ACTUAL: Jump numbers before flying a Camera
stratostar replied to bomb420's topic in Photography and Video
It's real simple, I was being stupid. And I didn't/don't feel like typing that much. On one we had been getting out high 13k all day and towards the end of the daylight we got out a 9K and my internal clock was not used to that, yet even knowing we were out low I still failed to stay aware and filpped over to get the opening of the TDM, well the TM smoked it down to 3K, when I rolled back over to dump I was wizzing thru 1200 feet. (this way before everyone had beeping things or AAD's) And like a dumbass I dumped my main that snivels a good 500 to 800 feet. Let's just say the red barn right below me was really fucking big! The second also was getting to into getting the shot and opening very low. The TDM was a very tall guy with his mom on a vector, when the trap door happened (I was very ready for it) he pulled in his arms and stuck out his legs (seen in the video) and tracked under me as the main was deploying, I barrel rolled to the left and just missed hitting them. In short even tho I was ready for the trap door, I got caught with me pants down and in the wrong place at the wrong time, pretty simple stuff really, flying cameras is NOT JUST ANOTHER SKYDIVE! (to the rookies) Have your shit together way more expert jumpers have gone in long before you showed up as the new hot shot on the block with your mad skills and fancy flying and pretty matching gear. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

ACTUAL: Jump numbers before flying a Camera
stratostar replied to bomb420's topic in Photography and Video
Less then a 100 (80) and it was really really stupid in hindsight, in fact I almost killed myself twice and almost killed a tandem once all before 150 jumps. There are many good reasons why the numbers and advice are what they are and I would tell anyone who says, "well you did it and lived, I should be fine" that they are stupid and playing with fire and I won't jump with them. But what the fuck dose it really matter anymore we have idiot proofed the sport to a point that monkey's with no jumps and his head up his ass could do it and live, so if you want to be a retard and some greedy DZO will let um film TDM's without the exp. needed, let um go ahead do it, they might live or they might make it to a front row seat on the bounce tour and if they take out a TDM doing it, oh well, you pay your money and take your chances.......right? I think that's what I see so many people post/say about other types corner cutting, and besides that nothing like a good bounce story in the news to get the DZ phone ringing. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Well I wasn't there so I can't comment on that riggers statements. I have a number of saves with dolphins packed both ways. I also have had a client go to another dz in the area and have a person tell them I was fuck in the head and closed their rig wrong and they shouldn't use me as their rigger anymore, because the rig was closed with the bottom flap on top of the PC like a Javelin. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

And it looks better too. Mark, your right, but there is a lot of room placing it where the manual says to place it (if done right) so I see no reason to place under the bottom flap, but I guess some might by reading the note from Mike. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

So you been up to the farm and drank the water...did ya? My boy has 10 jumps and only 3 of those are after the news, my wife stopped on her own because it's not worth the risk to us. Now Sandy (Hans wife) was jumping up to 8 mos? I've known a number of ladies over the years that have done it, how much extra risk to your child are you willing to force upon it and is that fair to your child and family? you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I had one and it was the biggest POS, if you get any air in your line even for 100th of a second the heat coils will blow and the one we had it was 30 bucks a coil and there were 3, the city would open the lines once a year and we would come home not knowing the lines had been open and pop goes the coil, and there not something you go replace @ Lowes, no you go to call the factory for a replacement, long story short, we have a new tank and got rid of the 700.00 dollar POS tankless. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

You will find great instruction at all the USPA dropzones in the area. The non USPA dz was kicked out of USPA for life for a number of reasons, one of those being the use of non rated instructors and have been known to "make up" their own ratings. Well 550 is strong as hell and he had a lot of to work with, it would depend on how he used it and how it was "maybe" attached to him on exit, I see no reason he could not have left with his back to the RW feet first and tumbled thru the exit till he slowed down and then deployed. That Mighty Mouse, he's one tough cookie! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

I agree. I would even say it's ok to use some of my tax payer dollars to pay for the jump, then again I'm sure they give him one free if he has the balls to do it for the PR. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Yea Jerry, Mickey was pissed off Minnie flashed her boobs to Mighty Mouse as he rode by on his harley flashing gang signs and sporting shades, and that Minnie, what a ho she turned out to be, met up with that sneaky Might Mouse at the road house, when she went for "coffee" and drove by the road house and saw that Harley sitting at the road house bar, next to "sea tac" and being the bad part of town and all, that tramp Minnie split with Mighty Mouse on the back of that Harley showing tits to everyone in the parking lot. Mickey was pissed now and hatched his evil plan to get that Mighty Mouse and get him good, he left no trail of droppings or finger prints and took NWA for a cool 200K, just enough to buy his and her harley's and half a ton of blow, he got all tweeked out and on his way to Telluride met a new dame Squeaky Mouse and they rode off into history to never be seen again. Rumor has it they are in Ixtapa running a dz and moving kilos to the gringos. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
What Major Boogies are left?
stratostar replied to Thanatos340's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It was "the boogie" as in the first one to coin the term "boogie", yes it was "Richmond revisited" after the big ban by the city from the fall out of the 79 nationals when a bunch of USPA BOD members trashed the hotel they stayed in and other stuff. In 87 the Stewart's got the green light to host a boogie again from the city of Richmond and they called it "Richmond revisited", now some 20 years later the original name has found it's ways back into use, many people host boogies, but there is only one "The boogie" 21st year coming up this summer of non stop hosting by the Stewart's. FWIW The very first one was in 72 and it ran up in till 79. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

WHY even bring up then? You say you not here to play games and antagonize people! Yet you then post such crap as statements like above. I ask you again why? Who the hell do you think is reading that crap and will have a light bulb go off in their head? Agent Carr? Some other little old lady DW was dating or married to way back then who has had the big clue all these years and didn't know it till she read your BIG HINT because she is here reading your banter of beating around the bushes with tid bits of hint's and it all now becomes clear to her, yea the big crime sleuth put it all together after all these years and FBI man hours. Yet you duck and dodge and offer VERY LITTLE of proof to back your claim and when I called you on it, you get all upset about it! Hey I'm NOT the one who yelled in public DB COOPER, DB COOPER, you did! And anyone who says other wise is "picking on you" and being mean to you. Again you SOUND like a nut case, now that is not saying you are a nut case! But try stepping back and looking at the bigger picture here at your repeated talking in clues-hints and beating around the bush, all the while you tout how bad your health is and how you don't have much time to waste, yet you seem to see fit to waste our time with your bullshit hints and clues that NO ONE knows what the hell your talking about! If you really wanted the truth to be known then you STOP the bullshit and just lay it all out there in a factual manner and be able to back up what your saying, you know I have been more then willing to defend you and cover your back, but no longer Jo, your the one who shoots yourself in the foot in regards to the public and this is why so many people think your nuts, you did that to yourself by how you present your info or should I say lack there of. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -

Well I still jump rigs made in the early 60's and they haven't failed yet and guess what, my life is depending on it every time I jump it, I have no fear of my gear. Your lack of understanding what is good old gear is what drives your fear. There is a lot of good used gear less then 20 years old around to be found and even some real nice closet queens too in the 15 to 20 year range comes along once in awhile. Just because it's old don't mean it no good! Try not to buy the worn trash you see out in CA thats two years old, look in the midwest. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
