1. 0; 2; 0 Wind Dummy H&P and a 3way tracking attempt. Had a friend hit the runway really hard. If we hadn't had a lot of rain the past few days, he wouldn't have walked away. 2. They haven't been dying at a rate of 1000 per day the entire time. They are reaching the age where they are far more likely to die, and are dying at a faster rate. They will soon be gone. 3. They do jobs that others won't because employers are enabled to take advantage of them due to their status - they aren't likely to turn them in for violating workplace regulations. If those workers weren't around to be taken advantage of by employers, then prices would certainly rise. To say that our economy "needs" them is to say that you are OK with a permanent underclass that has no legal recourse for the sake of lower prices. I don't think that is a good moral position, and it isn't a "need" of our economy. The "need" I was referring to was the economic impossibility of simply throwing out 12 million plus illegal immigrants. Slaughterhouses was just the easiest job I could think of. There are lots of others. I haven't seen any older white people (men or women) driving lawnmowers yet, they aren't up on roofs nailing shingles either. Low pay, low skill jobs are historically the entry-level jobs for the immigrants to the country. Giving them some sort of legal status would empower them to force the employers to follow the rules. One of the most democratic ideals of this country has been clearly demonstrated by our immigrants (including my great-great-grandparents on both sides). They worked long hours at hard, low pay jobs in order to give their children a chance at a better life. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. Thanks for the very clear and detailed reply. That's one of the things that is so cool about this site (and the sport). So many different people and backgrounds and experiences. And a willingness to share them
5. Not a welder or a metalworker. How does one shrink aluminum (or any metal for that matter)? And what would it be done for? My first thought would be for locking an outer piece around an inner piece. Is it something like that, or something totally different? 6. You are wrong if you think the use of the word random prevents your words from being a personal attack. It certainly is fair to consider it casting stones, but the stones are facts, whether cast by a random or specific butthole. Much better than a random butthole spreading lies. You are quite sensitive to opposing positions in a discussion. I was not simply casting stones (as if you don't), I was telling the truth of the liberal viewpoint. They say the what is needed instead to address the concerns of the proponents of the Arizona law is comprehensive reform. That reform, if liberals have their way, includes amnesty. Just telling it like it really is. Conservatives in the past have proposed and enacted amnesty, but now it is just libs. By giving them amnesty, the politicians can look to all those votes they're going to get for getting the illegals a 'free ride' into this country. I look at that as a total feather-legged way out of a problem and a slap in the face to those people who chose to follow the legal path to citizenship status rather than stealing it or have it just given to them. Chuck The problem is that any plan to allow the illegals to stay legally is called "amnesty". Several of these plans included heavy fines, back taxes and being put to the back of the line for citizenship. But since those opposed to the plans called it "amnesty", the plans were scuttled. All the time the illegals were still here, often still working. While I don't approve of illegal immigrants claiming a "right" to stay here, the reality of the situation is that our economy needs them. They do jobs that others won't. Beef and poultry slaughterhouses are the easiest example. Finding a way to allow those here and working to stay legally, and finding a way to allow a certain number into the country legally is vital. It would allow us to truly secure our borders, and create a situation where seperating the sheep from the goats (or coyotes if you prefer) wouldn't be a problem because the only ones crossing illegaly would be the real criminals. 8. Only if one side of you is 5 foot and the other is 5 foot, five inches. Size doesn't cause instability, lack of symmetry does. Have you gotten any video? A lot of people have a hard time with body awareness (including me). Seeing how your legs, arms, hips and shoulders are on video may reveal where your problem lies. Tunnel time would help too, if you can get to one. Good luck, and it's good to hear you aren't willing to give up.
9. To be honest, not really. More luck than skill. Just like the underwear bomber, it looks like a "fizzle". I'll bet that it was activated, but didn't detonate. Very few bombs emit smoke before going "kaboom". Gas cans and propane tanks are pretty amateruish (any idea how easy it is to make ANFO?). 10. I think that's more of an instructor issue than a radio issue. We have a couple real good ones at my DZ (small DZ, static line) They will take a minute and talk to the student to get a "feel" for how much supervision they are going to need. Some need more guidance than others. They also remove the radio guidance slowly, and have the student do at least one jump with no ground commands, but with a radio, in case it's needed. They will also teach quite a lot about canopy flight. They have the student flare and then let up to understand how it surges. They have them hold longer and longer turns to show how turns increase speed. They have them do simulated patterns at higher altitudes to show how the wind affects ground track. Having the student doing the manuvers while the instructor is telling them (over the radio) what to do and is explaining what is happening and why enhances instruction. Although not every student is capable of learning all of that on the first jump, most are capable of learning at least some of it. 11. AggieDave is correct about the truth and right not mattering. But if he was entering your lane, it was his job to do so smoothly. You aren't required to let him in. You were driving along, minding your own business when he encroached on your lane and hit you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. I'm not going to cut & paste & jigsaw your post. I hate that. Birth Cert - His campaign produced it. Then the "Birthers" insisted that it wasn't a "Birth Certificate" but a "Certificate of Live Birth". Then it got stupid. There's a thread on it in here somewhere. My sense of proportion is what it is. Different from others, not necessarily more (or less) correct than others. This kind of propaganda is often spread by the