Ummm... 40F? Really? I jump an open face. I've jumped when it was 40F on the ground and -10F to -20F when we opened the door (yes, temp at altitude was twenty below). I'll wear a balaclava to cover my neck, but that's it. You aren't exposed to it long enough to really matter. And I usually don't feel the cold until I open. I've never had a problem with goggles fogging in the air. Either in freefall or under canopy. Others have had issues with full faces. Not sure opening the visor in freefall is a good idea. The funny (not humorous) part of this is that when Trump was the typical "I'm not a professional politician" candidate, just like the last time he tried to run, just like Forbes, just like Perot; he polled in the low single digits. Just like any "anti-establishment" candidate. It was when he started his bigoted, xenophobic, sexist stuff that his poll numbers rose. It wasn't really a "silent majority", it was a large minority of people who had been shamed into silence because that sort of hatred isn't socially acceptable anymore. They came crawling out from under their rocks when Trump vocalized the hatred that they feel. The hatred that the Republicans have fed and fostered very carefully, without actually stating it, for years. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Conspiracy, collusion, price fixing is not capitalism. It's criminal. At least in the US. Your business and my business can't get together and say we're going to drive a third business out of business. Ummm.... No. Cartels and monopolies are capitalism. They are the "dark side" of it, but they are most definitely "capitalism". They are a part of it that hurts consumers in the form of high prices (due to absolute power and total control) in order to enrich the owners of the companies. Look at the US in the "Wild West" days of capitalism. Rockefeller, Carnegie, Vanderbilt, that crew. They pulled every dirty trick in the book and got rich doing it. Teddy Roosevelt and his "trust busting" tactics made it illegal here in the US, and benefitted the average citizen greatly. Which is a good thing. Don't misunderstand. I don't like cartels, monopolies and unrestrained, cutthroat capitalism any more than total socialism, communism or facism. But the dark side of capitalism is most definitely capitalism. I can't decide which is dumber. The people that thought this was a good idea. Or the people that thought this was actually going to happen. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Yes. Perfectly so. My preferences (in order): Load organizer or most experienced jumper in the group* Anyone in the group* Pilot** Manifest or anyone who can verify that I jumped (like someone I sat next to on the plane). Myself (it is legal according to USPA) No sig. About 10% of my logbook is unsigned. First * - If I'm making several jumps with the same group, I will get sigs from different people, not the same one every time. Second ** - Pilot is a legal sig, but getting it can be a bit difficult unless there's a weather hold or you wait until the end of the day. I've never gotten a "no", but I've gotten "not now, catch me later". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The PEZ company held an Easter Egg Hunt for kids. Why am I not at all surprised that greedy parents ruined the event? https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/03/28/parents-bum-rushed-connecticut-easter-egg-hunt/ "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." You keep repeating that. Do you have a source for that quote? I looked around and found what I think you are trying to quote, but that's not it. Close, but not quite. The real one is kind of funny. At least where Obama got it from is. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Reality? I'm not quite sure how that applies here. I know that one of the laws being fought is a "Background checks for all transfers" one. Despite the fact that none of the high profile shootings (including the one in Colorado) involved guns acquired in private party purchases, the anti-gun crowd has hopped on the background check bandwagon. So they passed a law (and more than a few of the lawmakers who pushed it through faced recall elections and lost) that requires background checks for all transfers. And worded it broadly enough that just about any time a gun changes hands, a check is required (not just for change of ownership). Taking a gun to a gunsmith for work? Check required. Picking your own gun up from the same gunsmith after work was done? Check required. Lending a gun to a friend so they can go hunting or target shooting? Check required. Renting a gun from a range? Check required. And so on. And without registration, this law is unenforceable. How would anyone know a person bought a gun in a private party transaction before or after the law went into effect (presuming the gun was purchased new before the law went into effect)? AND... The Supreme Court, in the "Heller" decision, clearly stated that restrictions on commercial sales were within the 2nd. Why would they state "commercial sales" in the decision, unless they considered private sales and commercial sales to be different situations? Unfortunately, the anti-gun types tend to want the government to "do something, do anything, pass some sort of law to protect us." So pointless, useless, unenforceable laws get passed. And when the crimes don't stop, the antis want more restrictions. Somehow, it seems that the types of laws that actually have an effect on gun crime never make the news. Laws that target the criminal instead of the gun. Laws that mandate gun crimes not be plea bargained away. Laws that set heavy penalties for using a gun in a crime. But those laws don't affect the guns in the hands of those people who don't break the law. They don't take guns away from people. Or make them harder to get. So the anti-gun types don't like them. New Tandem, Student, Re: wingsuit BSR

And that video is probably the core reason for this. Not what has happened, but what could happen. These flybys have occurred. There are videos of them up in various places. I'm reasonably sure most (as in all but a few) have gone as planned. But exactly how many almost went bad? I'm sure more than just that one. But I'd also bet fairly heavily that when they did happen, video wasn't released, the TM, WSer & maybe the DZO got together and said something like: "Don't ever do that again. And don't tell anyone what almost happened." This BSR has one purpose. Cover the manufacturers ass. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I guess that is the case now with you people. My generation was more clear. Well, the way the brain works hasn't changed in that small of a time. "Your generation" was just mistaken on the particulars of how it works.

