My grandfather died Monday and I attended his funeral today... I have not been to a funeral in maybe 5 years so I may not be up on the modern customs. During the viewing people were taking pictures with cell phones and cheap disposable cameras. I found this to be very disrespectful. To take pictures of a dead man with a cheap camera to pay your respects? What the fuck is wrong with our world? Am I missing something? Is this a common thing now? I would also like to add that this man served 42 years in the US Navy and served multiple tours during WW2 and Korea. The navy would not grant him a proper military burial. The best they did was provide the contact information for an american legion post (who bluntly told us they would not do the service if it was raining) He got taps played through a cheap PA system and his 21 gun salute (7 rifles, 3 shots) 9 rifles, 3 shots... For his service he deserved it to be done right... The list goes on and on... I hope our guys from Iraq are not getting the shaft like he did. Call it a rant or whatever, but this shit isn't right. what others have said, fly in the deployment position. Just don't over think it. With practice you will be able to fly in almost any position. What I did when I got on my own after AFF, was line myself up with a street or a point of reference and pitch. Doing this (In my opinion) keeps your head up and will prevent you from going head low. Some people try and look for the handle.. that is a big no-no. You should know where stuff is on your rig with your eyes closed and by touch. The question about o2 or air, it is air, but there are different stages of air cleanliness. The stuff in SCBA is not filtered to be as clean as the air in SCUBA tanks. I think the stuff in SCUBA tanks are 5 stage, and the stuff in scba is 4 stage or maybe even 3. My numbers might be off, but there is a scale of such. It drives me nuts about people who don't use turn signals and weave in / out of traffic as if the 20 seconds they gained when I catch up to them at a red light really helped. So for about the last... well I first noticed it about 4 months ago.. god knows what goes on when I'm not home.. I live on a 1'st floor apartment and my neighbors above me.... well they have a squeaky bed and the woman is just as loud. I was woken up at 3:17 am by.. them. So I was jumping the other day and halfway through my downwind leg the wind changed 90 degrees. So my downwind became my final and (after checking for traffic) I spiraled down to burn off some altitude and land. I know about chasing the windsock close to the ground and low turns, but did I make the right choice to change my approach there or should I have continued with original plan.