extremes of both ends of the spectrum. Similar stuff was spread about Bush. There were even those who claimed Reagan was the Anti-Christ because his names each had 6 letters in them. I don't follow it all that closely. That doesn't mean I know nothing about it. "Valid criticism" is, IMO, that directed at his current actions and policies. Things that affect us now. The bailouts, foreign policies, the economy, healthcare. Some of the things in that list, his stance on gun control in particular, are bothersome to me. But worrying about what his priest said distracts from that. Somewhat similar to the criticisms of Kennedy being Catholic and that he would follow the pope's directives. Was he a lawyer for ACORN? So what. They need lawyers and it's a good thing for a young, liberal attorney to have on his resume. I don't particularly like them either, but they did do some good things. To repeat - I didn't vote for him and I won't in 2012. I don't particularly like him. But this kind of crap prevents honest debate between different idealogical points of view, and turns it into a PeeWee Herman screamfest. Which is pretty much where politics have desceded to of late. Or maybe they've been there the entire time and I was just too naive to see it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. (emphasis mine) Reading 105.3 Definitions, a reserve parachute is defined as - (emphasis mine) An intentional cutaway can hardly be called a failure of the main parachute. So when you chop the intentionally chopped main, the next parachute you deploy is clearly used intentionally, unless you are contemplating suicide by skydive. But the definition of a reserve parachute is that you only use in the case of a failure of whatever you were using before it. So, in the case of an intentionally chopped main parachute, there must be another parachute, that is not your reserve parachute, that you intended to use. The reserve can only be used in the event of a failure of that parachute. Count them up. That makes 3 total. The one you intended to chop. The one you intended to use after the chop. And the reserve that you didn't actually intend to use. I eagerly await your response! (Honest!) -paul Perhaps this is splitting hairs, but... To look at it a slightly different way - Wouldn't an open canopy be considered an aircraft? And the skydiver under it the "pilot in command"? It's been discussed that way in regard to airport access and the legality of landing on runways. That would make an intentional cutaway from a properly functioning canopy a "parachute operation from an aircraft", wouldn't it? Which would require two parachutes (main and reserve) to do so legally. Or I could be overthinking it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 15. I have it in one, but not the others. It's nice, but not essential. It's a bit more comfortable on hot days. I don't think I'd pay extra for it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
16. Me too. Or is it me neither? Whatever it is I didn't see a pay rate raise. And I get paid by the mile. With the economy in the toilet, I was down about 20% in miles last year. Which is a 20% pay cut. Oh, well. At least I still have a job, unlike millions of others. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. By tacit segregation do you mean self-segregation? As in the different groups generally keep to themselves as much as posssible, particularly during off-duty hours. And yes, it was the executive order that accomplished it, over the protests of many that it would destroy the fabric of the military, that blacks wouldn't be capable of doing certain jobs ect., ect., ect. Kinda like the arguments against gays serving openly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
18. I was thinking more along the lines of Monty Python and the "Flying Sheep" bit. "They don't so much fly as plummet." Kinda like us "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
19. I love South Park. Apparently this was aired last week, but I saw it for the first time last night. The entire episode was a revisit of old stuff. Cartman's dad, Mitch Conner (who was Jennifer Lopez), Ginger kids, Barbra Striesand, SuperBestFriends (Moses is my favorite, he has such great ideas), Tom Cruise (he has Seaman on his back), Raisins and the Old Country Kitchen Buffet, so much else. And the best one, Scott Tannerman as the head Ginger kid bringing Cartman to the "Chili Con Carnival". I think that South Park fans should do a "Terence and Philip" to the Muslims if they do anything to Matt and Trey. Fans across the country arriving at mosques all over. Waiting until a quiet, reverent moment... And blowing ass as loudly and offensively as possible. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. I don't like spam emails like those either, but which one of those do you consider a lie? The "birth certificate" one for sure. Most of the others are little bullshit blown way out of proportion. The flag lapel pin, indoctinating kindergarteners in homosexuality and bowing to the King of Saudi are the top three in that area. I can't say for certain about the others, mainly because I don't follow the "tin-foil-hat" crowd and their garbage all that closely. I didn't vote for him, and I don't like a lot of what he does or wants to do, but this crap undermines valid criticism. His supporters just point to that kind of junk and lump it with the valid objections to distract people from the real issues. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. Well, a few years ago there was a CrimeStoppers ad on the Green Bay stations asking for information about vandalism at a Psychic Reading place. You'd think that for something that important they'd be able to figure it out themselves... Or maybe the vandals were pissed at them for being frauds. 22. LaFayette Park has traditionally been a protest place. Closing it was pretty unusual. And both sides have a long history of limiting protesters on road events. Both sides have often offered "legitimate" protest areas well away from the actual events. Bit of a difference between the two, IMO And Gawain:
The military isn't a great area to implement social experiments.
Experiments like racial desgregation? The success the military had gave the civil rights activists a solid database showing that blacks could do well in positions they were being denied in civilan life. 24. Ok, but if they found life on other planets - Would Santa go there and deliver presents? He's obviously capable of travelling at extreme speeds, and being in many places nearly simultaneously. He could simply add the other planets to his itinerary, he could even do it on a different day of the year. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
