Well M, One cool dive to practice for the AD is to go out with a partner and face off. One person does a 360 transition while the other stays still acting as a base. The person completes the transition, adjusts his proximity making sure he is back on head level with the base person. He then points at the base person to switch and the roles are reversed. Do this with all the transitions 360, cartwheel, front/back flip. You can also add docks between each transition instead of a finger point. ___________________________________________________ In response to: Poster: grosfion Subject: Re: What do you pay for freefly coaching? That's pretty cool I'm jealous. Could you tell me how you were training for the AD rating and how you got it? thanks M Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

I may have picked up a slot a time or two but have never paid for a coach jump. When I first started jumping I made freinds with the local freeflyers and picked up advice from them. They were cool enough to jump with me a few times and teach me all the basics on the ground. "They" being mostly Dusty Smith who's now at Elsinore. BIG UPS PIMP-D!! Training for advanced skills like my AD rating has mostly come from the hundreds of 2ways I did with my teammate Raymond Adams. We learned most of our skills by using each other as a base. I've been extremely lucky that I found someone to mentor me, and another to jump with me 500+ times. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

I've seen people spend their own money coaching others and I've also seen outrageous price gouging. I'd like to see what you guys think is fair. How much have you paid for a freefly coach jump? cover the slots? $100? What do you think a fair price is for a quality coaching jump? Please include the region you're in. Which freefly suit would you all recommend?
FreeflyGoat replied to airdrew20012001's topic in Freeflying
The sturdiest suits I've seen out there are FireFly suits. They are the bomb. I own a pair of freedommeanschoice pants myself. The custom work Karen did for me was great and the pants look ultra-cool. But, the first pair did not fit me and I had to pay extra to have them remade to fit :( It was a bummer to have to pay extra. I studied the subject for weeks before I made my decision. I also based my decision on the fact that I'd pulled the reserve handle myself twice before I chose to take it off. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

I took mine off when it made a very direct effort at trying to kill me. It deployed my reserve way before I would have prefered it to deploy. You dont think about disconnecting it during a high speed malfunction. I think they are great for the inexperienced skydiver who may have a greater tendency to panic in an emergency situation. But for the experienced skydiver who has handled situations before I think it has more disadvantages. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

Hi Ann :) You can't beat your RSL unless you pull both handles at the same time. I thought I did but afterwards I found that I shurely did'nt. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

What is your favorite freefly container and why?
FreeflyGoat replied to FreeflyGoat's topic in Freeflying
The only thing I'll say about the Vectors are that I've seen riser covers popped off on the ground and in the plane. Most people dont have a problem with it but I've seen brand new rigs that had a riser cover that would pop out occasionaly. The Mirage is the only container that I have never seen any flaps open at all. Not once. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292 -

I have to say the people I've talked to that have Voodoos love the harness. I like the features but I don like the looks. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292 -

You get what you pay for. The harware Mirage uses is all premium sh*t. They pay 10dollars when competitors pay 2cents for hardhousing endings. They pay triple for the extra thick padding you get compared to the rest. Yes you end up paying more but it kicks the crap out of the others. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292 -

I seem to have at least 2 gripes about every other container system out except for Mirage. Including the ones considered the best freeflying rigs. Vector, Wings, VooDoo, Racer, Javelin. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292 -

FreeflyGoat replied to FreeflyGoat's topic in Freeflying
What is your favorite freefly container system out there and why do you like it? With all the new designs out there i'd like to see everybody's opinion. I'll start out saying that I would not trade my Mirage for anything. From the superior hardware to the most advanced freefly safe bridle, pin, riser coverage. It has a comfortable fit that rivals the most comfortable rigs out there and looks sleeker than the others. Of course this is only my opinion so I'd like to hear yours. If they cant perform those skills then they have no business jumping with more than 3 people. Goat aka Dereck aka SuperFreak AD A#292

Advice for first time Stilletto owner
FreeflyGoat replied to airdrew20012001's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
My opinionated advice: Learn to fly the f*ck outa that canopy before downsizing. So many people learn to land and swoop a little then think they have mastered the canopy. Learn to land that thing on a dime in a narrow hallway before going smaller or cross-braced. -
1.anything over a 3-way is a big way. If you dont have 4 jumpers that can freefly an exit and then form a base and hold until breakoff then nobody else except a cameraman has any business exiting with that group. No dockers, NO LURKERS!!!!!!!! 2.Skill level should be determined before the dive takes place. 3. Camera work should be left up to a cameraman on the outside on bigways. Cameras in the base do nothing but distract jumpers from the primary goal of the skydive, and that is to fly your slot not geek the camera. All the footage you end up getting anyways is a close up of Joe Freeflyers nostril passages and a few people zooming in and out of frame. 4.Stagger breakoff when you have a bigway. Outside dockers should be long gone before the base decides to leave. That way people are not fighting for breakoff space. Which oviously happened on this dive. When taking on the duties of an organizer YOU take on the responsibility of everybodys safety on the dive. If an individual in the group makes a bad decision it reflects back on YOU as an organizer, IF you did not provide everyone on the dive with a safe plan. FreeflyGoat AD-A#292
