Yep. Water out of the tap is fine. Why can't anyone understand this? A 10% bleach/water solution is a VERY effective disinfectant. I learned this years ago when I took Bloodborne Pathogens training at work. I was at the store yesterday (needed lettuce and a canteloupe). All the 'sanitizers' were gone. Gallons & gallons of bleach on the shelf. "K" in Men in Black was right.

Really? Not baffling in the least to me.

I'm going to guess even the most dedicated sycophantic minion looked at all the previous investigations and realized that there was nothing they could convict her on.

Water is wet and the sky is blue too, Professor. Some people will believe anything that promotes their beliefs, no matter how ridiculous.

Getting back into jumping, need help choosing rig
wolfriverjoe replied to jumpmeat's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you go 210 or so 'stepping out of the shower', then you will need to go bigger than a 220 to go 1:1. Keep in mind it's based on exit weight. Everything, including all the gear. And a rig holding canopies that size won't be light. If you had a Jav before, and liked it, then get another. They are nice rigs. But so is just about every common rig out there. Containers themselves aren't really 'suited to a body type', with a few exceptions for more 'outlier' body types. Harness sizing will be what makes the rig fit or not fit. -
Yeah. The Clinton Foundation has been investigated several times. There were some allegations that various foreign entities donated to it in order to gain access to HRC when she was SecState. Nothing was substantiated. OTOH, there have been a few investigations of the TRUMP Foundation. It's been shut down, the Trumps themselves (Donald, Don Jr, Eric, Ivanka, Jared Kushner, ect) have all been barred from any involvement. Go figure.

There's not a simple answer. For tracking and angle jumps, it's an absolute. No tracking up or down jumprun (possible exceptions for first or last group out). Some DZs require an experienced jumper (approved by the S&TA) to lead those groups. I've personally had a 'tracking' pair open up directly underneath me. I was on an organized jump at a bigger DZ. The pair was out first. The organizer for my group repeatedly warned them about tracking in a safe direction. Apparently their plan was to track perpendicular to jumprun for a time, then, when safely offset, turn up jumprun. Apparently they overestimated their tracking ability because they didn't go very far off of jumprun and only went up far enough to reach the next group (us). Yes, they got a stern 'talking to'. For groups of freefallers, it can get complicated. It's fairly easy for a two way to split up and each go perpendicular, but any bigger than four and it's not realistic. Throw in the fact that bigger groups (8 and more) usually break off higher to give more time to track and things can get 'interesting'. I've seen an 8 way and a 4 way each track apart and end up with people scary close to each other. The ones from the 8 way tracked up, the one from the 4 way tracked down. And the three of them (in this particular case, it was 3) ended up actually going past each other. Fortunately, nothing bad happened. But all 'safety procedures and rules' had been adhered to. The standard separation, based on GPS ground speed was followed. The decision was made to put in more separation after the 8 way left. The smaller groups that were also jumping (4 and smaller, plus the tandems) didn't have any conflicts among themselves, it was the 8 way that was breaking off higher, plus having experienced jumpers who could track really well that was the issue. It was fixed after the first jump and was fine the rest of the day. This is something that different DZs handle differently. It should be covered in a proper DZ brief. If you don't know or it wasn't covered, make sure you find out.

Welcome back. Where is the 'preponderance of evidence' for the existence of God? You claimed it years ago, yet failed to provide one iota of actual evidence. Where is it?
-
The part that strikes me as odd is that it seems that God decided to give each independent group of people a different set of instructions. Along with a different origin story. Almost as if it didn't come from a "God" at all, that someone just made it all up.

Ok, that's funny. I thought the idea of being a 'prepper' was actually being prepared. Not waiting for the panic to start before stocking up.

I know my wing load, now what?
wolfriverjoe replied to George D. Avramidis's question in Questions and Answers
Have you read Brian Germain's Downsizing chart (actually the article that goes with it) yet? It's a sticky in the Canopy & Swooping forum. He talks about it some. His book, The Canopy and it's Pilot is a good source of info too. Your wingloading is simply a ratio. Weight to canopy area. It gives an idea of how fast your canopy will go. How quickly it will respond to control inputs. But just an idea. Any concrete numbers need to be actually measured. -
Well, you certainly don't want to run out, do you? One thing I learned from the (fairly minor) Swine Flu outbreak a while back was that if it gets bad, going out in public may become a bad idea. When Swine was looking like it might get bad (never did) in Mexico, a lot of public places were closed. Including grocery stores. So even if one was willing to risk going into public, the store was closed. So I slowly "hoarded" a bit of food, water and other essentials (including TP). Presuming power stays on, I can last a while without needing to leave the house if I choose not to.

