It's the government, it doesn't have to make sense.
Hooknswoop replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
If they violate the TFR, they pay the consequences. Just like if they violate controlled airspace. Knowing where you are and what is around you is basic airmanship. If a pilot is not capable of navigating around a TFR, they need refresher training. If they can’t do it, then they should not be a pilot. If they can’t do it unless it is centered on a VOR and they have DME, then they need refresher training. The task of navigating around a TFR is well-within the standards to be a private pilot. If a pilot says they can’t do it or it is too hard, then they are admitting that they do not posses the necessary skills to be a private pilot. Derek -

Funny that you are willing to throw out the number when it works in your favor, but can't be bothered if it doesn't. If you are complaining about a 36% increase in area a 5-mile buffer would create, then I'm sure you would complain about a similar increase in area caused by centering the TFR on a nav-aid. In other words, there is no pleasing you, you are going to complain regardless. There is a practical method, mark the TFR on your map, know where you are at all times, and stay out of it. So not only is there a practical method of complying, there is a very simple one that pilots should employ on every flight. Derek -
This thing all things devour: Birds, beasts, trees, flowers; Gnaws iron, bites steel; Grinds hard stones to meal; Slays king, ruins town, And beats high mountain down. What is it? Derek

You want to get from point "A" to point "B". You come to a a fork in the road and do not know the correct direction to go. There are 2 people there. One always lies, the other always tells the truth. You do not know which is which. You can ask one of them one question. What do ask to find out which way to go? Derek

Nah, more of a random thought. Take it for what it's worth, that's all. Derek

You misunderstand. Again, I know the US isn't perfect. I am well aware of it and I am routinely pissed to hear/read about some of the things that happen in the US. It is my opinion that one of the things that makes the US great is the right to free speech. That is all. Don't read into it anything else. I am not a tunnel-visioned, flag waving, love it or leave it type of person. Derek

No, it is proof that we can openly criticize the government. Like I said the US isn't perfect, but there are a lot of countries that you would have been shot or arrested for what you have said. All I am saying is that I think the US is a great country and one of the reasons is free speech. If you don't agree, that is OK. You can disagree as much as you like and that is great. Agree with me, disagree with me, express your opinion.

Then you agree with everyone that has posted in this thread. Everyone agrees you should have the manual. Derek

How much % bigger would the TFR be if it covered the same area, plus the extra area to center it on the nav-aid? Derek -
And at the same time, proved it to be true. Derek

I took it to mean that if writing your congressman fails, then vote them out. I could very well be wrong though. You have a good track history of doinf exactly that, i.e. "Blame the victims." Derek

How much % bigger would the TFR be if it covered the same area, plus the extra area to center it on the nav-aid? Do you think pilots would complain about the larger, nav-aid centered TFR? Derek -

Would you prefer a larger TFR centered on a nav-aid? Derek -
I know the US is far from perfect, but it is awesome that the citizens can openly criticize the government without fear of reprisal. Derek
-
No, but you congress is your representative within the government and can address issues such as this on your behalf. If they fail to do so, you can express your displeasure with their performance by voting for someone else. This is H.S. level government stuff. Derek

The statement is misleading in that it make it appear that a pilot is being set up for failure because their instruments won't display the TFR. That only tells part of the story. As a pilot, you know that, but chose to to leave out the rest of the story. Would you prefer a larger TFR centered on a nav-aid? Derek
