  1. A lot of the answers fit me to a certain degree, but I haven't seen my real answer yet. Because I can fly. Admittedly it's more of a "plummet" than actual flying, but it sure feels like flying. Just like in my dreams. Just like so many have dreamed for so long. It feels like really flying so much more than piloting the plane. 2. Thanks for posting that! Sweet!!
  3. We got a visit last month. I wasn't there for it, but from what I heard, the dude was very pleasant, and was more interested in the plane than anything else. No consequences came from the visit. That's the first visit we have had in a long time. And the FAA hit "Lawnchair Larry" with a pretty stiff fine. You don't need to have one of their certificates to feel their wrath. 5. Thanks. I thought "biannual" didn't look right. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Considering that most of the weapons used by the drug cartels are purchased from the Mexican Army, yeah. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  7. Well then, by all means - go get a tent, use it, bringit back, and then get your money back for it.
  8. Disney itself wouldn't, but whoever they contracted the night work to could (and frequently does). Disney follows the rules pretty much to the letter of the law. They'll go right to the edge, but won't pass it. Any time they break it, it's almost always unintentional. They do, however, contract out a LOT of the behind the scenes night work. Those companies are supposed to play by the rules and Disney checks on them, but they're all notorious for cutting corners. More so in Florida than Anaheim due to unions and labor law differences between the states. This is also the same type of deal you frequently hear about with Walmart. The day shift employees are almost always being handled within the strict letter of the law, but the night contractors cut corners. Yes, I thought of WalMart's (subcontracted) night cleaning crew being illegals after I posted that. (I'm glad I left the "could be wrong" out) But there's also a lot of hate for American based multi-national companies. Disney isn't a bunch of saints, but they aren't as bad as some would like you to think. WalMart is, but not Disney "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. I kinda doubt it. Minimum Wage in Florida is $7.25/hr. They may or may not be unionized, but with the economy/labor situation we have, I don't think they are going to make much more than minimum. I think Disney is too big to be hiring illegals under the table (I could be wrong on that). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. Yep. When I was with my (now) ex-wife, we had 2 cats and the dog in my avatar. We ended up putting the cat box where the dog couldn't get to because of his desire to have the "Kitty Pate" (don't know how to do the "`" accent) It didn't really bother me that much, but I was never willing to let the dog lick me, and she let him lick her hands. 11. Well, that's one thing, but if he tries banning RPGs, I'm taking my rage to the streets. You will look very lonely and foolish if you do Indeed; without my trusty RPG I'd feel quite naked. Dude! How did you get the BATF to let you have a "destructive device" of that nature. I can't even get my sheriff to sign a form 4 because he "doesn't like those kind of guns". 12. Yes. Sometimes and it depends. One type of system - Single handle. One handle does both tasks of cutting away and pulling the main pin. This is an older system and is really only seen on older student gear. Another type - Reserve Static Line. There is a lanyard attached to the main riser that pulls the reserve ripcord when the main is cut away. Very common and required for students (sort of - the instructor can allow a student cleared for self-supervision in freefall to jump without one). Yet another type - Main Assist Reserve Deployment (MARD). This uses the departing main to extract and deploy the reserve (The RSL just opens the container, the MARD opens the container and pulls everything out). This is a fairly new system. The most common one is called a Skyhook. Lastly - The Automatic Activation Device. This is a LAST CHANCE device that will should open your reserve (by cutting through the reserve closing loop) if you are still in freefall at a very low altitude (~750ft). Required for students, and for all jumpers at various DZs and in various countries. Now, (to the OP, not councilman24 - I know you know your stuff) as a new jumper, how much of this detail do you actually understand? And which system will you have? Wait for it... Make sure you ask your instructors and understand what you will be using and how it works. Note: All the "required" stuff is valid for the US. 13. Do you think China really has that much control over the DPRK and Kim Jong IL? (Honest question, I don't know the answer) I know they think he's had a stroke, so he may not be completely rational. The DPRK is also dealing with the horrible fallout of the revaluation of the currency they tried a little while ago. He may have decided that provoking a war is a better option than letting the economy disintegrate and face a genuine revolt. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. No. Fuck No. What is the justification they are using? What possible reason could they have for testing the entire student body? And you might want to tell the guy that you had the argument with that driving isn't a constitutional right. It has been held as a privilige. So if he feels that blowing in a tube before driving would violate his rights, you can tell him that there is no right to drive a car. 15. Yes. Pilots are required to take a biannual flight review (every two years). It reviews the regs, emergency procedures and important skills that pilots might not practice on a regular basis if they are just flying around. Stalls and recovery, slow flight, short and soft field takeoffs and landings among other stuff. I think it would be a good thing for TIs too. Maybe not each year, but every other year, just like airplane pilots is something to consider. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 16. The NOTAM doesn't have to be a precise area. You should know within a couple miles or so for your ballon jump, right? That's close enough. It's intended to warn pilots in the area that there will be parachute operations going on. NOTAM stands for NOtice To AirMen. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. Not necessarily. As has been said, doing it right has certain benefits. Doing it wrong negates some or all of those benefits. Whether or not those benefits are worth the cost and effort of doing it for you is a question best answered by an expert. I looked into doing it as a rigger and made the decision that it wasn't worth it for me. YMMV
  18. why would she exempt the Senate, given that she's in the House? A favor to Difi? I thought she was a senator? Hmmm... I would think that the Speaker of the House would be a member of the House of Representatives, not a member of the Senate. You're right. My bad. Just did a search on Nancy. Well good for her. As long as she practices what she preaches.... I'm thinking she had to exempt the Senate to get it to pass. She could shame/persuade/bargain/extort the Dems in the House to get it passed, but doesn't have enough power in the Senate because she isn't part of it. 20. He doesn't? Of course not. When you have floppy moobs, shaving can be dicey. Oh - who'd have thunk it? Well, if anybody would know something like that, it would be Billy. Wouldn't it?? Nooo - I think Twardo might have more "first hand" knowledge, but I can't confirm that. I wasn't thinking first hand knowledge, I was thinking more along the lines of general knowledge of "Things That Make Me Gag" Floppy, hairy moobs definitely go in that category "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. Yes, there's a list of aircraft approved for operation with the door removed. It's in FAA AC 105-2c Page 17. Again, I don't know if there are any Light Sports that are approved (either by the manufacturer and noted in the POH or by the FAA in AC105) If you say there are, I believe you. They also list what kind of jumps require approval (forms 7711-2 to apply and 7711-1 that approves) and what you don't need approval for. (It's item 15 on page 10 that covers demo jumps). There are some "Off DZ" jumps that don't require a 7711. I've always heard those jumps (Legal with proper permissions and NOTAMs) called "Bandit Jumps". 23. I don't know what (if any) light sport planes can be operated with the door or canopy opened. And I don't think any are on the "list" of planes approved to be operated with the door removed. I know you can get out of some light planes (172, 182 ect.) with normal opening doors, but it isn't easy. And I'm going to disagree with the second part of that. If I jump into my own backyard (with proper NOTAMS and permissions), it's a bandit jump. Legal, but not a demo. I consider a demo to be in front of a crowd, and needing all the FAA approvals that come with it. And after some of the crap that went on around here last summer, apparently our new FAA guy considers anything more than one person a "crowd", requiring all the "Demo" approvals. 24. Here is the "Free Dictionary" definition of Detention. And that of Arrest Basically detention means you can't leave. Arrest means you are going with them. And usually involves being booked into a jail (or similar facility). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
