attacks on the Capitol Police on Jan 6). Hmmm. Fun fact: Multiple responsible people are calling on the Republican 'leadership' do denounce the threats to FBI agents by the Trump stooges. So far, they haven't bothered. In fact, they have made their OWN threats. So much for the 'party of law and order'.

Downsizing for first rig
wolfriverjoe replied to Robbybiscuit's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not really. You'll be right about 1:1, which is a good place for you to be. From what I've read, the S3 is a decent canopy for lower experienced jumpers when lightly loaded. Personally I went from a 288 Manta student canopy to a 190 Triathlon loaded at 1:1. No issues, other than re-learning to flare (zp Tri flares a LOT better than a ragged out Manta). -
So what is worse than having Lauren Boebert as your House rep?

That can be cured with antibiotics, at least most of the time. -
Yeah, the vernacular gets a bit odd, and the legal definitions are often at odds with the technical definitions. For example, from a 'weapons' standpoint, a "machine gun" is a large, crew served weapon. Usually mounted on a bipod or tripod (or vehicle mounted), often placed in a prepared, well protected position (called a 'machine gun nest'). From a 'legal' standpoint, a 'machine gun' is any full-automatic weapon, one that fires more than one shot when the trigger is pulled. From a 'weapons' standpoint, a machine gun, squad automatic weapon, battle rifle, assault rifle, sub-machine gun & machine pistol are all different. But because they are capable of full auto fire, from a 'legal' standpoint, they are all considered 'machine guns'.

Good point. Ya gotta wonder how the idiots would have spun it if he had won. What about the 'Americans left behind'? What about 'all the military equipment left to the Taliban?'
-
Don't forget that the surrender to the Taliban was orchestrated by Trump. He cut out the Afghan government and told the Taliban we'd be leaving the country to them. He then set it up so that Biden would be in office when it happened, and made it so it would be virtually impossible for Biden to reverse the process. So all the Trumpette fools blame Biden for it.

The hijackers, the actual people who flew the planes into the buildings, were mostly Saudi nationals. So was Osama Bin Laden. How much other Saudis were involved has not been officially published, AFAIK. There's been lots of speculation, but no hard info. Don't forget that the bombing of the WTC in 93 had Saudi ties too.

Gotta love how the fake 'electors' are also targets of the investigation. -
The 2nd one. Politicians, con men and snake oil salesmen have always lied. The degree to which the gullible idiots have believed Trump and his bullshit is frightening. The number of people who think the election was 'stolen' is truly frightening. The number who think the search was 'illegal', that it was not a crime for him to posses those documents, who think that the current administration is 'out to get him', the idiocy is really scary. Along the same lines, the people who believe that Covid is a 'hoax', that the vaccines are killing people, that hospitals are lying about the deaths, all that shit is equally disturbing. On a slightly positive note, the Covid deniers are dying from their stupidity. Admittedly, so are some of the Trumpettes, but nowhere near enough of them.
