Because the announcement of the VP always results in a bump in the polls. Timing is important. Plus, at this point Romney is the presumed nominee. Why? If the decision gets made this week, why keep it a secret for 5 weeks merely for dramatic effect, when instead that's 5 weeks where you have the second half of the ticket campaigning for victory. That sounds stupid to me.

I suspect if Romney chooses someone like Rubio, Biden would suddenly become a liability if they debate. Not a rat's chance in hell Biden isn't the Democrat VP candidate.
