And you got some serious answers. You are being treated as a troll because these questions you are asking have the very obvious answer: NO!!! NOBODY agrees with you. Those rules are in place for a reason. The phrase "written in blood" is commonly used. Many, if not most DZs in the US are USPA group members. All of them should require USPA membership. Very few (like none) of the rest will ignore currency requirements or camera reccy's for a student, especially after a long layoff. Currency is king in this sport. Trying to ignore that fact can cause serious problems. Serious like in dead. And read the SIM a little further. I agree that the B-license rule for cameras is dumb. USPA recommends a C License. You can nit-pick that it's a recommendation, not a rule. But that is due to the politics of the USPA board. There are a lot of arguments that it should be a rule. There's an entire forum on here dedicated to Photog and Video. Read the two "stickies" at the top. Especially the one about small format camera incidents. How would you define a "Free State" professor? And how would you ensure it's security? And what, exactly is it being secured against? Foreign enemies? Or domestic enemies? And are those only despots and dictators who would take over the government? Or does "security" include protection from thugs, brigands and highwaymen? I would not call the chaos that was Los Angeles during the riots in 92, or the aftermath of Katrina in '05 "secure" or "a free state." (you can use several definitions of "State" there) And in both cases, those in power, who were supposed to protect the public, either absconded their duties or actually posed a direct threat to the public. Which left securement to... The people themselves. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

So? If the parents of the kids don't like it, they can leave. Or leave the kids behind. My mom (75 years old) loves the DZ. She loves to come out and watch. She sits at the picnic table and enjoys almost everything about it. She doesn't really like some of the language. BUT she knows full well that she isn't everyones mom, and can't dictate how other people behave. So she puts up with it. Just out of curiosity, do you talk to your tandem students like that? Or around the families/kids of the tandem student spectators? (only being a little bit smartass) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Sizing and wingloading question
wolfriverjoe replied to Cinders's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The Sabre2 can open nicely. I had a couple hard openings and was told to make sure that the sides of the slider are pulled well out. The front and back of the slider is nowhere near as important as the sides. Since I started doing that, the openings are much better. Has the line trim been checked? Out of trim can do funky things to the openings. Is the slider the correct size? It's not a real common issue, but sometimes the wrong slider is put on. Alternatively, you could choose a canopy that is known for opening softly. The Spectre comes to mind, though there are others. Canopy size and wingloading shouldn't affect openings (although I could be way off base on this). I don't know how the harness fit would or even could affect the opening (but I could be way off on that too). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." How did the kids get the gun? Without knowing that, it's impossible to say if background checks could have prevented anything. And it is illegal for juveniles to purchase any gun. Possession can be legal, under certain circumstances, but purchase isn't. And if they were killing someone because "they were bored," then I'm going to guess that they didn't legally aquire the gun. But I don't know. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Vector container with a Spectre 190 Main
wolfriverjoe replied to Keithor's topic in Gear and Rigging
Making a V2 truly freefly friendly would cost as much or more than buying something that is already appropriate. It would be Master Rigger work, because it is considered "Modification." If you want something that you can freefly safely, find something else. BUT... You are just short of your A. You have a lot to learn. A V2 in reasonably good shape should be affordable and appropriate for the type of jumping that you should be concentrating on now. By the time you are in a position to move forward to freeflying, you will be looking for a better rig anyway. If I were you, I'd have my local rigger look it over. If it fits you, is in reasonably good shape and is reasonably priced, then it may well be a good first rig for you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I disagree with this. I don't think they had "best intentions" at all. They knew that the sheep were scared and would agree to intrusions on their civil liberties that would not have been allowed otherwise. They further took advantage of that fear and started the war with Iraq. Obama and the anti-gun crowd tried to do the exact same thing this past spring. Take advantage of the sheep being afraid of the scary black rifles and get them banned. Fortunately, it didn't work. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Nope. I'm not there and I don't do that anymore. I just came across the story and thought I'd share it. It's been mentioned on a lot of morning radio this past week. I listen to a lot of Rock stations all over, and most have some sort of "morning pair" of reasonably funny DJs. Some local, some syndicated. I heard one (joke) suggestion that the cops were brainstorming how to reach the "target audience" and thought: "What would be the best way to get a message to a cop? Put it on a dount box!" And, voila! An idea is born. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Eugene Skydivers- Airport Access Fight
wolfriverjoe replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The one thing that is a shame is that the taxpayers will foot the bill. I wish there was a way that the idiots who were responsible for causing the issue could be somehow held responsible for the outcome (financially). But that won't happen. It's good to see it turn out this way. I know that it doesn't always. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Sells the romance, not the sex. Women book the vast majority of the flights. Find a niche and fill it, you will find success.

