How far do you drive to the DZ each weekend??
Tuna-Salad replied to partyboy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I drive about 20-25 min to my DZ. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night. -
I really had no plans of taking pictures, (not yet anyway) more just pressing the record button well before exiting. I was mostly wondering about quality. Would it be any less than what I would see on the ground? (That is probably a dumb question) I also see people talking about fps, I find that with lower end batteries the fps suffers however when using the expensive types it is smooth as glass. Hello. Sorry if I'm asking a question that has already been asked... I am a new skydiver and not even close to being able to fly a camera yet. I have a canon powershot s5is (point and shoot) that takes fantastic pictures and is capable of very high quality video. I'm wondering if this would be a good / bad choice as a camera and why. Has anyone used this camera? The only thing I can see about it is that it is not very aerodynamic and drag might be a factor as well as hang points during deployment, however I have seen far bulkier less aerodynamic cameras used. I don't know much about photography so I cannot see why you would need a wide angle lens for camera flying, but I'm sure I will find out soon enough. I am not planning to do any profesisonal work, more to record my skydives with friends etc. Anyway any input would be useful. How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
Tuna-Salad replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first hop and pop was terrible. I was dreading doing it and kept putting it off till I finally grew a pair and realized it had to be done. Everything about the dive felt like it went wrong from the time I boarded the plane. I had never sat by the door and barely left enough room for the last guy on the plane because I did not know he had to push the steps away. All I could do was stare at the ground on the ride to 5k. The door opened and I some of the JM's with AFF's kept telling me to relax and finally pointed to the green light. I got into the door checked the spot and more or less threw myself out of the aircraft. I did not count to 4.. or even 2. Someone said my hand was on my hackey out the door. I remember hearing the engines of the plane as if I were right next to them for an eternity. Anyway I opened unstable as hell and felt the pilot chute hit my right foot. After opening I yelled and felt very confident that I'd just done something that I'd been scared of since I started jumping (I was also glad because I thought I would not have to do it again.). I was told I need to do it again because people on the plane said I nearly wrapped the pilot and bridle around my ankle. Now the 2nd time around I think I will be alot better since I have done it once and survived.. I'm almost looking 4ward to it. The big part for me was that I had never sat by the door or been the first out and I did not want to make a fool of myself in front of everyone because I remember someone once wrestling with the door and everyone laughing at him because he could not get it open. I did not want to be that guy. Since I screwed up the boarding and barely left any room and really looked like an idiot trying to find a place to go so the last guy could get on I guess too late for worrying about looking like a dumbass Long story short. My first hop and pop was a complete and total disaster. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night. -
Thanks (: I've been getting better with the fear.. I'm glad when the door opens, and the ride up doesn't feel as intense now. Now I find myself going to the door much faster and more eager and once the person ahead of me goes out I really have no second thoughts. Thanks for the support. I also sort of got the mentality about me under canopy when I start getting knocked around that, "i'm flying this thing, it isn't flying me" Usually I feel better after that. Hello. I am a new jumper with 21 jumps to date. On one of my jumps I found myself over some "industrial haze". Anyway while going through this "haze" I reached my pull altitude of 5,000 reached back grabbed my hackey and held on to it for about 3-4 seconds thinking. "I'm in this haze do I pull? Or wait till I'm out?" Finally I thought "I told everyone I was pulling at 5, so stick to the plan" And pulled only to open still inside the "haze". Since I was the last one on the aircraft I was not expecting anyone else to fall behind me. I finally made my way out of the haze to an uneventful landing. Now I know I made a mistake by even going out. I should of ridden the aircraft down if I were smart. The question is. Did I make the right choice to pull at my planned altitude, or should I of pulled above the haze or given myself to 3k or something for it to break. Let the flaming begin! Of course but now that I've made a few firsts I can prey on those that have yet to do it. Bwhahaha Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.

So I'm a new skydiver and was wondering if anyone knew most of the beer laws. I know passing AFF and landing on tarmac gets free beer, but what about the rest? I plan to milk the free beer cow on all 4 tits. Furthermore, should we socially excommunicate said people who leave the DZ and don't buy beer? HAHA what can I say I was bored! Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.

I'm not "Afraid" like I was in the beginning. At first I was seriously questioning my sanity. But now I guess I have alot of apprehension. My first AFF I don't remember being scared, mainly because I was concentrating on all the stuff I had to do. I think my mind is telling my body "what you are about to do is not right". I think that even though I was scared and still did it has made me a bit stronger. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.

Nice thanks everyone. Kinda odd I was never scared IN the door, only the times leading up to it. Once I stood up to make my way toward the door I knew I was going. I will look back on this in a while and laugh I'm sure. The people who say they aren't scared should have the most to worry about I'm sure. Hello. I'm new with only 21 jumps and so far and since I've started I have been scared at some point or another. At first it was the time leading up to the jump, sweatty palms, dry mouth, all the usual stuff. Until about jump 13 or 14 I used to say to myself.. "what the hell are you doing" "you dont have to jump" "oh good clouds maybe we don't have to go" I was told that was the 'door monster'. Now I don't give it a second thought, it's my turn, spot check for traffic count to 7 or 8 and go. Now the fear starts when under canopy and I'm getting blown around by turbulence or something waiting on my canopy to collapse. My last jump I did not make any turns or movements if I did not need to but sometimes I will fly somewhat agressive. Is it odd that the fear comes and goes or that I am exp it at different times? Almost like different stages. Should't I be past this by now? Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.

Hi everyone. I started AFF @ Z-hills on Jan 27 and to date have 21 drops. I like cold beer, fast women and jumping out of not so perfect airplanes. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.

I'm new also only 18 jumps but did 6 solos before even starting to coach and I'm glad I made the jumps because I was far more relaxed. As far as the loops / rolls. They don't have to be perfect, they just want to see you get unstable and get stable again. Millions of my potential children died on your daughters' face last night.
