  1. No, I want to discuss the price of freedoms/privileges. Specifically the cost in lives of gun ownership vs. restrictions of gun ownership... I understand that. I understood it the entire time.

    Minions

Well, technically, I would think that the Moderators are the "minions." They take his orders, do his bidding, make things like Boogie Robots. The rest of us are just normal everyday weirdos. 3. Why do we need armor piercing ammo? Ummm..... To pierce armor? Isn't that what any bullet does? Makes holes in things? To decide that a particular cartridge or bullet is "Bad", especially when it isn't any more effective at that task (and actually a whole lot less effective) than a variety of other choices is stupid. Or it's a camouflage technique designed to hide the real motivations behind the ban. I have a real problem with the "Anti" crowd deciding that "This" is bad. And then "That" is bad. ANY "anti" crowd. Dogs, guns, cars, whatever. They look for any way to add restrictions on, and then look for ways to expand those restrictions. Edit to add: Oh yeah, what "assault rifles" did Obama ban by exec order? And which ones were illegal at a federal level before that? There's lots of state restrictions in a variety of states, but most of the federal laws "sunsetted." 4. How you approach a helicopter is very important, and very different from an airplane. The "Spinny Thing" is on the back, not the front. Approach from the front where the pilot can see you. This should be covered during any briefing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. Well, if you want to compare traffic deaths & gun deaths - The US is 4th highest in "Per capita road motor vehicle" deaths. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Those are cute. I wonder how he got the bullets to open up that consistently and precisely. They don't look like they were shot. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  7. You have no idea of that outcome, it's an assumption based on hyperbole. Past is prologue. Interesting comment, Professor. There were North Charleston folks quoted on the news this morning that there have been several police shootings where the suspect was shot in the back. All were declared "justified." None had video. Hmmm. Go figure. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  8. Wow, Any credibility, see ya............... How do you know? Where you there? Is there video? Maybe the cop pulled out his stick and raised it to hit the dead guy. Maybe the cop raised his hand to punch the guy. Maybe he said "If you run fast enough, I won't chase you." Or maybe the guy just decided to take off running (most likely, I will admit). But we don't know. And the only testimony so far comes from the cop that shot an unarmed, fleeing suspect in the back. And then dropped a Taser on him. The credibility gap is with the cop, IMO. And while I agree that the vast majority of the cops in this country are good, hardworking people who put their lives on the line every day, there are "Bad Apples" out there. And more often than not, the good cops know who they are and what they do. And say nothing. Cops hate snitches as bad as the criminals do. Along with IAD, and Justice investigators. Edit to add: Almost forgot - The North Charleston Police Chief announced today that all cops on the force will wear body cameras. Heard it on All Things Considered on NPR. 9. Socialist farmers? You lost me with that one. You do like to eat... don't you? Chuck You are aware of how messed up the farm subsidy program is, right? This is the New York Times. "Liberal Press" to be sure, but respected journalism. Search "Farm subsidy abuse" and you'll find a ton of information. Some from good sources, some from questionable ones. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/07/20/business/richer-farmers-bigger-subsidies.html?_r=0 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. Here's the police version BEFORE the video surfaced: The shooting unfolded after Officer Slager stopped the driver of a Mercedes-Benz with a broken taillight, according to police reports. Mr. Scott ran away, and Officer Slager chased him into a grassy lot that abuts a muffler shop. He fired his Taser, an electronic stun gun, but it did not stop Mr. Scott, according to police reports. Moments after the struggle, Officer Slager reported on his radio: “Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser,” according to police reports. This, no doubt, would be the accepted whitewash had it not been for the video. I think with the recent publicity about unarmed men being shot, this would have undergone greater scrutiny. The "shot in the back" part and the "no subject fingerprints on the taser" would have been difficult to explain (although getting prints off of things like that can be hit or miss). But I tend to agree that the shooting probably would have been found to be "justified" in the end. Kind of explains why the cops have been so quick to tell people "Stop videoing me!!!" and arresting people and confiscating phones & cameras. 11. So marriage is all about families and reproducing? Not about benefits and rights (insurance, health care decisions, and on and on)? And of course, gay people can't reproduce or have families. 12. Well, if the attorney was denying them service because of their religion, then yes - it would be discrimination. If the attorney was denying them service because they are assholes who go around insulting and provoking people, then it wouldn't be. If someone could show that the attorney regularly denied service to religious types, while providing service to provocative, insulting assholes who weren't religious, then any claim of "it's not discrimination" would be questionable. 13. I have a SA2 170, loaded at a bit over 1.1:1. On heading is a rare thing, the "hunting around" is common, sudden turns of up to 90 degrees as it opens are also common. But I've almost never had issues with the end cells. Nor do I have any issues with the slider. Just one data point, but there ya are. 14. Don't forget that this is the same congress that has voted a bunch of time to repeal "Obamacare." How many times have they basically said "I'm going to hold my breath until I get what I want!!!" Typical behavior from a 2 year old. Somewhat amusing. Not so much when it's the so-called "leaders" of our country. I don't think they actually want war, but they also don't want to appear to be willing to appease Iran. I believe it's far, far more posturing to show their voting base that they "won't negotiate with those people." They are either too stupid or too shortsighted to see the reality of the situation. 