There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

A serious preponderance about Trump and Covid-19
wolfriverjoe replied to turtlespeed's topic in Speakers Corner
It's kind of funny. Trump's approval ratings went up a few points as this crisis unfolded, despite his clear incompetence. That wasn't all that surprising. Approval ratings of the Pres always go up during a crisis. GWB saw huge increases in the fall of 2001. The 'funny' part is how small the approval increases for Trump were. And that they've gone away already. -

You're just figuring that out, aren't you? -

I've seen them. Most of that type of tank that I'm familiar with has an electric pump. That one is gravitiy fed (from what the pic shows), but that would be slow as hell. The only people I know who have them are farmers. Everyone else I know (myself included) goes to the gas station. I doubt that Bill has enough storage for a car. Very few people who have home solar have any storage. My point was that he could use the power produced at the time to charge his car. Most home solar arrays wouldn't have enough capability to run the house and charge the car at the same time (as I said). But if there's no other choice, I'd shut down most everything in the house to let the car get most of the power. -

I seem to recall that Bill has solar on his house. I don't know if he has enough to run the house and charge the car, but if it were me, I'd shut down everything to charge the car if the grid power was down. You can't pump gas without power either. -

You ask this assuming that there IS an 'official policy'. Assuming Trump has any plan other than 'get re-elected'. Assuming he actually pays any attention to briefings or documents. That's pretty naieve. He'd have to have some level of care or concern for anything or anyone other than himself for that to happen.Anyone including the citizens of the country. Anything including the country itself. I've seen zero evidence of either of those. -
Well, no. The story is from Newsweek. Did you actually read it? Or just words in the link? Of course, the header on the link is "Newsweek". The "National Enquirer" is part of the title. As Jakee pointed out, the owner of the National Enquirer has/had a habit of buying the rights to a lot of stories that painted Trump in a bad light. It's detailed in the story. That's the same outlet that also tried to blackmail Jeff Bezos with naked pics of him and his girlfriend. Of course, the owner of the Enquirer is a good friend of Trump and Bezos owns the Washington Post.

1994. Apparently the girl dropped the suit after receiving death threats. https://www.newsweek.com/trump-teen-rape-allegation-national-enquirer-ronan-farrow-jane-doe-1465652

Kinda depends on where you draw the 'child molester' line. Typically, it's pre-pubescent. In Trump's case, that would be a 'no'. However, he's publicly bragged about how he was able to walk in on teenage girls changing. Bragged about being able to do it. He also bragged that he and his friend, Epstein, had similar tastes in 'younger girls'. The story about his involvment with teenaged models (was that in this thread or another?) was pretty clear that he was going after underaged girls. And the lawsuit that he raped a 13 year old at an Epstein party progressed quite a ways. Not sure exactly where it is now, but the story was pretty credible and backed by several supporting facts. How much evidence do you need?

You've got to remember that these are simple farmers. These are people of the land, the common clay of the New West. You know, morons - The Waco Kid. And they admire his 'better qualities'. How he denigrates and insults those who oppose him, his admiration of Nazis, the KKK & Kim Jong Un, his denial of science and actual knowledge, his 'helping' of friends and family, his blatant racism.

There you go. Using facts. (correct ones, too). Don't you understand that he doesn't argue based on those? -
Well, when you wrote 'from POTUS himself', that would imply he either created it or reposted it. Now you backpedal to 'approved' it. Please give one shred of evidence that the Mango Mussolini had anything to do with this. After all, he was 'too busy' to do a decent job prepping for the pandemic. I find it rather ludicrous that he would have time to indulge in his "Q" duties. You know, exposing the 'Deep State', forming tribunals on Gitmo, arresting HRC, all that shit that you keep thinking is going to happen.

