Before I went back to school for nursing, I was in the office furniture business.( building office cubicles) When I started in 1990 the entry level pay was on average 13-14 dollars per hour. When I left in 2000, the average starting wage was 9-10 an hour. with the majority of workers now being illegal. This is true with many of the blue collar jobs in California.

Play the race card, always the easy way out. To say that I am racist is just a bit insulting. I have watched our schools go from tops in the country to almost dead last (New England states rank the highest) Why is it racist to suggest that we can not educate every child that is here illegally? When it comes to my children I tend to be a bit selfish. The amount of money we spend in California on education is staggering, with a good portion of that going to educate the "undocumented" About ten years ago when my Daughter was 8, her school had a fund raiser. She worked her butt off hawking candy and wrapping paper only to find out that all the money would go to a Hispanic cultural center at her school. When the parents of non-Hispanic children complained, take a guess what they were called? This school was also one of the poorest performing schools in California as a large portion of the school was ESL, diverting much needed resources from English speaking children. I don't give a flying rats ass about the color of a persons skin, but we can no longer let anyone who wishes come to this country. White, black, brown, yellow or red, they need to do it legally. Let me also clarify that I do not suggest that we don't educate Children that are here illegally. It is not their fault. California just can not absorb the amount that continue to flood in, we need to stop them at the border.

With all the tension at live oak, the high school here in morgan hill, it is not hard to see why some students could get a bit fed up. Hispanics in the schools here are in the majority, and some of them make it no secret that Cailfornia really belongs to Mexico. I know, I had to do that in Ohio, New York, Illinoise,Missouri, and Tennessee back when I was a teen and traveling the country....worked out in my favor though, I got a bed and three meals for a day! It's an open secret that drivers get stopped by police for "DWB" violations - "Driving While Black". Except in the southern border states, especially AZ now, it's "Driving While Brown". As I stated, they cannot legally stop you for looking brown, they can make up a mulitude of reasons why they did stop you. My point was that to say, to state that the law lets you stop anyone who is brown, to check there papers is incorrect. If I was a Hispanic citizen of Arizona I would try and get picked up, and have no proof of my legal status on me. If they then detained me I would sue the fuck out of them

Agree or disagree with the new law but don't make it into something it is not. Law enforcment cannot (legally) stop you for just looking brown, they must first have reasonable cause that you committed a crime.( other than immigration status) To think that a law, that gave the police the power to stop anyone, for anything is just silly. Such a law would never be constitutional and that is why Arizona made sure to put into the law when and how people can be questioned so it has a chance to stand up in court.
