  1. Couple thoughts - Paypal can be for their protection in a couple different ways. I've never used it, so I could be wrong on some of this. They come to get it, get a few miles down the road and the sawdust stops working so they now hear how bad the motor is. Bike is now clearly "not as represented" and they can try to get their money back (not sure how that works). You don't really have a bike to sell. You want them to come to you with cash in hand so you can rob them (not unknown to have happen). They don't want the hassle or worry of carrying that much cash on them at all (not unreasonable). They don't want to go to the trouble of getting that much cash in the first place. Banks often look at you funny if you ask for large quantities ("funny" as in "we need to notify the authorities"). And yes, them "young'uns" do that sort of thing that way a lot. If you go PayPal (and it's not totally unreasonable), make sure you don't let them log on to show you that it's paid. There are some notable scams involving fake sites like that. In theory, you could go to the DMV and stop the title transfer if the payment turns out to be a scam (I know people that did that with fake checks). It's a huge hassle, and you still have to get the actual vehicle back. In the case I know of, police were notified, reports were filed, charges were pressed (theft by fraud and "uttering" - knowingly writing a bad check). 2. Maybe, maybe not. If he had managed to get the gun away from one of them, it could have gotten really ugly. How many would have been hit if he had emptied out a service weapon on a crowded street? (guessing it was a Glock or similar in 40 cal - probably 12-15 shots) It reads like they tried to hit him with a stun gun of some sort and it didn't work (for whatever reason). If he was going for one of the cop's guns and was reasonably close to getting it, then they may well have been justified. Not enough info in the story to really judge. 3. You should be fine. The plane does most of the work, gravity does the rest. Flexibility is probably the most important thing, but (not too surprisingly) the bigger you are, the less flexibility you need. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. For the record, I do not look like that in leathers... ... ...My hair is longer!!! I don't believe you. And I won't until I get some proof. Like some pics. 6. 3? Only 3? They're really cute too. That last pic is just awesome. My family had up to 8 when I was growing up. My younger sister currently has 5 of her own (and 2 Pit Bulls) and also brings in more from the shelter as "foster cats" on a regular basis. Those are both in reasonably big houses. A neighbor of mine lives in a 2 BR duplex (half of it) and has 6 the last I heard. 2 of her own, her sister's (sister moved in with the cat, couldn't take it with when she moved) ex-boyfriend's 2 cats (same deal as sister) and one more that I never got the full story on. Three is just a start. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  7. You're ignoring the very basic fact that the person who already has 100 camera jumps at 200 jumps has decided that they are "better" than everyone else, and that "recommendations" don't need to be followed. That overall attitude towards safety is far, far more dangerous than having the camera on their head. Do you think they wrote those recommendations for the fun of it? Do you think that they had no reason, that the "200" is just an arbitrary number? Have you ever heard the phrase "these rules are written in blood"? 9. You aren't the only one. I heard on the radio the other day (NPR?) someone asked him about the reaction to the records he made. His version of Proud Mary is not the best. He said something like: Critics, who cares what they say? They don't buy anything. (not in quotes because I'm not sure I've got it right) And there's apparently a billboard in Atlanta that has a picture of Spock doing the Vulcan salute and the words "He Did" on it. There's a few pics on FB. Can't find it anywhere else. FB Linky "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. I'm not doubting that you've seen it or that it's there, but it's not in all of them. I've got a bunch of hours in a couple different Sundowners (C-23) and a Sport (B-19), which is a 2 seat, lower powered version. They're all descendants of the "Muskrat" (Musketeer). None of them had any sort of lock like you are describing. When I was instructing (and when I was a student), "popping the door" on takeoff was a standard exercise. Either abort the takeoff, or go around the pattern once. The door pops open a couple of inches and it gets loud and a little windy but that's all. 11. I was thinking about Point Break. They had the coolest "super low opening" sequence. You actually see the canopy opening just before they hit the water. How they pulled it off is pretty cool too. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  13. He made it to 83, that's pretty long. And he "prospered" fairly well too. The ultimate "Straight Man" in Spock too. The perfect counter to Kirk's outlandish emotionalism. 14. Not me, but a friend. Double femur (one compound) and pelvis. Swoop gone bad. Rods in each leg, a couple screws in his pelvis. Spent the summer in a wheelchair (it happened in May) and jumped again on the one year anniversary. That sort of injury does have long term consequences. He has pain in his hips on and off. He was having a lot of pain, so he went to the doc. He came back and said the doc told him he "had a screw loose." I looked at him and said "I know that, did he say why your hip hurts?" Also, Douglas Spotted Eagle had a similar injury, legs and hips. He returned to the sky too. It was pretty well documented on here. 15. The (kinda) funny part about that is that we have had a pretty cooperative Congress over the last few decades. Actual bi-partisanship. Cooperation with those "across the aisle." I've heard it attributed to the fact that so many of the Representatives and Senators were veterans of WW II. They understood the concept that sometimes you have to work with people you don't like or agree with to reach a common goal. And that the goal is sometimes worth compromising on specifics. As those guys die off, we go back to what we always used to have. Research some of the crap that happened in Congress. Especially in the lead-up to the Civil War. Look up Preston and Brooks for a good example of how "cordial" they could be. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 16. This isn't exactly new, but when a group called the "Interdisciplinary Research Center on Family Violence and Violence Against Women" tried to analyze the effects of porn, they couldn't find any men in their twenties who hadn't watched at least some. Go figure. Article: http://gawker.com/5420211/scientist-tries-to-find-man-who-has-never-watched-porn-cant "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. Well, one of Bush's early promises (very early first term) was that he was going to cooperate with Congressional Democrats. Article from just after the Supreme Court decided that Bush won: http://articles.baltimoresun.com/2000-12-14/news/0012140323_1_dick-cheney-congressional-republicans-george-w That didn't last long. After his second term, he decided that a 2% victory was a mandate, and he was going to "spend that political capital" and do whatever he wanted. The more things change, the more they stay the same. 18. Brussels Sprouts here too. But I still don't like the "store bought" ones. Too bitter. I grow my own in my garden. They don't get very big, not much bigger than a marble. Store ones go about golf ball sized. But the ones out of my garden aren't bitter at all. Just "green" tasting & crunchy. Delicious either raw or steamed. Oddly enough, the broccoli I buy in the store is less bitter than what I grow myself. Go figure. But mine isn't bitter enough that I don't like it. 19. In the particular time, circumstances and established objectives of the first Gulf War, Cheney's words were well within the parameters of the political objectives. Much different set of circumstances after 2001. That's very true. Saddam Hussein hadn't invaded and occupied a neighbor. He wasn't connected to Al Queda. He didn't have any WMD, nor was he making them. Of course, Cheney wanted to generate a lot of business for his contractor buddies, and wanted the oil for his oil buddies. So they made up a bunch of nasty stories about Hussein to justify the same invasion that he had said was a bad idea 7 years earlier. He claimed that it would be "sunshine and roses" after the invasion this time, where he had said it would be chaos, anarchy and ungovernable unrest if we had invaded the first time. He knew the American bloodlust was at a high point and exploited it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. What, you are expecting a politician to keep a consistent viewpoint? Please. He's going to say whatever he thinks the audience he is speaking to at that particular moment wants to hear. And the audience he is speaking to right now is the one that will vote in the Repub primaries. Which is going to be the absolute worst of the ODS crowd. 21. Quite possibly an accurate assessment, which is to say this is also a decidedly sad indictment of the state of education. Naah. A lot of people on here are clearly well educated. That doesn't necessarily make them smart. Or mature. And I think lack of maturity drives more of the idiocy on here than anything else. 22. So, to you, someone who believes in God and follows the teaching of Jesus but isn't born again is a hardcore heathen? Seems so, doesn't it. That "Born Again" thing is the part that matters. But actually following the teachings of that Jesus guy? Not necessary at all. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. I agree that they should represent the people. And should tailor their votes on issues to accurately represent the will of the people that elected them. I agree with DanG that having a government database has too much potential for abuse (Big Brother and all that). I don't completely agree that "lobbyists" are automatically bad. It's one way that the people communicate their will to the representatives. There are a couple groups that I belong to that "lobby the government on my behalf." That's part of what I pay my membership dues for. I'm not trying to be snarky, but aren't you in the process of building a group that will try to get your local politicians to keep the big corporations from putting your local water supply at risk for contamination? Isn't that a "lobbying group"? And last, the "will of the people" is subject to the rules of the constitution. There are any number of situations, past and present where the "will of the majority of the people" was to deny the minority a variety of civil rights. That's pretty much a direct violation of the principles the country was founded on. And shouldn't happen. The specific incident I'm referring to in my post was Wallace's "stand in the door" to try and keep racial segregation in place. A political position that did accurately represent the will of a majority of the people in that state at that time, but wrongly denied black people civil rights that they should have had. 24. Like what? Honest question. I see a lot of people bitching about a lot of things, but I don't see any real unrest. Very little "marching in the streets" and what little there is, is pretty peaceful. Even Ferguson. Compare the damage (which was definitely there) and deaths and injuries (which were pretty much nonexistent) with real civil unrest and protests (think Iran, Ukraine, Egypt, ect). There were dozens of deaths during those protests. Most were by the government, which incensed the protesters and increased the "revolutionary fervor." And the protests were directed at the governments themselves, not at the police policies. Even during the worst of the Ferguson protests, or the ones in New York, or all the ones across the country in support of Ferguson and New York, I didn't hear calls for anything other than accountability by the police and for justice for the victims. I don't recall hearing any calls for the overall government to be taken down (local, state or federal government). But I could be wrong. Got any good indicators that we're heading for a real revolution? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 25. They are concentrated in the lower-48. I'm not aware of any of them being located in AK. I thought Turtle was in Anchorage. Shhhhh!!!!!! That trip was supposed to be secret. The fact that he was taking a can of lighter fluid, matches and a police/fire scanner was too. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
