  1. I hate that my long time poker nemesis will no longer be there to play. I had not taken part in the tourney for several months until last week and that was only because Lee transfered funds so I could play. I transfered the money back to him on Tuesday not 2 hours before I got the call. This sucks so bad. First GFD, then Ganja, and now Shrek. Skydive Radio
  2. Because I don't want to sexually discriminate, I gladly accept titties or tequila (no Quervo you cheap fuckers...square bottles only...Patron, Don Julio, Cabo Wabo etc) Skydive Radio
  3. Just read the page one add in December 07 Parachutist. Anyone familiar with this company? Skydive Radio
  4. I was thinking the same thing. Pistons and turbines both have to be operated correctly. To say one is "more difficult" than the other might be a bit of a stretch. To say one is more costly than the other is not. As for requiring 1000 hours to get into an Otter, think about it this way. Bend up a 182 and the insurance company is looking at 50-60K for the airplane and 5 possible injuries/fatalities. Bend up an Otter and they are looking at closer to a million for the airplane and 24 possible injuries/fatalities so it's not hard to understand why they want those pilots to have more experience. edit for quote. 5. I wish you could create personalized rss feeds for forum search results kind of like you can do on digg for news searches. Then anytime someone posts something new that matches one of your searches it would show up in your feeds. That would be too cool. Skydive Radio
  6. Hey Rob, Not sure about this winter but if you can wait till spring or want to do some more coaching then you can do it at SDC with Rook or Mike, both world champions and the rates are reasonable. Less than 6 hours from Omaha plus you can get drunk with me at the Tiki Bar in the evenings. -Dave Skydive Radio

  8. Sorry about the long delay between shows. The last month has been crazy busy for us and we just have not had the time to put a new show together. As soon as life slows back down to a somewhat normal pace we will get back on track with SDR. Until then, drink a beer or 6 and surf dropzone.com for your skydiving fix -Dave Skydive Radio
  9. I can back Kip up on that statement. I have watched him teach several courses and individual students this year and his style is thorough yet relaxed. -Dave Skydive Radio
  10. You make a good point about choice being a good thing. I'm only saying that when neighboring dz's support each others events it makes for a better atmosphere overall in the area. I know I always enjoyed jumping with fun jumpers and staff from the other area dz's that I didn't spend my normal weekends at. Skydive Radio
  11. I spent several weeks flying at the dz you're talking about this spring and have had many lengthy conversations with the director in question about USPA stuff. I firmly believe that he is trying to do what is best for the future of the sport. His main goal is to train good skydivers and instructors and at that he is very capable. As for the board needing to work together, this is true, but it is equally important for individual board members to stand up and say "this is bs" when it is. The "good ol' boy" syndrome another poster mentioned in this thread is alive and well at the board level as well and I don't mind seeing someone in there to shake it up a bit. As for scheduling an event the same weekend as the Richmond Boogie I agree that is foolish. The fun jumpers are the ones that lose because they are forced to choose. It would be much better to spread it out so they can attend both events. This would also show a mutual respect between the area dropzones. Where I come from it's not uncommon for neighboring dropzones to all but shut down in support of each others events. This is a win win for everyone and I wish it was more common in other parts of the country. -Dave edit cause I spell like a tard. Skydive Radio
  12. I love this argument. Next time you fly in the airlines hub and spoke system see how many general aviation airplanes you can count at the nations busiest airports. A growing G/A fleet should lower traffic at the busier airports as some of those business travelers go direct to their destination instead of flying into major airports and driving. The only thing that clogs the system at large airports is the airlines own over scheduling practices. Lets see Congress write a bill to stop that. Skydive Radio
  13. Several things are contributing to increased pilot demand right now. The airlines are starting to recover from 9/11 and at the same time many of their Vietnam era pilots are coming up on their forced retirement at age 60. The airlines are also buying more regional jets instead of larger aircraft which means more crews are needed. Business jet sales are also up which will create more pilot demand on the corporate side. And with the introduction of VLJ's there will be other business models emerging that will require many pilots as well. Add to all this the fact that the number of new pilots being certified is down and suddenly the supply and demand scale is tipping in a good direction for pilots. Weather or not this will carry over to dz pay rates remains to be seen, but there are certainly a lot more options for lower time pilots out there now than there were a few years ago when this thread was started. 18. If your focus is training for 4-way isn't landing close and making your back to back more important than swooping for personal enjoyment? Don't get me wrong, I love 270's, but if my job was to train for competition then that would be my primary focus. It sounds like they're trying to make their landing area safer for everyone and to me thats worth having to choose between landing close or walking back from a swoop. Skydive Radio

  20. So says the non-Premier member! Seeing as "RealDropzone™ is currently being beta tested and is not yet generally available", unless I hear otherwise from my peers or higher, I'm going to consider this more informational than advertising. Please, if you are going to waste bandwidth whining about someone else wasting bandwidth, take it to a mod instead! And now we know why his user name isn't green Skydive Radio
  21. Which USPA changes are you referring to and when did they go into effect? When I got my ratings in the mid 90's there was much less involved than there is today. I'm sure there are some course directors out there who are not the greatest, but the last few courses that I've witnessed were incredibly thorough and in my opinion prepare people to be better instructors than in the past. 23. Well we never claimed to be as good on our skydiving "fact checking" as say...CNN Thanks for the correction. Fixed. -Dave Skydive Radio
  24. If he is a Colonel thats my bad. All the information I have ever read refers to him as Capt. Kittinger. Perhaps he was a Capt at the time of the jump but retired as a Colonel? If so can you point me to that information? Thanks. -Dave Skydive Radio
  25. Skydive Radio will be conducting an interview with Col. Joseph Kittinger in the near future. We are very excited to have this opportunity and are welcoming questions from the skydiving community. You can post them here or email them to us at skydiveradio@gmail.com. Many thanks to Jennifer Galbraith (peregrinerose) for putting us in contact with Mr. Kittinger and making this interview possible. Skydive Radio