West Nile is real. Fairly low impact. Not too many people get it. It's not transmitted 'person to person'/ Swine flu was a pretty small outbreak. But it still got interesting in Mexico. Bird flu never took hold. Ebola never got out of Africa (the two nurses were infected treating a case out of Africa, there were no other transmissions in the US). NONE OF THOSE ever reached the point that Corona has right now. I will agree that the media is blowing it somewhat out of proportion, but thinking it's 'no big deal' is foolish. But you go ahead. There's lots of folks who think they don't need to worry. We'll see.

In part because the BoR applies to the government. And what it can (and cannot) do. For example, the government cannot restrict speech. But an employer can. Or a private entity like this site. Certain types of speech are pretty strictly regulated. In a manner that would clearly violate the 1st A if it applied here (a couple mods made that statement more than once). It can be illegal for individuals to violate the rights of other individuals. And those individuals can be punished for violating those rights. But to pretend that an entire group of people (gun owners) is collectively violating the rights of people, when it's really a tiny fraction of them would be wrong. To punish them, to take away their rights, to take away their property (that has never been used to violate anyone's rights) would be wrong.

No, it's pathetic. But those sorts of people need the false equivalence to maintain their pretense.
-
They absolutely do. But, unfortunately, some people are too stupid to recognize when someone will represent their interests. Or even what is best for them. Others are so gullible that they believe the blatant lies. Others allow their hatred to blind them.

Depends on the canopy. PD says 40 repacks or 25 rides. Then it needs to go back to manufacturer for inspection & possible recertification. No clue about any other makers.

In Minnesota, there are several challengers to Ilhan Omar (the US citizen Trump wants to 'send back'). One of them is a bit 'fringe'. Believes the "Q" idiocy, says Omar is an Iranian agent and should be 'tried for treason and hanged'. But that's not the 'scumbag' part. She has a felony arrest warrant out on her. Failure to appear for several court appearances for shoplifting. Over $2k in stolen goods, which is why it's a felony. https://news.yahoo.com/ilhan-omar-challenger-literally-run-093551996.html?soc_src=hl-viewer&soc_trk=fb

"Mad Mike" Killed Attempting to Prove Earth Flat
wolfriverjoe replied to Phil1111's topic in The Bonfire
Pretty much. Little or no unmanned testing. Just build it, get in and go. What could possibly go wrong? The comments on the YouTube video are pretty harsh. But he earned it. One is about the genius of building a 'self burying coffin'. Another mentions Wile E Coyote. And Acme. One of the articles (I've read several, not sure if its in the linked one) said he planned to go to 5000' and take pictures. That's utterly hilarious. Why did he need to do something stupid like a homemade rocket when an airplane could have been rented for a sight-seeing flight for a tiny fraction of what he spent on that rocket. With a much better chance of surviving the flight. I would also think that a distance from the surface of 1/8000th the diameter of the earth would give very little perspective on the curvature. I think you need to get up to 50k or so to see it for itself. However, the idea that you can see much further from higher up give support to the 'round' earth. One just has to be smart enough to understand geometry to realize it. -
Some people are fed up. Some are just fine with it, as long as what they want happens. That can be appointing judges who will roll back rights for women and minorities. That can be cutting taxes for the rich. That can be simply 'pissing off the left'. They simply ignore or deny the danger that Trump and his minions represent to our democracy. The funniest (not really) part is that so many 'Trumpettes' are afraid of 'communism and socialism', yet ignore Russian involvement, despite the fact that Putin was head of the KGB in the old Soviet Union, and most of those in power in Russia are the same ones that were behind most of it during the Soviet era.

The whole Russian interference thing, along with the reaction of the Mango Mussolini - anger at the fact the Ds on the House committee were told, firing the DNI and replacing him with a Toady, all of that should scare the living fuck out of any intelligent citizen.

The As, Bs, Cs & Ds are the lines from front to back. As & Bs on front riser, Cs & Ds on rear. 7 vs 9 cell won't matter for that. However, you will only have 3 'flakes' for a 7 cell, vs 4 for a 9 cell. So you will still have 4 line groups, with 3 sets of flakes. It's just that each 'flake group' will only have 3 folds of fabric, and 3 lines each.

Don't slide. It's an advanced technique, and it requires pretty precise timing/height judgement to pull off well. You have neither at this point (same as everyone else). It also requires knowing the landing area very well (where are the holes & ruts that will catch a foot?). I've had a jump or two that I had planned on sliding in up until I saw a rut (or hole or lump or whatever) about 10' in front of my contact point. Precisely placed to break my ankle during the slide. Changed to a PLF and was fine. PLF is what you needed here. It's a vital skill that should be in every jumper's toolbox. It can save your leg, foot or ankle on any given jump. I've heard it said (by Wendy) that planning to PLF on every jump is important. If things go well, stand it up. But consider a 'stand up' landing a bonus, not the standard.

Clinton committed the crime of Perjury. He was found in contempt of court while he was still President and fined $90k. He admitted that he lied under oath, and as a result paid a $25k fine to the AR Bar Assoc, and surrendered his law licence for 5 years. Those 'penalties' were part of an agreement to avoid criminal charges after he left office.
