Israeli troops attack ship carrying aid to Gaza killing 16
wolfriverjoe replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
That depends. If there were ships headed to North Korea by a group that claimed to be a charity group, but was actually suspected of being a front for arms smugglers, I think the US Navy might well stop and board and search those ships. If we had boarded 2 other ships without incident, and were attacked by the crew of the third, the sailors may well use standard force escalation procedures to defend themselves. I'm not sure that would be wrong. This was a clear provocation by the blocade runners. They poked the bear with the stick, and got all whiney when the bear bit them. You're entitled to your opinion, but my opinion and experiences differ. In 02 when I started, all three DZs (Wolf River, Green Bay and Skydive Adventures) in northeast Wi used radios for students. All three are small 182 DZs. There are junk radios at Wolf River in the back room with "in service" dates of 1993, which is when that DZ opened. I don't know if your experience of no radio use or my experience of widespread radio use is the anomaly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." is there an easy way to get a siphon started?

FlyingJ If you get a "J-Card" you get a penny per gallon of fuel purchased. Free for the asking, 50 Gallons gets you a free shower and a free cup of coffee too. Other truckstops have similar loyalty programs but J's are the most RV friendly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Carbon trading market != AGW No, it's just one way to attempt to reduce the output of "greenhouse gases". One that is very suceptible to fraud, influence peddling and mismanagement. People using their influence to exaggerate the effects of GW, and then taking advantage of the Cap&Trade system doesn't surprise me. But it doesn't make AGW a scam, this is just people taking advantage of the situation for personal gain. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Stupid people equipped with advanced technology often has ridiculously tragic outcomes. I googled "Blindly followed GPS" and this site:What's The Harm was near the top. I had heard of some of these, and others that aren't listed. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I haven't been keeping up with this thread the way I used to, but I have to chime in here. BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There's no way she could have been able to pick out a person standing on the lowered rear stairs from 10k. I spend way too much time looking up at a Cessna 182 at 10,000 feet. With years of practice, under optimum conditions, I can tell when the door is opened (hinged at the top, the inside of the door is black, the bottom of the wing is white). The inexperienced spectators need to be guided to the plane (I bring them under the opened hangar door and use it as a reference) and they often refuse to believe that I can see that the door is opened. At night, in cloudy weather, with a darkened cabin... With little or no experience looking for opened doors on planes. Yeah, riiiiiight. Ummm... Maybe the manufacturers? PD Icarus (Para Concepts at SDC) Aerodyne Demoing a 190 until you are ready to downsize to a 170 isn't really how it works. That's kinda like buying a tent from WalMart, using it for a boogie and then returning it for a refund. The details are in the links (except for Aerodyne's - You'll see it when you go to the site) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I agree, but at least there's a hope of getting a pic of Nataly in full leather

It depends. My (limited and very general) understanding is that they are best for low speed and tip-overs. They mount to the frame, so if they are too sturdy, a hard impact can bend the frame. So they are designed to snap off in a really hard impact. For specific info on the R6, you might ask These Guys. And I asked Nataly for a pic of her in her gear back when she got the bike. It's a different style of race. Much more top speed than corners on the oval tracks (although Indy cars do road tracks too). Momentum management and drafting play a big part. Also far far different cars. Much less sophisticated. It wasn't too many years ago that they had pushrod operated valvetrains in the motors. Also a lot cheaper to run. Cheaper even than NASCAR. Although F1 is very exciting from a technical standpoint (both cars and drivers), from a spectator standpoint it isn't a lot of fun to watch. Very little passing, mainly just "follow the leader". Whoever gets through the first turn in the lead without crashing will win the race unless he makes a mistake. I prefer to watch the "lesser" classes of racing. Far more fun to watch because of the action (not crashes, the drivers duelling it out). The local track is a lot of fun to go to on Thursday nights. The drivers aren't all that skilled, the cars aren't all that great, but the action is a blast. Guys driving with a lot of passion. First look seems to tell me they got the engineering reasonably correct. It looks like the support bars are "mutually supporting" and if one failed the others would take the load. I can't see the car tilting any further than it did either. The bumper is a reasonably solid structure, and it's highly unlikely that the front wheels would leave the ground with the weight of the motor/transaxle on them. (Addressing a previous post of yours, Quade) And who's to say they didn't load it up with test weights (sandbags or something) and run a few tests? That would take away from the "Redneckness" and implied stupidity of the clip, and would be edited out (if they even bothered to video that part) I agree that the video equipment suggests a much higher degree of sophistication than is portrayed. I have a suspicion that the rest of the project is the same. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I've seen several sliders where the stitching came undone at the "collapse line" hole. That left a big enough hole for the tab to go back in with little difficulty. I've fixed one, it was a 5 min overstitch job. I spent more time putting in the correct color thread than I did actually sewing it. That's where they came from, but they are pretty widely used these days. They really aren't much different than the "crash bars" on some of the older bikes (functionally anyway). An investment of a hundred bucks or so can save a lot more then that in just a simple tip-over. It's amazing how much the plastic fairings on sportbikes can cost. As good as it is, that was very close to killing two drivers. I can't even imagine being the car below. Very true, but I think (guess?) that that would have been a fatal crash not too long ago. And I don't think the technology will ever exist that would have prevented it from being fatal if the top car had been a foot or so lower. There have been a number of near-misses like this over the years. In one, the wheel of the car on top left skid marks on the lower drivers helmet. I think it was Michael Andretti, but I couldn't find it in a quick search. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Wow! The crash technology has improved so much in recent times. Lots of very expensive junk there. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Frame Sliders are your friend. I'm guessing that the plastic got a bit scuffed/cracked. Frame Sliders are designed to hit the ground before the rest of the bike and prevent that kind of damage. They are especially effective at low speed stuff and tip-overs. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." So how'd the second one go?? We put out two loads of S/L students yesterday (only 2 students each load because of weather/runway conditions and because they weren't little dudes) Flying the plane with "younger" jumpers is always fun. The combination of fear, anticipation, excitement, nervousness, apprehension, joy and all the other stuff you don't get with the more experienced jumpers is really cool

Which wingsuit IS actually best for flight time?
wolfriverjoe replied to Jaymyster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes. Just like canopies, you will do far better with one appropriate for your current skill level, pushing it to it's limits than using one so far above your skills that you can't even approach it's limits. And just like canopies, if you take good care of it it will retain a good bit of it's value when you sell it to upgrade. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." So I'm NOT the only one! Nope! The worst part was that I felt the wet spot, but didn't worry about it because it didn't hurt... Until later "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Well, there was a death in Minnesota last week that seems to be caused by jet fuel. http://www.startribune.com/local/94824399.html And I personally learned the hard way not to overfill a Zippo lighter.
