  1. Ummm.. Yes. We are all going to die. Unless science takes some great leaps forward (and it very well may), in 125 years, everyone currently on the planet will be... Dead. As a friend of mine says - Don't take life too seriously. Nobody gets out alive anyway. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 2. For a plane that cruises at 240 mph, that's pretty darned slow. Gives a pretty good idea of how badly beat up the props were/are. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  3. Hmm... Going too fast, so he raised the gear? On final? Riiiiiiight. And the "Flight controller said there were no parts to fix the plane." Riiiiight. Again. The video seems to have been pulled, but it sure looked like he barely avoided stalling it when he tried to climb after the "touch (the prop tips) and go." 4. But opened the reserve container and removed the CYPRES. I have to wonder about that. The units are pretty durable, but the wiring can be damaged by rough handling. 5. Well, Richard Pryor had a bit about this back in the 70s. So yeah, I think it's been going on for a while. Note the part about "Black people go "Yeah, we know!" and white people go "No! I had no idea!" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Really? What realistic chance is there of that actually happening? And how far do you think they'd get? Between the cops, the feds, the National Guard & other armed forces; how far do you think they'd get before they were stopped? An attack by a decent sized group on a hotel (like in Mumbai) or a shopping mall (like in Nairobi) could produce significant casualties. But they'd never get out (like in Mumbai & Nairobi). To think that a large group of Muslim extremists could march across GA like Sherman is ludicrous. Even if (and it's an almost impossible "if") they could get past the cops, feds and army-types, every single "Bubba" or "BillyBob" with a gun would be out gunning for them once the news broke. And there's a lot of those. Not just in Georgia. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  7. Well, rather than: "It's been a long winter layoff, I should take it easy for a few jumps." It turns into: "It's been a long time since I had fun, I gotta bust loose"... Thud. 9. Or they remember the shit that they got away with, often "more luck than skill." They also remember the friends that they lost due to stupid shit. I've been around a few years, I don't remember the recommendations "creeping upwards" at all. It's been 200 jumps/C-license for as long as I can recall (admittedly only about a dozen years). First informally, then formally in the SIM. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  10. Well, again, it's risk assessment. Mals & EPs and various other scenarios are not uncommon in the skydiving environment. How many "jihadists" have presented a real threat here in the US? I'm not talking about "Wannabe Jihadists who talk too much and end up with an FBI informant showing up saying 'I know how to make a bomb'" and get busted. And what level of threat do you think they pose to you in your "retreat" in the mountains? What kind of target do you present? Washington DC, New York, Chicago, LA, even stuff like railroad yards (lots of flammable tank cars), highway interchanges & major bridges (think how much disruption would happen if the 80-94 at the bottom of Chicago or the I80 bridge across the Mississippi got taken out), Disneyland or similar theme parks. Again, I take certain threats seriously. I take others less seriously but still consider them in my planning (both daily and long term). But a jihadist attack on me, or my town really isn't on the list. And your OP with the story from the internet equivalent of the "Weekly World News" has very, very little credibility in my eyes. If you want to discuss terrorism and possible plans and tactics in response to an attack, go right ahead. You are right in thinking that this is the place for it. But if you post links to BS stories about "Scary Muslims Coming to Attack US", then plan on hearing a lot of "You know that isn't true, right?" 11. Hahahaha!!! Yep - pretty much sums it up!!! Gee whats wrong with tha ..... SQUIRREL Damn. I was going to post that. But I got distracted. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  12. No. But taking precautions to protect ourselves against terrorists coming in from Mexico is about as sensible as me taking precautions to protect myself from a hurricane in Wisconsin. After the New York attacks in 2001, my then wife became very fearful of a terrorist attack. I was able to calm her fears somewhat by asking her: "What sort of target are we? We aren't near any "big" targets - political, economic, population, psychological. Even if the terrs were able to get a nuke, nothing that they would target would affect us, except maybe Minneapolis. And why would they target that?" It's a very basic security concept called "Risk Assessment." How serious is the threat? How serious are the consequences? If one or the other is very high, you take precautions. If both are even "medium" you take precautions. But if you look at it realistically, the threat is very low. Again, we've been hearing for years that the "Scary Muslims" are coming. Where are they? The so-called "security measures" taken are far more "security theater" than actual safeguards. And we still haven't seen any real attacks take place. There have been a couple close calls. The "Underwear Bomber" is one. The "Shoe Bomber" is another. Both had "device failures" thwart their plans. Either could have been another successful attack. Both happened on airliners, so they happened despite all the so-called "Security Measures" in place. 