I'm totally with you Snow. Let's call Larry's bluff and the FBi's claim that it needs Citizen Sleuths. Let's demand they turn over all the DB Cooper files to the public. Let's all help the FBI here. I'm ready and willing to be a full-bodied sleuth! Give me the tools to be one, Mr. Ckret! There you go Snow. There's your research assistant!

You sure know how to end a conversation! Are you and Jo going to sue to have the Easter Bunny banned from schools? And parachutes from all private citizens?

Common Sense Question: Just how the (blank) does anyone think Cooper's money got all the way down the Wahougal and then down the Columbia with 3 packets intact or however many they found - not to mention the 8 yrs or so it would have spent in the water or buried some place? Under the right conditions it could be a fairly quick ride, in a container. As a kid I used to make and float things down small rivers like this. I had a whole arsenal of things I used to try. Some made it, some didnt. Some would get hung up in log piles etc, some would float right over when the water was high. Later we shifted to helium baloons with mice and notes ... then to rockets & guns..

Thanks. Sounds like Hunter S. Thompson wasn't D. B. Cooper. However, there is one curious matter. After Hunter died, his ashes were stuffed in fireworks shells and fired from a gonzo device. According to the shrink Hubbard, hijackers tended to have astronaut, aeronautical or similar fantasies. The photo made me look twice - good photos!

No comment, would only get myself into trouble. Shelly: crack the whip on him from time to time!

Weather conditions at the time of the jump also was considered. Now! knowing how fast the streams and rivers in this area rise and fall during flood stage and how often this happens (flooding) of all the streams and rivers. Most not recorded.Gives me reason to believe that the money had to of come down the Washougal watershed. This above was something I missed until you brought it up. The rapid fill of the Washougal and its tributaries during floods and melts - the fact loggers used this trait to move logs down to the Columbia, etc ... - those kinds of forces could very easily move a bag of money a long distance quickly to be in the Columbia, then to Tina Bar. It sounds complicated but in reality isnt that complicated . This scenario could have happened immediately after the hijacking from December-January.

I dont want to harp on this but I think (back then) NWA held all the keys, if for no other reason than they were real-time-involved. I could be all wet! Maybe the military was max-attentive on all of this and we just dont know. In any event, I am sure the FBI knows - somebody still around knows. OR, maybe we are all missing something BIG TIME. Maybe the fact nothing of Coopoer was ever found literally means nobody had the flight path nailed down? It could be as simple as that. But if that is the way it was then somebody knows that, for a fact. Again, somebody at NWA would know -

Snow, I have sympathy for Mr Nuke's point here. He tried in a very thorough way to answer your post, and you just dissed it with a "yeah, whatever". Are you falling into the Jo trap of dismissing whatever doesn't support your theory? And 1969912... I thought the ozark comment was uncalled for. Plenty posters on dz.com who leave a lot to be desired in the grammar/spelling stakes. Perhaps what they have to say is more important than how they state it. I prefer the approach of picking holes in arguments rather than grammar. you are a gentleman and a scholar ...

If Shelly issmiling, I am smiling!

Did you graduate from grade school? In the US? everyone take their wolfman pill! 1969912 is NOT a prime number.

The Placard was found in the flight path but still to the east. of V23 . 13 mi or more East of Woodland Wa.This realy doesn't mater. The info I have is the palcard was found almost directly underneath the fp as defined by the FBI yellow sectional map.

