Every weekend is not possible to jump in the Northeast for 6 months a year. Unfortunately. True, but the season is longer than 6 months. Even in Wisconsin, I've jumped March through November. Canadien born born Ted Cruz declares his intention to be President
wolfriverjoe replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
I disagree with the notion that a third party vote is a wasted vote. Sure, in the current climate, a third party candidate is unlikely to win. On the other hand, the more votes third parties get, the more attention to the third party issues get from the main parties. Anyway, where I live, a vote for anyone but the Republican is usually a "wasted" vote. ^This. I have always voted in the major elections, and always will. There have been a number of times when I knew perfectly well that the candidate I was voting for wasn't going to be the winner. Whether I was supporting the loser, or letting the winner know that he had opposition, or in the case of "third party" votes, telling both major parties that I didn't like their candidates. That doesn't matter. I'm expressing my opinion and my preference. I've often voted for the "fringe party" candidates. Green, Libertarian, Socialist, Constitution, whatever. Usually those votes are for races where I don't like either of the candidates, or races that are so lopsided that my vote (for or against the winner) won't matter. If those parties get more votes, then they get more notice. Then they might become more viable. I was sick enough of the 'lesser of two evils' voting, and was unable to decide which one was the "lesser evil" in 2012 and voted Libertarian for president. It was a protest vote, and a futile gesture. But I cast my vote. Which I think is important. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." So let me get this straight - We face a national security crisis due to terrorists, Russia & China. We face a financial crisis due to the ballooning national debt. We face a constitutional crisis because the President is issuing exwc orders for stuff he can't get through Congress. How is this any different from, say, the past thirty years? Oh yeah. Big time. I don't think he's a moron. He's a long way from stupid. But he has shown that he is in the pocket of his corporate owners. He's not a "servant of the people." He does what those who bought and paid for him dictate. And he has, for the last two terms, brought up and forced legislation through very quickly. Legislation that was either never brought up during the campaign, or that he had said he wouldn't support. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Yes, he's declaring his candidacy. Or he's going to in the next couple of days. I'll bet he gets huge numbers at first. And is way out in front, getting huge amounts of publicity. For a week or so. But not for long. He's too much of a wingnut to last. C'mon. Think about it. He's got enough "Jon Stewart" material for any opponent to sink him without too much trouble. His calling Ebola "The biggest threat to the country" last fall is the first one that comes to mind. There are a lot of others. He won't be any different that Rick Perry, Michelle Bachman, or the rest of the "Parade of Idiots" that went up against Romney in the 2012 campaign. I think Walker is one of the better bets at the moment. Not a "fringe" candidate, no real skeletons in the closet, hard-core conservative enough (pro-life, anti-union, pro-gun), in the pocket of the big business lobbies. I really don't like him, and wouldn't vote for him, but he has real potential. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." What is this "proof"? Considering the background and history of some of the BOD members (current and former), inflated jump numbers really isn't that big of a deal. Sorry I bet there is more to this. More like what? And all you have to do is google his name and it pops right up. First hit: http://postonpolitics.blog.palmbeachpost.com/2015/03/18/employees-group-florida-environmental-manager-was-punished-for-uttering-climate-change/ The order for a medical eval before being able to return to work is probably the most disturbing to me. I guess that all depends on where you put "center." Most people put it where they are (or at least close). I'd bet you would put yourself "a little right of center", just like a couple others on here. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." A quality one by a known manufacturer who has a reputation for providing what they promise. There's lots of good folks out there making good suits. There are a handful of people out there making crap suits. There are a few others who are very good at making promises. But totally unable to make the suits that they promise. That is why proper planning is required; Chase her in the direction where your buddies are lying in wait with a large net. Ummm... Nope. Having accomplices and co-conspirators is a bad idea. Besides, they'd want to share. And for the record - I'm not implying that I would commit any crime such as kidnapping or any assault of any kind. ANY kind? ANY kind. Assault is a crime. Seriously, the back and forth banter on here is all in fun for me. There's a fine line between "silly, flirtatious, smart-assed comments" and "creepy and/or stalking comments." I don't want to accidentally end up on the wrong side of that line Besides, actions between consenting adults isn't assault. It may be very, very similar. But it's not the same. Missouri to execute old man missing part of his brain

Which argument are you making? That there is danger in having a gun present in a home? (True) Or that guns are used against the homeowner and in crimes far more than they are used for defense? (False) Those are two very different arguments. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -

