Skymamma's right. There are things you can do to speed up. I usually wear about 10# (5 kilos or so) so that I don't have to work as hard, but with proper suit selection and good technique I can stay with most jumpers without the weights. I got a lot of really useful advice from a very small AFF-I. She explained a bit and spent a few minutes on the floor demonstrating the stuff she used to get her fall rate where it needed to be with minimal weights. Those techniques alllowed me to go from ~105 to the higher 1-teens with a couple jumps to figure out how to make them work. Find a really light coach or (prefferably)AFF-I who's willing to work with you. Not so that you can stay with them, but so they can show you how to go faster. Most schools allow any who wish to join the Math, Chess or Debate clubs to do so. The less capable may not be picked to compete in tournaments, but they can still be members of the club. And have the opportunity to learn and improve. Many schools offer Junior Varsity or intramural teams for those who couldn't make the Varsity teams. Again, it give all the opportunity to participate, learn and improve. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I don't know about your pilots, but I pay attention to how heavy the jumpers are. We often limit the plane to 3 (C-182) if they are heavy (depending on weather conditions too). I know that bigger planes would be a harder situation to manage. And no, we don't make the 3 split the cost of the 4th ticket. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." What to do during single jumps
wolfriverjoe replied to DarkDesigner's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Rule #1 (especially when learning stuff) .THERE ARE NO STUPID QUESTIONS. I disagree. The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. (which is really just a different way of saying the same thing) If you don't know, ask. We all walked into this sport not knowing a lot of things (including the vocabulary). Some of us forget that from time to time. I try not to forget it. Edit to add: Oh yeah, if you start on your belly, go forward to headdown for a split second, then transition forward into a sit for just a split second then transition forward back to your belly, then you've learned how to free fly (or do a front loop) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Yep. There's usually a page of those kind of things every month in the NRA magazine. They call it "Armed Citizen". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Rape Gang Complains About Police Raid on Local HQ

Ok, good point. After the fact in the first case becomes during the offense for subsequent cases (whether or not it's the same offender). I'd still like to see the entire church heirarchy indicted and tried. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Why do they think they have to give everything a fancy title? It is called "Teenager" Because if you give it a fancy title, then it becomes a "disease" and you then treat it with medication (note that I say "treat", not cure). It's a lot easier to give a kid a pill than to put the time and effort into working with them and teaching them things like responibility for one's actions and consequences and other things like that. Seems pretty simple. They can set standards for who gets money. Yep. The school didn't say that they couldn't meet, just that they woudn't have official recognition. And for a group that openly discriminates against those they feel engage in "unrepentant sexual conduct" and those who refuse to endorse a "statement of faith", I have no problem with that lack of recognition. As much as the lookout guy, the getaway driver, the guy who provides the safe house and the guy who launders the stolen money are all part of the robbery gang. You betcha. More of an "accessory after the fact" isn't it? Participating in the coverup, permitting the accused to remain priests, refusing to share the information with the appropriate authorities. I'd still like to see all the co-conspirators indicted and tried. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Or a pair of nail clippers. I especially like how you could carry the case of Sprite and the cup to drink it out of and nobody would know that you had both a Glock and an AR on you. Ooh, I bet it's an old B-4 rig. As in "B-4 the gear was any good." My first rig was one of those with a paracommander in it.

