  1. Imagine a shoulder width clock on the ground with your feet on 9 and 3. Now with small hops put them on 8 and 2 and then on to 7 and 1.... Now move them one click at a time back clockwise all the way to 11 and 5. You should learn how to fly your legs in everyone of these positions. This was one of my first lessons from the great Mike Ortiz and it has shaped the way I look at leg flying. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

Lets take this discussion to the post "Xman & Daffy" I'll post this in both. Imagine a shoulder width clock on the ground with your feet on 9 and 3. Lets keep in mind that neither position is "better" in that both leg positions have their place and time. I also fly naturaly in a lazy daffy, but my legs adjust when the fallrate changes one way or the other. Just to lend my experience in how I learned. I first learned the xman position and got somewhat stable in it. The problem was that I weighed 200+ without gear and could not control my speed. I then switched DZs to one with alot more freeflyers and they all used big daffy positions falling real slow. So I had to then learn daffy just to fall with these guys. After doing 3-4 hundred jumps like this I started watching the "big" guys on video and heard that Olav's ball falls in the high 160's and realized we were falling way to slow with these leg positions. I had also lost alot of weight. I had to go back and re-learn the xman to increase my speed. I now mainly fly with a very relaxed daffy position which puts me at the right speed most of the time. I think that we should probably teach leg position according to jumper weight, what do you think about that? Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

IMHO, I have to agree that learning frog/xman leg position is the best for beginers. Not only is it easier to learn, it increases the speed which helps for more stability. Xman legs should be used as the neutral position and daffy in order to slow fall rate as needed. A fat daffy is hard to fly as the speed gets slower. Of course this may vary with larger jumpers who have trouble falling slow. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292
  5. Yes we are planning on a few bigways on Sunday so you must stay. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292
  6. I'm for limiting car access to anything that we can. Petroleum engines polute any environment they are in. Humans think we can drive our snowmobiles through mountain habitat, our cars through beach and woodland habitat. Other things live on this earth and we must give them the room. Galveston has been the most discusting beach I've ever been to. Trash, oil blobs, disembowled fish and sea animals. People have no respect for nature and it's particularly bad in Texas. I love doing that camera step sit exit. It took me a couple weekends to get down though cuz it's a very weird exit and you have to have very positive legs at the right time or you will get flipped one way or the other. I was ending up on my belly or back until I found the balance. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292
  11. Between visting the pawn shop to pay my rent and not being able to drive to meet my ride to go down there I regretably could not make it to the FreeflyFest. To everybody who was expecting me I offer my sincere appologies. I'm very bummed that things did not work out in my favor. I will see you guys at Dallas, or the Freefly comp in San Marcos. 14. Coach jumps with an instructor followed by solos to practice the skills. After the basics I believe 2ways with someone of similar skill is the best. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

    Sad day

Alot of people talk out of there ass without thinking about it. About 6 years ago I had a friend murdered in the Video store where he worked that was right across from the music store I was working at the same night. Well about a month ago I was in that video store renting a video with Deva and while we were at the counter there was another man who was pissed cuz the teller was too slow and didnt get something right. He blurts out "That's why the people who work here asked to get shot and killed" or something like that. That dumb MF didnt even realize who he was saying that around. If he would have said that a few years ago before I changed my ways he would have has his ass whooped in the parking lot. He heard the coment that I made and stormed out. He wouldnt even look me in the eyes as I passed him. Goat Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

  21. Money DOES NOT make the talent. I know 2 more people in the exact same situation. 4 years in the sport, one has 700+ the other has 2000+. The one with 700+ jumps stayed at the same progression rate as the one with 2000 jumps in the same time period. Progression lies with the individual and his talents not soley on the # of jumps or money for coaching. I've seen people dump money into coaching in all disciplines and they still suck. 22. Ok, Here are some things you can start working on that will help with your AD. I used these in preperation for my test. First, use a partner who is rock solid and can fly a straight column of air all the way down on his/her head. Use them as the base. Or you can do these on your own and practice them on solos before you try them with somebody else. Just stick your arm out there like you are going to dock and you will feel the reaction. 1.Fly relative on head level with your partner. There must be no carving or heading changes. You should be able to do this all the way until breakoff. 2.Dock with your partner. You should fly this hand dock for a least 5+ seconds. Once you learn to fly the dock learn to bring the other hand in for a a double hand dock(this is tricky.) 3. Do 360 turns, cartwheels, front/backflips relative to your partner. you should be able to do each of these manouvers. These are the basic skills for the test. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292
  23. Check out the new Freefly Organizing board that I put up this weekend out at Skydive Dallas in the freefly corner. It should make it easier to see who is coaching and organizing for the day. Ask me questions and I will always be willing to help. My advice at the DZ is always free for the asking. BTW, I've seen you do enough freefly jumps to call yourself a freeflyer :) Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

  25. RACERS ARE FREEFLY DEATHTRAPS!!! Unless you enjoy floating toggles and brakelines trailing behind you. I've seen it happen on video and to a friend so this is what has formed my opinion about them. Now I cant speak for the newest models because I have not looked at them myself. AADs- necessary but not mandatory. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292