Sorry, I have a hard time believing this. I hate him with a passion, but too many of the accusations in here are too extreme. I can't believe the idea that he wears Depends and regularly needs them wouldn't have come out already. Or that he's had that many 'relationships' with that many women and it didn't come out. There are too many WH staffers leaking too much material for this to have been kept secret. Not that he can't be and isn't regularly manipulated by those close to him. But there's just too much in here for me to believe it.
-
That's been very clear for a very long time. Why do you think so few people actually respond?
-
Or, to put it another way, when you have a really, really cool hammer, you will find a nail. Even if it isn't really a nail.
-
'Cuz that's what he wants to believe. Haven't you figured that out about him yet? What he wants to believe is true. What he doesn't want to believe is false.
-
Of course not. They CAN'T. Same as when you ask them 'what about saying that Nazis & KKK are "very fine people"'. They ignore it or deflect it. Or throw out 'what about Benghazi?' Standard "gaslighting" behavior. Which is one of the few things that Trump is actually really good at.

Should Biden Get the Nomination in Light of an Apparent Sexual Assault
wolfriverjoe replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
Bullshit. If Biden actually committed the assaut, and it's not clear he did, then he would be an accused rapist. So is Trump. So that part's a wash. However, I have yet to hear anything like: Credible accusations of being involved with the East coast mafia for construction projects. Credible accusations of laundering money for the Russian mob. Using his "Charitable Foundation" to pay a porn star to keep quiet. Getting barred by a court of law from operating his "Charitable Foundation" after using it as a personal piggy bank. (wasn't there some criticsm about the Clinton Foundation?) Being married 3 times and cheating on all three wives (wasn't there some criticism about HRC staying with Bill despite his cheating?) Creating a fake "University" to con people out of money. Bribing two states' attorneys general to make fraud charges about the "University" go away. Bribing a Manhattan DA to make felony real estate fraud charges against two of his kids go away. Callng a brutal despot a 'great guy' and gushing about how much he loved him. Plus giving said tyrant a personal visit, thus greatly enhancing his stature. Arbirtrarily ending an international agreement, despite the protests of ALL the other countries involved. Then committing an act of war against the main country in that agreement. Calling Nazis & KKK "very fine people". I could go on and on and on and on. But to pretend accepting Biden's accusation of sexual assault when most folks find it abhorrent is 'hypocrisy' is to ignore the fact that even if Biden did rape that woman (and a bunch of others), he's way, way, waaaaaaaaaay ahead of the Mango Mussolini in the 'behavior' department. -
I don't. But the fact that he is high up in the R party in Texas, and used his connections to get the drug is suggestive. The fact that it was purely experimental, and had mixed results in very limited testing should mean that 'just for the hell of it' tests by doctors that run sketchy nursing homes is really, really stupid. I'm real. I'm just sick and tired of the fools that don't see how dangerous and stupid Trump is. How destructive his behaviors are. How much damage he's doing to the institutions that make a difference (State Dept, Intel services, judiciary) in the country and around the world.

As was pointed out, this is vastly different from SARS. Closer to H1N1, but worse. Much more deadly. After SARS & H1N1, the US put in place a plan for the next pandemic and put a team togther. What happened? Trump threw the plan out and disbanded the team. WE LEARNED FROM THE LAST ONE!!! But the idiot in Chief chose to ignore the lessons. New Zealand, Australia & Germany have all done pretty decent jobs of dealing with this. Italy, Spain & Iran got hosed so bad because it made it there and started spreading widely before it was understood how bad it was. Here in the US, travel wasn't shut down, quarantine measures weren't put in place, the Mango Mussolini stood up and told fairy tales about how it would 'just go away'. So now we have the worst of it in the entire world. To say that 'it's hard to assign blame to just one leader' completely ignores Trump's culpability. His blatant incomptetence. His criminal stupidity. Of course the Rs are more concerned with the economy than people's lives. So they are pushing to reopen. And if we reopen, the 2nd wave of infections will make the last couple months look like a toddler with the sniffles. We really aren't through with the first wave yet. Infections aren't down, they're increasing. The Spanish Flu killed 50 million (estimated), not 20. About 80% of that was in the second wave. It hit, people locked down, it started to get better and they opened back up... And it hit in a second wave that was about 10 times worse. If we reopen now, I wouldn't be terribly surprised to see this last until fall... Or later. But hey, the Alt Right feels they need to run around with rifles hanging off their shoulders, trying to intimidate lawmakers. LIke terrorists. I've seen the term "Vanilla ISIS" around. Rather fitting.