Ahhh... So combine "It seemed like a good idea at the time" with "the weather was worse than I was willing to put up with." Fair enough. Well, it's probably right on the edge. I think the reason that they can get away with it is the "released on bail" part. According to the story, they offered to allow him to go free on $50k bail, but he doesn't even have $5 to put up. So, in theory, he could be freed. But in reality, he's sitting for a long, long time. Just out of curiosity: Why did you enter? I can see making the decision to not run that far before you pay the fee, fill out the forms, show up for the start, all that stuff. But to go through the time and effort to start the thing, and then decide that it's not worth it is a little odd. Not criticizing, just curious. Edit to add: "Because it seemed like a good idea at the time" is a perfectly valid response. I've done a bunch of fairly stupid things in my life, and when asked "Why did you do that?", that was the only response that was accurate and honest. Poor student or not, it sounds to me like the instructor did the bottom end entirely contrary to the IRM and contributed to the student's two-out. I don't know. I'm not an instructor and have only read parts of the IRM. I won't argue with it. He wasn't a very good instructor, IMO. Notice that no names are mentioned. I don't know. The instruction wasn't as good as it perhaps could have been. Actual discussion of things like "hard decks" was not too common. I wasn't there at the time, but here is the story I was able to put together from talking with several people who were there: It was a later freefall jump in the S/L progression. He had been cleared for "solo supervision in freefall," so he could do solos. On this one, he went out with an instructor (not an AFF-I) and they did a 2 way. He wasn't watching his altimeter, even though the instructor kept pointing at his own and tapping it. They blew through planned breakoff (4500) and the instructor started pointing at the student (pull signal). The student was so into the jump, he just smiled and pointed back. The instructor kept pointing, and then did a "practice pull" sort of thing to try and get the message across, but it didn't make any difference. At 2500, the instructor simply waved "Bye-bye" and pulled. He said the student just laughed as he watched the instructor deploy and "get pulled up" (not really, but you know what I mean). The instructor was watching the student continue to fall, and started hoping that he wouldn't pull at all because he was getting very close to AAD altitude. At that time we used FXC 12000s in that particular rig and they had a very wide firing range. The student finally realized he was all alone and getting low, so he pulled. The instructor said that the spring loaded main pilot chute came out within a second of the reserve pilot chute. Two out. They opened together, and almost immediately went into a Front/Back downplane. The student didn't really understand what was going on, because he reached forward and grabbed the risers of the canopy in front and tried to steer it. Someone said he looked like he was driving a horse-drawn chariot. He was already low to begin with, probably pulled around 1500 ft or so. The downplane happened immediately, and he was coming down really fast. He may have rode it for ten seconds or so. Not all that long. He finally figured out what was happening and pulled his cutaway handle a couple hundred feet above the ground. Apparently just enough time for the reserve to level out and give him a survivable landing. He didn't unstow his brakes, or flare with the rears. He just PLF'd it. Bumps & bruises, but no real injury. He got his ass chewed for ignoring his altimeter, instructor, and just about everything else. The "I'm yelling at you because I just watched you almost die!!" was a pretty effective argument. He had been something of a smart-ass, and didn't always listen. He never came back again. Bolding mine. You might want to revisit what a downplane is, what happens in it and what happens if you try to land it. I didn't witness it, but there was a 2 out that turned into a downplane at my old DZ. Student rig, scared the AAD because he was having so much fun in freefall that he lost altitude awareness until way low. He rode the downplane down to a couple hundred feet before chopping it. Another couple seconds and it would have been really bad. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Well, I used the term "shooter." Gender neutral. I did, however refer to the shooter as "he", but I was taught "old school" grammar, where singular subjects are attached to singular pronouns (can't use "they" with a single shooter) and that the male "he" is used primarily. It can be interchanged with "she", but in the case of gun crimes, the shooter is predominantly male. Whether it's part of the upbringing (men use guns, men use force to solve their problems, men "don't take shit" from the cops) or male vs female "wiring" (testosterone being one of the bigger factors) is a good question. But I'd bet very heavily that the shooter was a guy. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Got any numbers to prove that? Most people that that I associate with that watches news channels googles any of that questionable shit through multiple channels before spreading it. This is what I love about Speaker's Corner. A: Fox doesn't lie, YOU LIE! B: That's not true. A: It's a FACT. I guess you can't handle FACTS! B: Here's a list of fifty lies from FOX. A: Yeah, well . . . uh . . . CNN lies too! Right. And the people that watch CNN know that CNN lies. And know not to believe it. But, unfortunatley, the people that watch Fox believe the lies. Because they trust it. And end up being less informed (and more misinformed) than people that don't watch any news. And of course, the usual suspects will disagree with that study.
