It's the government, it doesn't have to make sense.
Hooknswoop replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
No, I read it, you tried to imply that it couldn’t be done by saying; They could have made it easier by making a larger TFR that would encompass the TFR they wanted but centered on a nav-aid. Of course, then pilots would be wining that the FAA made the TFR overly-large to unnecessarily center it on a nav-aid and they are ‘very capable of navigating around a TFR thankyouverymuch.’ Having delt with pilots for the past 2 ½ years, I have found most of them to be prima-donna cry-babies with inflated egos that start to whine if they aren’t treated like royalty. It would matter how the FAA did the TFR, they would whine about it. The cool pilots shrug their shoulders, go around the TFR like a professional, and it doesn't bother them. Derek -

The man is holding us down I have flown around a lot off different controlled airspaces of all different shapes and sizes and always managed to remain clear if that was my goal. With a mapping GPS and a sectional, you can see where the TFR and you are to remain clear very easily. As a pilot, you are supposed be able to navigate. Mark the TFR on your map, pay attention to where you are, give yourself a buffer between you and the TFR and you won't have any problems. No big deal. Child's play for a competent pilot. Derek -
I ride a sportbike and don't bother waving at cruisers anymore. If they wave, I'll wave back, but 95% of the time, if I wave, they don't wave back. Probably 95% of other sportbike risers wave back. Derek

The thread isn't just about the title, I was replying to the text of the first post, not just the title, which my comment pertained to. Derek

Which has what to do with some British guy thinking he is a second class citizen and wants China to be the next superpower so that the US isn't? Derek
-
I don't think your countrymen would agree that they are second class citizens. I don't think of them, you, or any other country as second class citizens. Sounds like an inferiority complex or something. It also sounds like you want China to be the new superpower just so that the US isn’t. Careful what you wish for, the US may not perfect, but take a good hard look at China. Derek
-
So if China becomes the world's superpower, that will make the US second class citizens to China? Does that mean the rest of the world is currently second class citizens to the US right now? How does it feel to be a second class citizen? Derek

Here is a recent one: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=1926907;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; I don't know everything, but I do know that you haven't quoted an FAR that says you have to have the packing manual to pack a reserve. Derek
-
No, it isn't. You have not quoted an FAR that says you have to have the manual to pack a reserve. Derek
-
I am reading the FAR's at face value, not reading into them or twisting them. You have yet to show where the FAR's say you must have the manual to back up your posistion that you must have the manual. I think we all agree that you should have the manual and use it, that is not in question. You think it is an FAA requirement, but cannot quote an FAR that says it is. Derek

You can do pretty much what you want even if you are USPA affiliated. Derek -
Teaching with an expired rating
Hooknswoop replied to mikew02's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually it was made when reserves were made of nylon. It used to be 60-days before that. As for the original question, you have to understnad that this is skydiving. People don't really care about the rules, and by bringing this sort of thing up, you alienate yourself from the 'group'. Nothing is going to happen to them, people do AFF in the US without ever having had an AFFI rating everyday. Let it go, you'll be better off. Derek -
So we shouldn't discuss the FAR's? If I recall, didn't you misundertsand the Current FAR 65.111? Derek
-
Of course, but the question was about the FAR's. According to the FAR's, you just have to understand the instructions. Derek

I think it depends on the canopy. I've tossed them on a Fury 220 and didn't have a problem, but like you said, it can cause a problem on other canopies. I wonder what the difference is? Derek

Doesn't dissappoint me at all. You too

Don Yahrling Memorial this weekend in Deland

I also agree that the best way to give me a black eye is to hit me int he face, but that doesn't mean I think you should. Then we agree, it is not an FAR. It is not a regulation that you must have the manual to pack a reserve. I have not changed my mind on who may alter a main canopy acording to the FAR's, in fact I have prepared another letter tot he FAA, which I will send registered mail this time. Derek
-
Thanks Bill, very true. Some canopies will react that way. Derek
-
It is a very viable option. Look at the line-over mod for BASE. Toss the steering lines and fly the rear risers. Works fine. Derek

Do have a reason for your dislike of Slinks? Derek

OK, I read it again, really good, and still couldn't find an FAR that says you have to have the manual to pack a reserve. Do you have a reference to a FAR that says you have to have the manual to pack a reserve? If it isn't an FAR, the it isn't a regulation. Oh, and I agree that you should have the manual and I think it should be an FAR. But it isn't. I also think there should be an FAR that says you cannot pack under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but there isn't. You could always call the FAA and make a formal complaint against me. Again. Of course the FAA sided with me last time.. Derek