13. So how many of those are here illegally? How many trained at "ISIS camps" anywhere? How many are US born (citizens)? How many had actual workable plans? The FBI has gotten pretty good at finding these people. The big bomb in Kansas was a fake, and the person who built it was an informant for the FBI. That's not the first time the "Bomb Builder" was really working for the cops. That tells me that these sorts of "homegrown extremists" have very little technical know-how. Or ability to find the knowledge on the internet. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  14. BS. I'd be more likely to believe the "Weekly World News" stories about the Bat Boy than stories on WMD, Western Journalism or Judicial Watch. Grimmie called it correctly. Click Bait ad sites. Last fall, during the Ebola scare, those sites had some very scary stories. One of them had five people dead in a town in Texas, with more infected. Another had Obama giving a non-existent vaccine to illegal immigrants that would come across the border and somehow infect the entire US population. Somehow, this "magic" vaccine would protect the illegals while leaving them contagious. The simple facts that there was no Ebola in Mexico, there's no vaccine, and any sort of inoculation that would protect a person would also make them non-contagious (if that's a word) didn't seem to matter to those writers. Or their readers, apparently. I live in Wisconsin. Tornadoes are a real threat. I take measures to prepare for them. Hurricanes, not so much. I don't worry about them. Ever since the attacks in 2001, the xenophobic idiots have been screaming "The Scary Muslims are coming, the Scary Muslims are coming!!!!! We need to secure our borders or they will sneak in and blow up EVERYTHING!!!!!" That was almost 14 years ago. The US government decided that having armed soldiers at the border crossing was stupid after less than a year. That act in itself was classic "closing the barn door after the horses have left." I'm still waiting for them. I put the risk of Islamic terrorists sneaking in from Mexico at about the same risk as a hurricane making landfall in Wisconsin. 15. I think that in his "heart of hearts", Ron believes that the "Scary Muslims" are coming for us. So he's looking for these kind of stories to confirm that belief. And the people that make up this crap know perfectly well that there are a lot of people that feel the same way. And make a lot of money off this kind of garbage. 16. "Investigator"? Or "Fiction Writer"? Of course they didn't "Identify further personnel." Those "people" don't exist outside his imagination. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  17. "Ugly" is a very subjective thing. I'm sure that if you posted pics of your feet, some people on here would find them very attractive. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  18. It sounds nice, but who would we replace them with? And what would be the difference. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss. There was a bad 80s movie, The Final Option, about terrorists and the SAS (very loosely based on the takeover of the Iranian Embassy in London). One of the better exchanges between a terrorist and the US SecState goes something like: SecState: You kill all of us, then they come in and kill all of you. What does that accomplish? Terr: Well, at least it rids the world of all of you. SecState: Ah yes. The "Powerseekers." Don't you realize there are many more powerseekers waiting in the wings? And they won't be any different than us? IMDB page "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  19. By that well known liberal bastion, the FBI? And of course, convicted by a jury despite the best legal defense team that PNAC money could buy. I thought one of the funniest things about the whole trial is that the defense tried to portray Libby as "forgetful." That there wasn't any malicious intent, he "just got it wrong." He was Cheney's Chief of Staff, FFS. He wouldn't have that job unless he was very, very good at it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. There are a variety of ways. HERE is one good one. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  21. I guess it's possible, but why hasn't it come out before? I certainly could have missed it, but this is the first I've heard that the cop's Taser was actually taken from him, let alone used on him. His radio call said something to the effect of "He took my Taser", not "He took my Taser and Tazed me." He certainly didn't act like he had just been hit with one. It's a rather painful and "rattling" experience. The cops stood there pretty calmly, opened fire, and then walked over to the downed man like nothing had happened (people on here have noted how calm he seemed after the shooting). Last, a fired Taser is a big mess. The wires are out and tangle around everything. Whatever he dropped wasn't that. The reports are saying that the witness who took the video heard the sound of a Taser, but that could easily be "non-shooting" use. They have contacts that allow a Taser to be used as a contact stun gun. No barbs or wires. I can't tell what the thing dangling from his chest is. It might be Taser barbs/wires, it might be something different. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 22. Rodney King was beaten because he wouldn't comply. He kept trying to get up. As soon as he stopped (mostly because he was unable to continue), they stopped.
