Go to the park. Roll the parachute in the sandbox for a while. Then pack in the shade. Seriously, a little dust/dirt on the material goes a long way. :::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!

I do not own a Tandem Rig. I jump at DZ's that have gear on which I am rated. Therefore, I keep my Vector, Eclipse, and Sigma ratings current. If the DZ jumps different Tandem rigs, I either do AFF or just fun jump because I am not in a hurry to get my Strong or Racer ratings. Some people do own tandem rigs and the DZ does pay extra for the gear "rental". However, most DZ's want you to use the DZ gear and you are just stuck with your rig sitting on the ground. :::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Correctly made mini 3-ring riser pictures
TEB6363 replied to billbooth's topic in Safety and Training
Thank you Bill, that was the information I was looking for -
Here is what I tell students. If you are under 1,000 feet - DO NOT CUT AWAY. This is assuming you are flying pretty stable and are not spinning fast or something strange. You can always deploy your reserve if you feel that more material over your head would be better than what is up there causing a problem. Now, as Bill said, you should not be down to 1,000 feet and still have problems over your head. You should be in or beginning your landing pattern. With more experience you can decide on your own what to do below 1,000 feet with a bad canopy. But for a low-time jumper, you would be safe to be pretty conservative with the canopy down low. :::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!

Correctly made mini 3-ring riser pictures
TEB6363 replied to billbooth's topic in Safety and Training
Mr. Booth. Thanks for posting the riser information. I had a question about using mini rings on a container with the large ring attachment (the good old 2-inch rings on the container). I ordered my rig with the large rings because I wanted to be able to switch to type 8 risers if I wanted to. I like the feel and size of mini risers (type 17), so I currently jump a special made set of risers. I have the larger 3-ring setup (usually assembled on type 8 risers) on my type 17 mini risers. I had this done because it feels like there is a lot less tension on the 3-ring while it is attached to the large ring on the rig. Would this setup help to keep the pull tension down in a spinning mal?? The setup feels very smooth when I test the 3-ring and it looks like there is less binding. But I wondered if you had seen (probably) or tested this setup. Thanks Bill. Tom Berg D-16363, AFFI2002, Sigma Tandem Rated and LOVE the Rig -
Your rigger should be able to make the extension out of tubular nylon or type 17 webbing (bridle material). You do not need a ring on one end, just a loop and you put a larks head knot at one end. I just went to the local climbing shop and got a "Super Sling" which the climbers also call a dog bone. It is a 10-inch tubular nylon loop that is 3/4-inch wide and secured with 5 bar tacks. With the larks head knot it ends up being about 6.5 inches long and puts the french link to my kill-line pilot chute in the center of the bag. I also put a soft bumper over the french link (just like some people do on their risers) to keep canopy material out from between the link and the extension. I know this is not the "riggers" description you were asking about, but it works great. There are two or three at the DZ that use these "super slings." :::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Lisa, I'm no expert, but I got my first bootie (not boobie) suit last year after over 1K jumps without. I gave myself about 50 jumps to learn how to fly with them. The best thing was that I went back and paid for some jumps with a RW coach. I don't know if you know Aldo? We worked, and re-worked my body position until my back was killing me. Some basics, fly with the pelvis down a little more (like the mantis position), remember to bend a knee down a little more than sticking the opposite leg out, and remember to look before you start the move so you can compensate the fall rate a little sooner. Just my thoughts and some experience. :::OK, Canopy is Open, No Traffic Around, .. Why are these "Extra" Lines Draping Down??, Damn!