15. I thought in your lingo adultery was any sex outside marriage? In which case it gets advertised a lot. And don't forget about divorce. According to the Bible, anyone who is married, gets divorced and remarries is committing adultery (and it's on ongoing act, not just a one time thing too). So if someone is getting married, and they have kids from a previous marriage participating in the ceremony, then you can make a pretty good guess that they are committing adultery. And I am unaware of any wedding ceremony that includes pizza as part of the ceremony. The food is usually at the reception. Which is just a big party, dancing and food. The pizza guy wouldn't be participating in the actual ceremony (unless Billvon's description is accurate). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 16. Since when does the pizza guy stand up during the ceremony? I thought he just brought the pizzas in, hit on a couple bridesmaids, took his money and left. I was a pizza guy when I was younger. I wasn't aware "approval" of where I was taking the pizzas was necessary. And one more time (still waiting for an answer on this one): How come they get to pick and choose which "sins" are "bad enough" to discriminate against? If homosexuality is "bad enough" that they won't serve them, how about adultery? They seem perfectly content to give that one a pass, despite it being one of those "commandment" thingies. 17. My sentiments exactly. To me as an avid 'The Daily Show' fan and a South African foreigner, it is not just a comedy show. It is also a very relevant commentary on current affairs in the US. I don't think Trevor has the insight and finger-on-the-pulse necessary to pull it off. He is an average comedian who has been riding the coattails of the late Nelson Mandela and his own bi-racialism to get his laughs. It won't be enough for something like The Daily Show. I do wish him good luck though. Well, one thing to remember is that Noah won't be doing this alone. He will have the (mostly) same group of writers behind him that Stewart did. I would be pretty surprised if Jon Stewart himself didn't keep his hand in the writing/production too. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. Who was John Stewart before The Daily Show? I only recall seeing him *once* before The Daily Show; He was on an episode of "Newsradio", playing the twin brother of Andy Dick. Here is my nomination for Stewart's replacement: http://thedailyshow.cc.com/videos/6c2lph/an-egyptian-satirist-in-america (Jump forward to 0:40) Jon Stewart had The Jon Stewart Show on MTV a few years before the "Daily Show" gig. It was actually pretty good. He had a bunch of pretty decent guests (Alicia Silverstone and Jennifer Tilly were great). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. I personally find that to be a very compelling argument. Me too. But who are the "vocal and violent bullies" in this case? Generally, this was a "difficult" case, because the 'speech' that was suppressed was "Pro-American" and patriotic (supposedly). It was probably more xenophobic and anti-immigrant, but that's not how it was presented by a lot of people. Telling people that they can't express their patriotism when the "furriners" are doing just that sounds Anti-American and "pandering to the special interest groups at the expense of real Americans." Which is how it was presented by a lot of the media/internet. But the reality is that there seemed to have been a group of students that wanted to 'start shit' by shoving their US flag shirts in the face of the people celebrating Cinquo de Mayo. And the principal was worried that it would cause a problem. The concept of "In Loco Parentis" (if I have that right) is that the school acts as parents when the kids are there. And if the principal decided that the people wearing the US flag shirts were doing it to deliberately provoke the others, then saying "knock it off" wasn't really inappropriate. I wasn't there, and I don't know the whole story or the overall situation. But I'd be surprised if there wasn't more to it than was presented by the media. 20. Well, I have 2 questions: The Bible clearly states that a "Man laying with another man" is sinful. But I don't know of anywhere that says a woman laying with another woman is wrong. So while it would seem to be in accordance with this stupid law to refuse service to a gay male couple, I can't see how they could refuse service to a lesbian couple. Second: How is it that these people can pick and choose which "sin groups" to refuse service to. The places that want to refuse wedding services (cakes, flowers, ect) to gay couples seem perfectly fine providing services to divorced people who are remarrying. And divorced people who remarry are, by definition, committing adultery. So if someone wants to discriminate against gays using this law, shouldn't they be required to refuse service to "other sinners"? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. When the people in charge of the church hide the crimes, allow the perpetrators to remain in their positions, shift the perpetrators to other positions that continue to provide them access to victims, and deny that there's any problem; it's hard for me to call it a "pisspoor job of handling it." Its a lot closer to accessory to the crime, both during and after the fact. It's also pretty hard to blame the civil authorities (cops) when the church hid and denied the crimes as effectively as they did. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. Ahem. The person claiming to be shocked was Speaker Boehner, Bibi's best buddy. He's not his best buddy, he's his butt buddy. Don't confuse the two. Bibi was nothing more than a way for Boehner to say "fuck you" to Obama. Edit to add: And Israel has been spying on the US for years. Like 67 of them, more or less. They "acquired" the fissile material for their nukes from the US too. To be "Shocked" by this behavior is the height of arrogance, naivete and stupidity. 24. The big (and I mean huge) problem with that is that the cops have the training to react to a specific threat of an active shooter. But "active shooter" situations are very rare. And the cops don't seem to reserve that sort of militaristic attitude for those rare situations. They almost seem to be looking for reasons to use it in other situations. 25. Yup. Skydive Chicago (Ottawa) and Chicagoland Skydiving Center (Rochelle) are off to the southwest. There's also Skydive Midwest up across the Wisconsin border (about 15 miles into WI). They run some weekdays, but not 7 days a week, IIRC. Beware the cops on I94. I've been to SDC & Midwest. Both are great places. I've never been to CSC but I've heard very good things about it.