Except true "left brain" or "right brain" thinking only happens when the two hemisphere's are disconnected. For normal healthy typical people, the corpus callosum connects the two sides very effectively. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/brain-myths/201206/why-the-left-brain-right-brain-myth-will-probably-never-die "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Ron's got it pretty close. The "desperation" however, is manufactured. The Rs have fed into the fears and hatred of the blue collar conservatives for the past 7 years (well, for a lot longer than that, but really hard the last 7 years). They didn't come right out and say it, but they made sure any possible increase in legal immigration or legalizing those here illegally failed miserably ("amnesty" anyone?). They fed people the "death panel" lie about Obamacare (like the insurance companies didn't already make those kind of decisions). They feel squeezed out as the good blue collar jobs go overseas. They feel forced to accept things they used to be able to make "invisible" (minorities, gays, that sort of thing). They still have a better standard of living than somewhere well above 90% of the rest of the world, but that doesn't matter. They are afraid they will lose what they have. So along comes Trump. He starts off as a typical "Not Professional Politician" and does about as well as they usually do. But he's a damned good salesman (not businessman, salesman) and he realizes exactly what that type of person wants to hear. So he says "Mexicans are Rapists", "No more Muslim Immigrants", "Build a Wall & Make Mexico Pay for It", and the most ridiculous, "Make America Great Again" (making America great is ridiculous, it's just that he says this and nothing else about what will be changed or how). And the scared and indignant sheep buy it. Hook, line and sinker. They think "he's one of us", when he isn't. They make up shit about him, shit like "Trump is 100% behind the 2nd Amendment" when he's on record in favor of the AWB. This sort of "hero worship" is dangerous. Demagogues like this are dangerous. He feeds on the adulation, then tells them more of what they want to hear, without any real substance. And the cycle builds. Assuming he gets elected (and that's admittedly a stretch), what would happen if he "suggested" that armed citizens form "posses" and start rounding up illegal immigrants? (they could all wear khaki shirts. A red armband with a white circle with a large black "T" would be a nice accessory). DanG said that Trump scared him, not his supporters. Both scare me rather badly. Because I know what has happened historically when this sort of thing gets going. I'm a white male. Unless Trump starts going after Gingers, I'm safe. At least from the direct threat. But the fallout and chaos and aftermath of what might happen will be rather messy. Nobody will be fully safe from that... Except maybe people like Ron, safe in his retreat. Ironic, isn't it? And someone asked why Trump was scarier than Muslim terrorists. After all, the "MTs" had killed thousands. Well, yeah. 3k in one very successful attack. Other than that, how many in the US in, say, the last 25 years? Less than 100. How many skydivers went in in the same time frame? (guessing around 600). How many traffic fatalities? Try around 750k (about three quarters of a million) Terrorism isn't really on my list of stuff I'm worried about. I'm far more concerned about some idiot taking me out when I'm on my motorcycle. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Ya gotta wonder what these guys were thinking. Did they think that they won? That the feds would just sort of "forget" about it? I have to admit, I was questioning what the feds were doing and going to do. Biding their time and waiting for the Bundys to get careless is certainly a lot less "messy" (less noisy too) than forcing their way in. And the Bundy I'd be most interested in the whereabouts of is Kelly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." He sounds serious. I don't think he understands what he's getting into, but he sounds serious. No kidding. Supersonic flight isn't really easy (actually it's the trans-sonic part that gets weird). There's tons of research out there, but even with modern computer simulations, designing a whole new plane is not going to be a trivial task. Look at what they went through at Edwards in the 50s & 60s (and particularly how many crashed) to get an idea of how hard supersonic is. Most of the people I jump with would ask "where is your suit?" If the answer is "I don't have one", then the necessity for one when doing RW would be pointed out. It wouldn't get sugar coated. ^This. I find it rather amusing that someone who claims to have been "saved" and has a "personal relationship" with Jesus acts in a manner that is pretty much opposite His teachings. The Bible can be confusing and contradictory in many ways. But the teachings of Christ are pretty consistent across the NT. "Be nice to each other." is the overall theme. Not "arm yourself when going into 'enemy territory'". Not "drive out those who are different". I guess Ron's consistent message nicely illustrates the statement "There is no question that God will forgive us our derelictions if we ask, but under no circumstances does he render us white as snow and keep us that way without our help." And Ron, why only Pentacostal? Aren't Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists (well, not AME of course), Protestants or any other Christians good enough for you? Just a guess, but I think he wants to "use" all sorts of the quasi-legal stuff that these types thrive on. Jury nullification, sovereign citizenship, all the crap that the woman tried to pull in her legal "brief" that the judge disallowed. A real lawyer both knows better and could be disciplined (both by the judge and by the Bar) This idiot, however, will just spout off, get held in contempt, spout off again, get removed from the courtroom (video conference), then try to use these "violations of his rights" to file appeals. One will probably include inadequate counsel (as in the judge erred by letting him represent himself - really, it's been done). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Both of those have been going around for years. Neither has any solid evidence. Indications that they are minor incidents that were exaggerated and blown all out of proportion, yes. For example, the "uniforms" thing seems to have started with a junior staffer saying "I don't talk to people in uniforms". I don't like her, and I have my reasons, but neither of these is on the list. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Bit of a difference between you ostracizing and driving out Muslims from your "tribal enclave" and your inability to live among people who are different. Well, it's actually the same thing. But in one case it's you making a decision for yourself, and in the other it's forcing someone out because you don't like them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, that would be one more year of actual work than they do now, wouldn't it? I am going to try (admittedly, not very hard) to go to an event for my Senator (Ron Johnson, R-WI). I want to ask him if he is against giving government money and benefits to people who refuse to work. Pretty sure he'll say "yes", at which point I'm going to ask him if he's still collecting his pay. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
