  1. You are correct on one thing. People here do make pointless attacks on religion and aim them at Ron. But Ron's claims about Obama's beliefs are even more unfounded. Many (most?) of the "attacks on Ron's faith" are far more aimed at his hypocrisy, not his faith. If he'd actually follow the teachings of Jesus, instead of claiming he's "saved", then post some of the stuff that he does, he'd probably not get but a fraction of the flack he gets. Personal favorite: Jesus said something to the effect of "love your enemies" and "turn the other cheek", yet Ron admits "fighting back and retaliating" on here. 2. The "streamers" he's referring to are the ones that get "cooked" in midair in the focused mirror kinds of solar arrays. Even so, fossil fuels kill more (in the linked article). But that's a vastly different type of solar power than a standard PV setup (which is what I think was being discussed). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. No. We were hiding it pretty good until BHO took office. Then the reality of how little progress we've made in the last 50 years became rather obvious. We've actually made a lot of progress, in certain areas and among certain people. But some folks will never change. And a certain presidential candidate has made it easier to "come out of the closet" and be publicly racist. These sort of comments weren't really common a couple years ago. They were there, but not as much. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  4. On & fastened before I get on the plane (maybe not if we are getting into the 182 before engine start). I will take it off and usually set it on my knee after "seat belts off", but back on & fastened anytime people are getting out (low passes for H&Ps). It's an open face & I can have it on and buckled in about 3 seconds if needed. I can't understand how or why people would use the seat belt to secure it. If you don't want it on your head, strap it to your chest strap. And how would they do that so that the SB had to be unbuckled to release the helmet? Unless it's a full face with the visor up & they have the belt through the "eye hole" part. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. As much damage as building a road? I'm not sure how wind turbines are used in solar arrays. I was comparing the need for building a road. Billvon pointed out that the requirements for a solar array are significantly different than for a wind turbine. And as far as damage goes, "it depends." How much gear needs to go in? How many vehicle trips? How big of a vehicle? A rutted trail can be more damaging than a gravel road that stays intact. Partly due to erosion (not that big of a deal in the desert), partly due to when the trail gets bad, people tend to cut a new one. There are some off road horror stories about places where the official trail got rutted, so the riders started going "a bit to the side" and eventually a fairly narrow trail ended up being as wide as a four lane road, with total devastation and serious erosion issues. I would think that with a bit of thought and planning, these sorts of installations could be done with minimal impact. Its just that the installers have to think (and pay for) that sort of thing. Which doesn't often happen unless there's a strong regulatory "'incentive". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. Such a strategy will have to wait until someone invents a vehicle capable of being driven on non-paved surfaces. Even "all terrain" vehicles do damage. Ever seen what a field looks like after a tank (or similar tracked vehicle) goes through it? Depends on what they need for the installation. Around here, there are a lot of wind turbines going up. They need a pretty wide road to get the trucks down it. The ready mix trucks (cement mixers) for the foundation, the "oversize load" trucks with the pieces of the tower, the housing and the blades, that sort of thing. They dump a lot of gravel to create those roads. After the tower is constructed, about half (or more) of the road width is removed. The gravel is scooped up and moved to the next site. They leave enough of a road for maintenance vehicles (usually pickup trucks) to get in. The majority of the turbines are installed in farm fields. The "make a road big enough to build it and then take out most of it but leave enough to get in to work on it" concept is the most practical. Taking out the entire road, then trailering in something that could get through the field in all conditions really isn't practical. 7. Alright. The Republican investigation of the attacks has officially jumped the shark. When the DoD complains about wasting money, you know it's bad. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

    WHAT???

Hmmmm... So if I shave my eyebrows and wear underwear on my head... Hmmmmmm... Does it have to be my underwear? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  9. Isn't there a rule about criticizing someone else's spelling or grammar? Skitt's Law Not about doing it (or not doing it), but about what happens when you do it. 10. That's the part that gets me. Gun rights proponents (and I'm one) say that the bad actions of a very few shouldn't affect the many who follow the rules. Yet, they seem to think that allowing the TG folk into the bathrooms that are appropriate to their appearance should be banned because it might give a predator the opportunity to prey on "the womenfolk." Yet the reality seems to be the exact opposite. For a female to male TG to follow this law, they would have to use the ladies' room. Even though they look, act, sound & dress like a man. So according to this law, "male appearing" women need to go into the ladies room. Which would make it more common to see men in there. Which would, it would seem, give male predators more opportunity, not less. But that fact seems lost on those who support these kinds of things. They seem to just enjoy ostracizing and discriminating against those who are "different." And, just out of curiosity, what "more letters daily" have been added? I don't recall any changes in that designation in a while. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  11. It could be a "country" thing. I'm in the US, website is "Skysystems USA." Worked just now (2058 CDT - 0158Z) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  14. Well, it looks like the parachutes functioned properly. I saw the Humvees fall off the platforms when they swung forward on opening. Apparently someone didn't check the tiedowns closely enough. 15. True. But when "what is right for the US" turns into stuff like Iran (coup that overthrew an elected leader and installed the Shah), Chile (elected leader assassinated by the CIA), Panama (dictator installed and supported by the US, at least until he pissed us off too much), Argentina (vicious and brutal military dictatorship supported by the US), much of Central America (vicious and brutal dictatorships installed & supported so that US fruit companies could make more profit), and on and on and on. You start to wonder. And, of course, they don't teach much of this in public schools. It undermines the concept of "American Exceptionalism". 