Look at my profile. Full name. Enough info to find the rest if you look just a bit. I post on here because it is fun and interesting. Probably the same as everyone else. I had a book of short stories about "Unsolved Crimes" back in elementary school. It had the Cooper case in it. I found this thread and I enjoy chasing down the mystery, even though I don't believe it will ever be truly solved. And no it is not I that "controls all" its Sangrio. You can try to confront him and choose the posters, but beware of his fork. And the only lies I am responsible for are when I put a number other that "0" for my first entry in the "weekend numbers" threads. You know the difference between a fairy tale and a skydiving story don't you? A fairy tale begins: Once upon a time... A skydiving story begins: No shit, there I was, thought I was gonna die... Sure, go ahead and use passages from a poorly transcribed and intentionally misinterpreted book as proof of its own accuracy. Or go and study the original ancient texts. And find out how poorly transcribed and misinterpreted (intentionally or otherwise) the modern stuff really is. Not to mention how selectively editied - to the point of supressing whole versions of the story as heritcal Kinda like the professor in the OP did "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Did they tell you why the raindrops hurt so bad in freefall? It's 'cause you're hitting the pointy end of the drop. Damned newbies! We warn them and warn them, trying to make them understand that we've been there and had to learn the lesson the hard way and are trying to prevent them from having a similar, painful lesson. And DO THEY LISTEN?? Me - 0,0,0 But I spent a couple hours digging through the back room at the DZ and found some amazing stuff. VOR distance, radial calculator?
wolfriverjoe replied to SansSuit's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks ! Just a tad more complicated that what I had imagined but it does do the job. How about a quick block of instruction on how to figure out this conversion? Does this have to do with the red dashed lines that run diagonally through the sectional? The point I'm looking at lies directly between one that reads "3°W" and "4°W" if that helps. Yes. If you look on the "legend" part, it tells you that those are the lines of variation. You want to add west variation to the true heading. There's an explanation HERE. Go down the page to just below the picture of the sectional chart to skip over the prelimiary crap about a cross country flight. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." You don't get it do you? Quade is not in charge. He simply the referee in this forum (History and Trivia) and a couple others. His (unpaid) job is to make sure the rules of the board are followed. Nothing more or less. If you don't follow the rules, he gives you a vacation. If you think others aren't following the rules, PM your complaints and he may give them a vacation. There's nothing in the rules that require truth. He does this because he cares about the board overall. I know he has gotten a lot of pressure to shut this thread down completely. I'm glad it is still going (the final decision may or may not have been his). There is a lot of stuff in this thread that probably wouldn't stay up if it was in other threads. There's also a lot of people who only post in this thread and don't jump. The one in charge is Sangrio. It's his website. He choses who is a mod. He's the one who could "turn the thread over" to you. You might PM him about that. But I wouldn't recommend it. Oh yeah, FWIW - The Cooper articles were in Parachutist magazine (published by USPA) in Nov 03 and the three part in May, June and July of 10. All by the same person, mostly good facts, a few minor errors. All stuff that has been covered here. I haven't been able to scan the old one in yet. I've tried a couple different times. My acess to scanners is kind of limited. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

You probably have the ad-blocking software on your computer. I dont see the ads in IE8. I've given a few people info on how to block them... Nobody seems to want to spend 5 mins to fix the problems. Some of us leave the ads up on purpose. I even click through on them sometimes. It generates revenue for the site and keeps it going. I can see the ads again, and the double click is gone (again). Ok. I'm getting it too. IE (don't ask me which one). I can hear the computer click a couple extra times and have to click the back button that many times to go back. It's handy when I have a lot of catching up to do and don't want to go to the forum and then to the 2nd or 3rd page. Interestingly, when it is doing it (it did it last night, not this morning, and it's doing it again now) the ad areas all say "Internet Explorer cannot display the page" or "The webpage cannot be found". I don't know what (if anything) this means, but maybe some of the experts can find this useful. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." If you thought the Bandit was uncomfortable, try an R6 or a GSX-R. Although comfort is a very subjective thing. What's comfortable to me might be horrible to you and vice versa. Try sitting on (and riding if possible)a bunch of different ones to find what you like best. Lowering usually isn't all that hard. Some suspensions can simply be adjusted to a lower position, others require changing out the link or the shock/spring unit. Usually only a couple hundred bucks. The bike forums will have a lot on doing stuff like that. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Don't forget comfort. A lot of the SuperSport bikes (Yami R's, Honda CBR's, Suzuki GSK-R's ect) sacrafice comfort for handling. The less aggressive ones (like the Bandit) are a lot more comfortable. And I think you will be shocked by the insurance costs. I don't know specifics in Britain, but for me here in Wisconsin, the costs for a SS bike were almost double the lesser bikes. I have a Katana 600. A bit heavier than a SS, not as fast (but good enough for me) and a hell of a lot cheaper; purchase price, insurance and maintenance. Bandits are quite nice too, one was second on my list last year. There's a bunch of forums out there for the different bike types. Look around and see what's out there. Or send it through the washing machine. Really. Not by me, but he called and asked what the best way to dry it out was and if they thought it would still work afterwards and they said "Send it back". The new one arrived a week or so later.
