What state is the property in? Where was the will probated? That would be a start. Unless all the heirs to this property are willing to quitclaim their interest, someone needs to file a partition action. Once that's resolved, if this woman wants to stay in the house, she's going to have to pay everyone off, or the house can be sold. As for taxes, unless it was a very large estate (the amount depends on the year he died, but unless it was quite a few years ago, figure at least a million; last year it was $1.5M, this year it's $2M), or unless the state he lived in has a separate estate tax, you shouldn't have much of an issue with inheritance or gift taxes. There are other issues, but they're relatively minor. You do need a real estate attorney, and it would help if s/he has some expertise in wills, trusts and estates. Edited to add: You can get a ballpark value of the property by checking with the tax assessor in the county where the property is located. I didn't say it was an easy case. I said even a bad lawyer could make a good case (meaning argument) that you have not done all you could. However, the question you ask can be answered just as easily. The internet remains a very new area of the law, and the legal professionals are still working out the kinks. You know, recreational sex without significant emotional investment. A woman I was seeing once introduced me to some of her co-workers. I haven't seen much sexism in this thread, but I'm going to throw some out right here. Men generally say what we actually mean. Women, on the other hand, often say one thing but mean something different. Problems arise when women attribute this same tendency to men. Taking one comment from the post and claiming it's sexist could be done for basically every thread in the Bonfire. The person who made the comment (Walt) was stating his own personal preference, just as I did in my post, just as the ladies are in their own poll on the same subject. Perhaps we should move them both over to SC, or perhaps we could just take it at face value and leave them where they are.