The Pentecostal Minister should be involved in such matters. ***I've got friends in England that lost their way on their journey through life, they contracted AIDS, some didn't make it, some became born again Christians and some are still hanging on for dear life. Most Christians who are "Living a Christ Like manner" are generally happier, more involved in helping others, etc... I'm 100% behind you on that. There are sects out there that condemn blood transfusions, eating certain foods, big time condemn homosexuality, and they shouldn't be doing that. These matters should be dealt with in love, not by some sort of radical, "Fire and brimstone" ministers. There's no room on the planet for these types. They give people a really unreversable bad taste of religion they can't make it back from. They're helping no one. I don't know you, but I would offer in love and friendship that you please repent for this really unsavory remark. I'm not (Although I could) going to quote scripture that would reveal the most unsavory types of punishment that WILL be administered if you do not tell God your sorry. I will pray for you myself. Theres only one sin that's UNFORGIVEABLE, and that's blasphemy, there is no recompense for this. please, for your own sake, give this matter some thought. God loves you, he always has, and always will. Take Care, Be Safe. My Very Best- Richard Did you read the story? Pentecostal Ministers telling their "flock" to stop taking their medication, and to take "holy water" instead. That sort of "involvement" is exactly what he is talking about. That isn't "Living a Christ-Like Life", that's using prayer as a wish-fulfillment. Either that or the Pastor actually wants his members with HIV to die. Many of that type believe that HIV/AIDS is a "punishment from God" And you've posted that line about God punishing the Blasphemers. IIRC, you asked DanG to recant his comments out of fear of God punishing him. Can you offer up any examples of God punishing Blasphemers? Any at all? I keep hearing "true believers" claim that "God will punish the evildoers", but I have yet to see it. Many of the worst of the "evildoers" (all sorts of evil, not just blasphemy) have lived long, vicious, evil lives and died of natural causes. Why? Shouldn't God have cut their lives short? No it won't. It would if the argument were to eventually be settled, but that is not going to happen. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

You need to pull the toggles down fast enough that they are all the way down before you hit the ground. That is not a smartass answer. There's a post that mentions stopping a car. It's not too bad of an analogy. If you start your flare a little early, you pull them down slower. If you start it a little late you pull down faster. But if you flare too slowly, because you started too high, then you tend to "mush out" the flare, that's not what you want, If you flare too fast, then you can pop up, or not have the canopy react fast enough. Also, the faster you flare, the more you pendulum out in front of it. This can be used to your advantage, if you time it so that you touch down just as you start to swing back, you will have the smoothest, slowest landing. But that takes practice. All of this takes practice. And you've practiced it twice. Make sure you have a good PLF, it's a good skill to have in your toolbox. And don't hesitate to use it, even after you've learned to land properly. Far better to have to wash grassstains out than to get hurt. Given the number of "Bad Cop" threads over in SC at the moment, I thought I'd share this pleasant little story: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/cops-to-distribute-bags-of-chips-at-hempfest-really/Content?oid=17500264 For those that don't wish to follow the link or read the story, the main points are: Seattle is having "Hempfest" this weekend. Due to Initiative 502, pot is now legal, with certain restrictions. To help people understand those restrictions, cops in Seattle are passing out fliers of FAQs about the new law... On bags of Doritos. Really. Before the usual suspects get their panties in a bunch, it's funded by a private foundation, not taxpayer dollars. I thought about putting this in SC, but it's far too fun to be there. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Meh, it happens. It takes a lot for a thread to get locked down or for the mods to step in and start deleting posts (outside of incidents). Even the blatant trolls have to get way out of hand, and they get warned a time or two before they disappear. Hang around long enough, and you learn who to read carefully and who to ignore in the topical forums. There actually is a large amount of good advice given out on here. And there's a pretty solid group of people who are the ones giving it on a regular basis. DaveLepka, 'Twardo, Pops, Ron, ChuckAkers, Billvon, NWFlyer are the first ones that come to mind, there are a lot of others. The "Signal to Noise Ratio" seems to be a bit higher than normal at the moment. It tends to go up and down. Take the good, ignore the bad. Post nicely, don't ask for advice, then ignore it, then ask for more advice (especially if it's regarding a choice that went against advice you asked for a week ago). Edit to add: You want maturity?!? From this bunch of yahoos!?! "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Pfft,. They took the Roswell remains (both mechanical and biological) to Hangar 18 at Wright-Patt. Doesn't anybody know this anymore? Groom Lake (Area 51) has been the "Top Secret Flight Test Area" for decades. U-2, SR-71, F-117, B-2, Aurora. All those and more have been flight tested there. Win7, IE. Shows up on the thread display only. Not the Main menu, not the forum menus, not the "Reply" page. Main bumpers are going to be the bigger ones (I think). It's pretty straightforward to unscrew the links and put the bumpers on, but it's best to have your rigger do it (and show you how). There's a couple things that are easy to mess up. And you will want to do a full line check if you unhook and rehook the lines. From the sound of it, I'm going to guess you don't know how to do that (If you did, you wouldn't be asking). I don't know about your local situation, but this is something that I'd do for nothing (a "Thanks" is always appreciated) to make sure you got it right. It's a quick and simple replacement, but there are a couple things that are easy to screw up (to repeat), and a mistake can have huge consequences (think about what might happen if your link fails at, say, 100 feet). Slider Bumper. Your local rigger can make them. Sort of. You are going to have metal on metal contact without them, the slider grommets hitting the links. It can cause burrs on the links or the grommets, which can damage your lines. It can also damage the lines by smashing the lines where they attach to the links between the links and the grommets. It's not a big deal to have the bumper replaced, or you could have the metal links replaced with soft links. Talk to your rigger or loft. He won't be answering. Now we can get back to welcoming nygirl. Yay! Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome Nygirl, thanks for being instrumental in having the kid gone (you didn't do anything but show up, but I'll still give you credit). Don't worry a whole lot about the views at the DZ. You will be so focused on learning and doing that you really won't have time to appreciate them. Save that for after you are licensed. Right now, focus on learning. Perris, Elsinore or San Diego are good places with a solid base of fun jumpers to get to know for the future. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I'm not sure, maybe AggieDave could confirm or deny, but I think that the equipment they use for dash-cams doesn't have erase capability. At least not selectively and not in the car. It would be basic "chain of evidence" type of procedure to not allow the officer the ability to erase parts of the recordings that would exonerate the accused or incriminate the officer. Thanks for great advise! The "local shop" that was advised to me last week is hour and a half away from me that is first. Second, it is not a shop, it is a drop zone, I called them, they did not have G3 helmets. Before you flame newbie try and get your facts straight. To the rest of the guys who really tried to help - THANK YOU! I believe that is why forum exist - to ask questions and help each other out. I called shooting star this morning and ordered XL. Well, there were several posts in that thread that specifically said to try a helmet on before you buy one. It was specifically stated that different brands of helmets will fit differently shaped heads better than others. That Cookie has strange sizes (you need to order at least one, sometimes two and occasionally three sizes over) is widely known. You couldn't wait a week to try on a few at the DZ? It gets a little tiresome when advice is asked for, then ignored when given, then more advice is asked for. But, hey, as with everything else, YMMV.