Well, I'm not familiar with the situation out in CA, or by Wendy in MA, but here in WI, they are doing a reasonably comptent job of trying to stay on top of it. We've been on a fairly tight lockdown since March, and it is working pretty well. None of the hospitals or health departments is totally overwhelmed. Busy as all hell, but mostly keeping up. Confirmed cases are 'contact traced', then the people who were potentially infected are tested. People who experience sypmtoms are encouraged to contact health care. Not to go, but to call or video conference (I posted this already). The health care folk decide what to do from there. There is a decent amount of testing going on, but it's 'doctor directed'. People who experience symptoms and call the doc get a slip to go get tested. They are doing a lot of 'drive thru' testing. Pull up in your car, roll the window down, get a swab stuck up your nose. A bit of info exchange and off you go. The worst 'hot spot' right now is a couple of meat processors in Green Bay. They have a couple hundred confirmed cases and a lot more that were potentially exposed. A lot of the test kits are going to those places. I know that the hardest hit places aren't even trying to contact trace or even test all of the symptomatic people. I have heard that the numbers in New York City are likely way, way, way underrepported. For a while, the only 'confirmed dead' were those who had tested positive in a hosptial (the only places actually doing the testing). People who died at home, in the street, or even in the hospitial that died before they could be tested weren't counted. Some of those have now been included in the numbers, but it's still likely way low. I saw a scary story where the total numbers of deaths in NYC for March & April were looked at over the last ten years or so. Prior to this year, those numbers were very stable year to year. This year they are off the chart. This isn't the original story I read, but it's got the same basic info. NYT: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/04/27/upshot/coronavirus-deaths-new-york-city.html But, as I noted, WI is doing a decent job of keeping track of the numbers.

My understanding is that people who are showing symptoms are encouraged to contact their doc. Generally that is by phone or video conference call. They've put out a lot of announcements about not 'just showing up' at the doctor's office or emergency room. But they are strongly encouraging getting in contact and getting proper medical advice (and actual help if needed). Those who the doc (or his staff) think are likely to actually have Covid are often tested. They may or may not see a doctor, most don't go to the hospital. But they are the ones who get approved to be tested. Around here, there is a decent amount of testing, but it's 'doctor directed'. You need a slip from a doc to go to a testing station. I couldn't just go to one and get tested for my own peace of mind. So testing of symptomatic people (the ones who contact a doc) is not lagging too much. I think (and I could be wrong on that) the numbers of infected and symptomatic people is reasonably accurate. However, to safely reopen, we need widespread testing.

So pretending he's smarter than everyone isn't arrogant? That includes the generals going up against ISIS (didn't he say he was going to defeat them in 30 days?) Also the entire Justice Department (wasn't HRC going to be 'locked up'?) The CDC (they were amazed at how he knew everything, but he was unaware that people died from the flu). This list could go on for a very, very long time. He's the eptiome of arrogance. He flouts the rules, breaks the laws, preys on women, cons students, bribes prosecutors, scams banks, uses bankruptcy to fuck over everyone. He made it clear that he cared more about the TV ratings for his 'briefings' than he did about the people that were sick and dying. HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS!?!? Or do you simply choose to ignore it?
-
I would guess that with the level of awareness during this, everyone knows what the symptoms are. ANYONE who gets sick is going to pretty much automatically assume it's Covid and seek help. Unlike, say, the flu, where most people who get sick just stay home and wait it out. So the idea that there are large numbers of undetected cases isn't really logical. There may well be decent numbers of infected people who aren't showing any symptoms, however. Those people are being 'kept in check' by the lockdown. Once it gets lifted, those folks will go out and infect others. That will make the numbers skyrocket. Very few people who actually know what they are talking about are advocating lifting restrictions until widespread testing is in place. Just the business owners who are more afraid of losing business than infecting customers. And the idiots with guns.

Ahh. Gotcha. I missed the part where it was claimed that Flynn didn't lie. But trying to get Marc to show sources for his ridicuous 'claims' are about as realistic as trying to get Turtle to admit he was wrong.
