  1. mmmm, yes that's probably gonna leave a mark & require something a little significantly stronger than extra strength Tylenol® or Excedrine®. It is getting border line abusive. i agree. & thankfully the u.s. is trying to do away with the steroid use in the sport. which is also unhealthy & dangerous. nowadays too many owners or the trainers are in it for the greed fame & fortune. there was a time not to long ago that a greater number of the owners were in it more for the sport & love & respect for the beautiful majestic animals themselves. a time when they more often considered the potential risks to the animal more sensibly & compassionately, putting the pony's life & longevity as 1st priority. above instant gratification & overnight success. & they listened to & respected the pony's body language & what he was trying to tell them. today they all too often are also pushing the colts far beyond the limitations of the training & conditioning the pony has had to date. needlessly causing the colts untimely breakdown or worse yet, untimely death. go back 2 years to Babaro. a gorgeous colt. true athlete & champion. a solid & powerful as well as intelligent, well bred pony. with a beautiful demeanor & personality. strong healthy. undefeated & still running strong? yes so far . but this was mostly due to the fact that he only had to run like that at the most, once every 5-6 weeks. right up until the start of the triple crown he was only pushed that hard, on tracks that long with just the right balance of recovery time & conditioning time in between. he was only conditioned to run that way once every 1-2 months not weeks. you can not overnight simply decide to say screw it. lets enter him in not one, but all three of the longest most grueling runs known to horseracing all in a 6 week period. without gradually re-conditioning him to be able to run that way safely & in good health. sure i believe Babaro could & would have taken the triple crown in good health that year & had lengthy healthy career to follow. I wanted him to take that triple crown. but i had serious concern for his well-being knowing he only ran at 5-6 week intervals. when i saw the way he acted at the call for loading the gate i knew it was not a good sign) if he had been properly & slowly re-conditioned & trained to run like that every two weeks. he would have been fine & would've pulled it off. but that colt had always walked straight into the gate every time. without any hesitation, or nonsense. confident, calm & reserved & ready to run. every time in the past. the day he went down at the preakness he fought tooth & nail. he did not want to go into that gate. he did not want to run that day. it took nearly 5 full minutes to get, or maybe i should say force him in there this time. he did not feel up to running that race. he was telling them something was wrong. tragically they didn't listen. i do have to give the owners some credit. for at least trying to save his life, in spite of the tremendous expense it entailed & knowing that if he survived his career was over. & not instantly euthanizing him because the dollar signs had vanished into thin air. but overall it is heart-breaking, sinful & unacceptable that the trainer was allowed, to inexcusably push that beautiful animal to such an untimely demise. unfortunately more & more every year, this seem to be becoming the common trend as opposed to the rare isolated tragic incident. 8. happy birthday andrea. may each of your birthday wishes come true. you seem like a truly great person. hope your birthday seems as special as you do. & thank U for the time & advice yesterday. thanks to you i'm definitely doing a tandem 1st.
  9. You're going to come back and tell us all about it, right? hello labrys. of course
  10. hi dennis thank U for the reply encouragement & advice. rolling eyes trying to look innocent -AFF requires the active participation of your cognitive higher powers to ensure that your jump has a happy ending.- (i'm rolling eyes trying to look innocent here) oh yes i better do a tandem first. -Doing the tandem removed a chunk of the total fear of the unknown and allowed me to focus the whole time on what I was doing. that's just one more of many reasons i agree & opted for the tandem. several others were kind enough to offer me the time & advice I was looking for including. the woman who works here at this site & had the article in the Parachutist magazine this month. i think her name is andrea-skymama said the same & gave many other wise pieces of good advice. much like your words they made so much sense. yesterday she convinced me to go for the tandem 1st. several others here including U reinforced that thank U. hope to talk again. maybe even meet some of you at a skydiving ceter or dropzone soon. as for returning the favor. Now I need to get my lazy ass back to Skydive Elsinore to continue and complete my AFF. (I need someone to prod me.) prod prod get your ass out there dennis.

  16. hello & thank u bjjman. i never thought of it that way. there is a small probability you might be right about not liking it but i doubt that big time. i have been doing every type of activity that most people call "crazy" "reckless" "dangerous" "foolish" all my life. at the moment i really cant recall 1 i didnt like. but your right there is a 1st time for everything. i dont think this is it. but you never know.
  17. hello pyrodude i'm curious. i have not made my 1st jump yet. i plan to accomplish this by mid June. yesterday after much internal debate without a definative answer. i made the decision based on some real wise advice i received here in the forum to make my 1st jump a tandem. did you ever do a tandem or static line jump or did you go directly for AFF? 18. from a friend that first got me interested in the sport, he's got a subscription to it. & since i havent shut up about it since i made my mind up to do it. he continues giving me all the information he can like books & mags newspaper articles (real good one in the ny times a few months back) he can find to keep me from bugging him with too many questions. he also told me about this & 2 other websites for skydiving. but i think i like this the best. the others seem i dont know too hard core & more harsh. otherwise i guess i sound & seem as irritating like a 2 year old that just learned how to ask questions why when where how why when where how. sorry if i did the same & asked too many here yesterday. dont want to be a pest. at least i got one thing corrected i'm not typing like i'm texting anymore. just very excited about finally getting to go the distance. didnt mean to annoy anyone. i just have so much curiosity & interest to satisfy. i only wanted to do this the correct way & have as much knowledge as i can gather before i go up to take the leap. sorry to anyone i irritated. is my over excitement going to be as much a problem annoying & alienate me at any dropzone i go to too? i was under the impression the more experienced ones look forward to helping out a newbie with with questions & help.(newbie a word i learned here yesterday along with whuffo which i was told i still am un til after my first jump then i'm a newbie & also official beer sponsor of the related dropzone & skygods) most of the magazine & news articles mentioned that the people in the sport were looking for increased acceptance & understanding of the sport itself & curb the widespread misconceptions & stigmata that untl recently were often associated with it. but i suppose i can see now that i was wrong. & how so many questions could work adversely. so if i'm cursed with this over enthusiasm seriously. should i wait longer to go to take my first lesson & jump? i dont think i can hide my enthusiasm much. never could. will this be as much a problem at a dropzone or skydiving centers? i know i'm doing it again. i will shut up now. but it was a real good article i thought. as good as the ny times one but even better. just seemed more personal. like others in the mags. real & informative coming from a real skydiver with a family & all the personal touches instead of coming from a journalist with a quote or 2 here & there from a skydiving pro or skydiver. ok for real i'm going to shut up. bye thank 2 u & the others for your friendly answers to my questions.