This isn't about confirming anyone's theory about the flight path. It is about answering specific questions you and others have posed. In this case you questioned the statement about latitude. Two posters came back with well thought out replies citing specific examples of broad latitude given to 305. It isn't an opinion or information seeking to confirm a theory. This is also precisely the reason that other contributors have left the board. It is rather frustrating when specific questions are asked, and knowledgably answers are given, but completely disreguarded. agree. I keep coming back to the chase planes and H in his helicpter trying to intercept 305. They must have had some bearings to work with and some estimates of their own positions, which would help define where 305 was in sometime frame?. And yet we hear nothing about these other planes who would know where 305 was and the timeframe, in approximate terms. The two chase jets were directly behind 305! Had to keep circling off and returning to stay behind. How come these aircraft are never mentioned in terms of defining a flight path?
-
It does show up in the transcripts. You can find it on pages 189 and 190. ATC told them they could bust altitude by 4000 feet. 305 also requested not to be restricted by the noise abatement procedure and was granted permission to climb at any angle they needed to. They also were told “No restrictions at all, you fly any way you can do her”. Sluggo_Monster thats exactly right - verbatum...

thats Tom Bohan in Continental flight #???, landed at PDX and filed a wind report ...
-
I don't know what the traffic was like at PDX back then, but I would think that it would be a big deal for PDX ATC if 305 flew east of PDX, as opposed to circling around to the west, like the flight path map shows. Explain that .... traffic issue? And if Bohan was 4 mins behind and above?

I almost agree with everything above. Bundles could stay together if they were wrapped in the the reserve front chute which was gone when they inspected the plane at Reno. Just because one front reserve was gone does not meet it went along with Cooper. Using that chute packed with some money would be a good decoy ... if found. As I see this, the whole flight path/DZ issue is below Merwin Lake, not north of Merwin back to SEA? The conflict is between the FBI Map and Himmeslbach, but H does not have an alternate map to back his version up. I have no doubt whatever, Jerry is pursuing what he believes to be the correct flight path version. Which makes you wonder: why is Carr and the Seattle Office presenting their yellow sectional map at all, if they know its wrong?

will call soon -

There is one small issue Ive never spoken to - Somewhere in the remote past someone (maybe Scott) spoke to the issue of trim while flying a 727. He described the trim as being sensitive, so sensitive 'once the passangers are seated and things are quiet, I can tell when a stewardess walks from the front to the back - I have to change the trim very slightly.' Maybe on the evening of 11-24-71, trim was not an issue, due to winds and buffeting? Thats never been mentioned by Scott, Rat, or anyone that I know of. It has never been mentioned with respect to Cooper leaving the plane.

Im homeless too! Adopt me! I will thrown in a whole corporation.

Agreed to me that means they are 10 miles off of the VOR/DME. I'll preface this by saying I'm not sure how northwest's pilot rotations worked in the 1970's, but if it is anything like today it is possible that crew A) had never worked with each other and B) had never flown that route. Like you said, none of the crew would have ever had any reason to be on V-23. I think Sluggo's point about never having flown a 'low alt' route is very valid.
-
Sluggo is giving you insight into how a generic pilot would think and act in the situation, not how you would. agree. To make matters worse Rat & Scott (Anderson) were apparently never asked to clarify what Rat meant, or what Rat's word "felt" meant. But now, given they had not flown v23 before, Rat's word "felt" may mean: 'I wasnt sure what was what!' Vancouver vs Portland ....... all just lights? They did have charts. And of course if they crossed at Troutdale, that offers a different perspective with Vancouver & Portland on their right flank the whole way through.
-
correct - it was Anderson.
-
(edit) But then again, apparently Himmelsbach never saw the flight path map? or did he? This whole thing is so fuzzy. Yes. Jerry says H hs seen both the NWA and FBI yellow, and Jerry confirms there is a third map - I faield to ask: Is there a fourth map? A fifth map? Etc!
-
If I were at a sufficient distance and could see both I would say Vancouver-Portland. If I was vectored directly at Portland ahead or coming up off my right and Vancouver was not my bearing mark I would say Portland and not mention Vancouver at all. What bothers me is if they went over Troutdale then Portland is to the right-front ... and Rat said "ahead". If you come via V23 and not over Troutdale then then Portland is "ahead" in the literal sense. Its a difference in approach. Angle vs direct approach and how mkuch of an angle and which window you are looking out of to see Portland.