16. We have them around here too. They have a sign that says something like "Left turn yield to oncoming traffic on flashing yellow arrow." Like they think people actually read signs. We have another one at a pedestrian crossing by a paper mill. It used to have a traffic light, but too many people ignored the light because it was green except for shift change. So they put in a "better" light. People push the button, yellow lights start flashing, then steady red, then after a little bit, flashing red. Yellow means "go fast and get through", steady red means "Stop and wait", flashing red means "Stop at line and go when clear" (there's a sign that says that about the flashing red). Does anybody actually follow those directions? Take a guess. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. This one is common grounds. as for people stopping back for the sensors....I'm not convinced, the demographics seems to match two types: timid people and obsessively oblivious texters, not traffic technology savvy people - but my personal observations are likely biased Well, it does only really apply in left turn lanes with an "on demand" arrow. There's one of those near my mom's house. I know when it's people doing it deliberately to trip the arrow when they move up as I pull up behind them (I'm then the one activating the arrow). But attributing it to stupid people is probably more accurate. Not sure who said it, but something to the effect of "don't give too much credit to people for clever behavior. Much of the time it's oblivious stupidity that gets lucky." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. those BASTARDS - your best bet in this situation, if someone is behind you, would be to pull forward way past the stop line - just park it in the cross walk if you can. Or, even better, stop at least an entire car length BACK from the stop line. (seeing both of these things a LOT more lately). Both bug me, but I think the 2nd one is even more annoying. The "stopping back" is an attempt to get an arrow. They have metal detector loops in the pavement (they sense the metal in the car, not the weight of it). The traffic engineers have decided that an arrow for only one car isn't a good thing, so they set the detector back a space or two. So the impatient people stop at that spot to trigger the arrow. Stopping well across the line (like into the crosswalk) is stupid. The car is often past the sensor, so the arrow never appears. It also makes it difficult for a semi to make a turn. They put that line where it is for a reason people!! And people aren't smart enough to make good decisions. But it should be their right to make stupid ones, not the government's job to regulate stuff (within limits - but exactly where those limits should be is a big can of worms). 19. So what sort of research are they basing these conclusions on? Seriously, there have been some attempts to research this subject. They keep running into a pretty insurmountable issue. They can't find any adult males who have never watched any. So how can anyone draw the conclusion that "porn is harmful" when they can't compare people who have "been harmed" to those who haven't. Yes, I know. It's religion, not science. Proof isn't necessary. OTOH, this is simply a "declaration", with no legal standing or funding. Just another indication that the "American Taliban" are out there trying to dictate how people live their lives. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. We'll see what happens. The R party leadership is having a collective heart attack. I wonder what kind of dirty tricks they will try to pull and how much they think they can get away with (and how much they actually can get away with). Christie for VP. If Trump is smart, he'll pull a long time, high level State Dept person for SecState. But I'll bet pretty heavy that he won't be smart and try to bring in some dufus. 21. You do know that the term "well regulated" meant "well armed", not "subject to lots of rules" at the time it was written, right? And that the "Unorganized Militia" was every able bodied adult male? And that one of the earlier versions of the 2nd A was worded as: Composed of the body of the people. Not the National Guard. Everyone. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  22. First off, I'm against the death penalty overall, more because of the flaws in the "justice system" and the way cases are prosecuted than any moral objection to killing criminals. The two women are two rather different cases. Tucker had been a small time criminal for over a decade and was in her mid-20s at the time. Her crime was a robbery that turned into murder, then a double murder to eliminate a witness at the scene. She certainly was remorseful once on death row. And I'm going to guess that death row has a similar amount of atheists as the proverbial foxhole, for similar reasons. I don't think any death row conversion to religion of any type should be an issue in any petition for clemency. Van Houton was 18 at the time. She was a very troubled and vulnerable kid when she fell under the control of a charismatic madman. All the Manson women were. The 'brainwashing" Manson used is typical of any cult. I wouldn't hold any of them completely responsible for the Tate/LaBianca killings (Manson was responsible). She and the others were given death sentences as much because they were still under Manson's control at the time of the trial as any other reason. I seriously doubt any of them would have done that sort of thing without Manson. I also believe that all of them would have been executed if the SC hadn't abolished the DP in the mid-70s. They would not have made it past the early 80s. At the time, California was as serious about executions as Texas is today. Should she be paroled? Maybe. Given her history, it's pretty doubtful that she is any threat to the public. Keep in mind that Linda Kasibian was never prosecuted, despite being the driver (immunity in exchange for testimony) and she has been out of the limelight since then. OTOH, Squeaky Fromme tried to kill then-president Ford. But she wasn't prosecuted for the Tate/LaBianca killings. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 23. I honestly don't know his campaign platform. But the Rs tend to be big on "law and order", "family values" and "responsible gun ownership". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  24. Ya think? http://www.syracuse.com/us-news/index.ssf/2016/04/georgia_lawmaker_gets_dui_with_kids_gun_in_car.html 72 in a 45 zone. BAC 0.225%. 4 juveniles in the car (doesn't say if they were kids or teenagers). And carrying a gun. Care to guess which party before you open the link?
