  1. We did an in depth discussion on exit separation with Bill Von Novak on Skydive Radio #46. You can check it out here Show #46 Skydive Radio
  2. Judy, It sounds like you're willing to call the feds even though the pilot in question and others will know it was you. If this is correct, why not approach the pilot first and talk to him about your concerns. Give him an opportunity to fix the situation on his own before you involve the FAA. I think calling the FSDO should be your last option not your first. -Dave Skydive Radio
  3. Norman Kent's film Willing to Fly has a great segment with Frightful the falcon. Not sure if this is some of the same footage because it's been awhile since I saw the film. I do know there were more and better shots of the falcon in Willing to Fly though. Skydive Radio
  4. Thank you to all who posted questions and to dropzone.com for allowing us to use the forums for this purpose. The interview went a bit long so it will be split in half and released over the next two shows. The first half will be available for download tomorrow at www.skydiveradio.com Skydive Radio
  5. Please stay on track. The purpose of this thread is to gather questions. Brian is a smart guy. If some of the questions are leading or bias I think he can still make an intelligent conversation from them. If you have a question of your own for Brian please feel free to add it. We will hit them all. Skydive Radio
  6. Skydive Radio is recording another question and answer session with Brian Germain this weekend. Questions can be posted here until 6:00pm central time on Sunday, Jan 14th. The main topic will be canopy design but any skydiving related questions are welcome. Skydive Radio
  7. Cool airplane but is it really that common for a jumpship? Skydive Radio
  8. Sorry. I've not done any jumping on your side and you know how we Americans are.... Skydive Radio
  9. I'm sure I missed a bunch but I think these are the most common at least in the US. Skydive Radio
  10. I don't doubt that is the case for larger aircraft ie turbine or multi. But if he is just starting out he will probably be looking for a Cessna operator. I know we have put several pilots on our insurance over the years with fresh commercials and well under 500 hours. Skydive Radio
  11. Sharing the cost is the operative phrase. Any argument for private pilots flying for clubs is a grey area at best. Weather or not you are being paid as the pilot really doesn't matter. You still have customers paying money to be on that flight. Also, I have heard of some FSDO's claiming that the hours you are building are "compensation". In the US the commercial ticket requires a minimum of 250 hours. The insurance requirement is usually commercial pilot and 25 hours in type. I have never heard of a 500 hour requirement to get into a 182 or 206. Skydive Radio
  12. Does anyone have an email or phone number for Al Krueger? I would like to contact him about a possible Skydive Radio interview. Thanks. -Dave Skydive Radio
  13. That's really all I was trying to get across. The original poster could have been much more tactful with his timing and wording. Skydive Radio
  14. Holy shit people they got drunk after their friend went in. Nobody else in Twin Falls is ever out of line? The manager, employees and customers at the Outback have so much political pull that they are somehow going to shut down base jumping there because someone got drunk and loud? I understand that the base jumpers need to be respectful to the other residents but lets keep this in perspective. People get drunk and loud all the time for lesser reasons or none at all. Someones close friend dies and they get a bit loud in a restaurant and now you're calling for their names to be posted here to somehow blacklist them? This thread may have some useful comments in it about what is necessary to keep your site open but it's timing is total fucking bullshit. Try to have the smallest amount of empathy for what these folks are going through and keep what is in reality a fairly small incident in perspective. You may do something you regret someday too. Skydive Radio
  15. Well said. I wasn't there but I do know that different people deal with things in different ways. Do you really want to be the person to judge them? Skydive Radio
  16. His album "Passion" (the Last Temptation of Christ soundtrack) is one of my 3 desert island albums. Different from much of his other work but an absolute masterpiece. In fact I'm going to have to listen to it right now. Thanks for the reminder
  17. Adult movies about skydiving....hmmm....stay tuned. Skydive Radio
  18. [qoute]Those guys are pretty good players. Only once have I managed to finish in the upper half of the field... You're sure that means everyone else is a good player eh? Skydive Radio
  19. [qoute]Now I have the silly jingle for dropzone of the month stuck in my head. Glad to hear our plan is working. If you play it backwards at 1/2 speed it says "Send us beer and boobie pictures". Skydive Radio
  20. I come from a club dropzone where the pilots don't get paid so efficiency has never been what bothers me about go-arounds. My concern with them has always been what if someone in the first group opens high? Now you are in a situation where if you do a quick turn around you are dumping the next group on top of the first. I've always tried to reduce this risk by offsetting the second jump run but what if someone opened high and then flew off the wind-line? It has always made me nervous and I tend to encourage jumpers not to do go-arounds unless it is absolutely necessary. -Dave Skydive Radio
  21. Brian Germain will be joining us on Skydive Radio next week for a listener question and comment driven show.
