How should Tsarnaev be handled? Criminal or Enemy Combatant?
Gravitymaster replied to jgoose71's topic in Speakers Corner
He should have the same rights in the judicial system as anyone else. He will, undoubtedly, be found guilty but I'm not a fan of circumventing the judicial system simply for convenience, or any other reason. It's a system of checks and balances in place for a reason. As soon as you start making exceptions then it becomes easier and easier to do so in the future. To me, the whole 'enemy combatant' thing sets a dangerous legal precedent. I'd be curious to hear LawRockets point of view on this. Ian I agree. It disturbs me that the government is suspending his Miranda rights without any apparent oversite. If there was some type of public safety issue that could be proven, I would prefer that they have a Judge issue the order. I don't like that the Justice Department or even local law enforcement can subjectively suspend his rights. -

Surprised anyone could even ask that question. Citizen, right to a trial, etc etc etc...it all applies here. Extent of personal and public outrage is not cause to bypass the law. This whole thread is goofy. Considering the government is invoking this: http://openchannel.nbcnews.com/_news/2013/04/20/17832252-whats-next-the-interrogation-of-the-boston-bombing-suspect?lite it seems like a very valid question to ask. -

Shooting - MIT, details still coming
Gravitymaster replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Speakers Corner
THIS! Funny how some are so blinded with assumptions that they cannot even recognise when they are in full agreement. -

We weren't talking about the entire media, just the small segment that hoped this would be a white male. -

Oh, and on another level, I mentioned an illegal Mexican with the incorrect assumption that someone would understand the implications regarding the present political debate going on in regards to our immigration policy. -

Gravitymaster replied to ianmdrennan's topic in Speakers Corner
We are being sarcastic and commenting on how badly the media wanted this to be a white male. Now that it turns out it may be an Islamic terrorist, they are disappointed. I then commented, sarcastically that at least it wasn't a Mexican. Apparently some who can't understand the point being made, feel it is necessary to make one up they can agree with. -

You are still missing the point. Please keep it up, it's pretty funny. -

I don't care either, but you missed the point. -

Well, at least they can rest easy it wasn't an illegal Mexican. -

When I made the post, they had a house surrounded and guns drawn. Looked like they were getting ready for a shoot out. -

Completely false, the Boston marathon bombs have shown that pressure cookers can be used as weapons and therefore are protected by the second. Duh You can have my pressure cooker when you pry it from my cold dead fingers.

Celebrating someone's death is classless regardless of who the rubes are. Did you not celebrate UBL's death? Seriously? When you heard it you didn't say to yourself, "Fuck yeah!" Now, I'm NOT equating Margaret Thatcher with UBL. Don't get me wrong, but what I'm saying is, yes, there are, in fact, some people's death you can celebrate. Pretty sure there will be a number of people dancing in the streets of Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan . . . Personally, I feel sorry for the guy right now. No, I did not rejoice in OBL's death. In fact, if you go back and read the thread, you will see that I slammed you for your fist pumping and childish celebrations. Dead is dead. Just leave it alone at that point.

Hmmm, interesting question. some people. How does he die? I'm sure there are the "some people" percentage who would react exactly how you thought they would. Yep, if you thought scumbags who celebrated Reagans death were bad, wait until Cheney dies.

Celebrating someone's death is classless regardless of who the rubes are. What do you think will happen when GWBush dies?

Are you saying we need guns to protect ourselves from fringe lunatics like Alex Jones? Or are you saying we need to shoot people who work for MSNBC because we don't like what they say?..... I'll take Both for the win. We have a winner. Although I can't understand how Jones got into the fray. I posted several more site that posted the SMS video.

Kansas Legislature Passes Sweeping Abortion Bill
Gravitymaster replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Nope, he refers to a tumor as a tumor and a cyst as a cyst. Even calls a penis a penis and a vagina a vagina. -

Gravitymaster replied to Darius11's topic in Speakers Corner
Our doctor always refers to an unborn child as a baby. As I said....Strange People.......I'm really glad my parents didn't consider me on a par with a tumor or cyst.
