Just because farflung suggests it, doesn't mean using 2" webbing would have been more optimal for attaching the bag to Cooper. I can see the cord being optimal. Try both. Narrow cord seems good for the problem...in addition to the easier tensioning and knot tying. Unless you're thinking some kind of single wrap where you use the buckle and tensioning device? You still have to connect the other two metal ends together somehow. Knotting would use up some of the length. Remember also, that the bag was open at the top with no closure or drawstring. Cord is better for solving that? assuming there's enough extra cloth available at the time to create a neck. Minimally, the amount of 2" webbing available was too small? (from farflung's extenders). (edit) alternative, maybe better, might have been to cut the nylon sheeting and use it, maybe in addition to the cord. Maybe his knife couldn't handle that. Or maybe the cord was sufficient. (edit) wrapping the bag with his raincoat, and tying it, comes to mind as a good solution.

I will say this: Snowmman does appear to spend every moment awake riding this forum, as if his life depended on it? When does he feed his kids and dogs and antennas and lastly, his wife!? 377 is a close second but divorced. That's not a judgement, just an observation. Each to his own cave. I spend every moment awake riding this forum. My life depends on it. Conspiracies are all around me. If I go to sleep, they move in closer. (edit) cave: I actually re-found a little wooden thing in the woods today. It was collapsed, but up above it, I thought there was a little cave like opening. Just body sized. I was tempted to squeeze in, but no light. Maybe another day! What a coincidence.. (edit) Georger: please don't read my posts. (edit) Georger: please don't fantasize about me.

Okay it's about time we out 377. Jo said "I do not believe 377 is hiding anything other than the possibility that he might be assisting a writer with his expertise." The time I met him, he was obviously all coked up. He had white powder on his nose. I've heard stories that women won't go on a load anymore if he's there because he's hitting on all the women even when everyone's going out the door. There are 3 DZ's that won't let him jump anymore. One time he showed up obviously drunk at a DZ, crashing his car into the chain link fence and flattening a tire, but nonchalantly got his rig out of the trunk, took a piss, yelled out "who's jumping with me" ....then fell over and passed out. When he finally woke up, he started mumbling about how "..he had to do it for DBC", and "... need a ride to 18,000" as he rifled in his pockets thru a jumble of wires and knobs and random shit he's picked up at flea markets. The guy is psycho, a danger to himself, a danger to anyone who rides in his car, a danger to anyone who jumps with him. He's got outstanding parole violations in 5 states on the east coast, so can never travel east. He steals food out of grocery stores, and I've never seen him pay for a jump ticket. His wife finally ditched him when he lit the house on fire with a flamethrower he had bought. His kids walk on the other side of the street whenever he goes anywhere with them. He's got subscriptions to just about every porn site on the web. He's evil, stupid, a liar, bad at telling jokes, has bad breath, farts and always drains the beer pitcher. He's perfect for this thread.

Jo the crazy lady said "Snowman - PLEASE chill the garbage. To you this is just fun and GAMES. To others it is a matter of the truth and to ACTUALLY solve this case. I am sure everyone here who reads this forum will agree with that. " Jo, I have friends who were killed as a result of researching and posting on the DBC thread. Don't get all uppity with me. I know you will solve the case, and I have to stop you, whatever it takes. It's just like in the movies, you know? (edit) Jo quoted from a book "The accuracy of that statement may well be tested in the coming months by what happens to my federal consultancies." The information from my consultancies doesn't have such a time delay. $5000 and you get first level membership in the CSG. (edit) Jo said "I realize that you DO not understand the advancements that have been made in this forum to the understanding of Why Cooper did what he did and the fundamental issues behind that." Yes, I don't understand those advancements. But you and are damned fools if we expect a career man to lay that career on the line by telling Congress the truth about itself or its methods.

Georger theorized: "Fuck you Robo-Beaver. Amazon can answer or not. The quesation was addressed to her. " No, Amazon can not answer or not. (edit) The quesation, that is. (edit) Note that hangdiver can not answer the quesation or not, neither. (edit) Georger: look at your post. You mentioned Snowmman. That's me. You weren't looking for a response? What were you looking for then? (edit) I just counted. It looks like you mentioned me 3 times. Possibly more than Amazon? I didn't do an exact count.

Georger of the religion which is outlawed said "Let me digress: Amazon has not addressed the specially packed chute Cossey provided. Neither has Snowmmann in all his comprehensive brilliance brought it up. " I thought what was interesting about the chute was not the mechanics of the rip (hey I'm the one who posted the most about that mod, from Poyntner...Why is georger ripping me a new one on this?)... but the supposed response of Cooper (reported by Ckret) when they tried to give him something that had some instructions. He was confident he didn't need that. Weird. (edit) I've come to accept that both Sluggo and Georger have poor memories. How do you have a conversation, if you're assuming the other half may forget things? (edit) I also posted some on the pull force studies the Air Force did back then, and the limits they had, and the two hand pull training. Maybe Amazon can talk about hard pull training in the military back then? Especially as a woman? Did Amazon have any upper-body-strength issues in the early days? (the air force study called out the details of testing men vs women, which is why I ask) (now Amazon is going to rip me a new one ....:) )

I was thinking that it would help finances if I opened the CSG up to new members. My idea is that initial entry costs $5000, and you get a certain amount of information. Then after you study and past certain tests, you're eligible to access information at higher levels, upon additional payments of $5000. I think the cost thing makes sense, like I said about skydiving. There has to be a cost of entry. This makes sense to me. Is $5000 too low? I'm trying to price the market.

good points farflung. There are examples of other hijackers requiring things to be exchanged. I believe it was Hahneman who didn't like the denominations of his bills and wanted bigger bills (less weight?) hey I just saw a new tidbit about Hahneman's hijack. ..says he told the crew he had cancer and only six months to live (he didn't) funny about myths. People love them! (witness the creation of such possible mythology about Cooper). Also mentions again how they found his harness quickly. http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=ngg0AAAAIBAJ&sjid=v_cDAAAAIBAJ&pg=6689,2858056&dq=hijacker+guatemala&hl=en (edit) here's an article that mentions how Hahneman (they didn't know his name yet) landed at Dulles to change the bill denominations he first received http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=v9gRAAAAIBAJ&sjid=h-wDAAAAIBAJ&pg=3258,2561948&dq=hijacker+guatemala+bills&hl=en (edit) good article on banks keeping money available for ransoms and another mention of the Dulles denominations switch for Hahneman http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1350&dat=19720806&id=jnAUAAAAIBAJ&sjid=7AEEAAAAIBAJ&pg=7290,354261 Hahneman wanted $1000 and $500 bills which were hard to find! (the last article has more details of the exact things Hahneman didn't like) They initially gave him $100s and smaller. He didn't like that. (edit) I never found out whether Hahneman had prior skydiving experience. It's a perplexing question. Was Hahneman whuffo or not whuffo? You can look at his actions, and still not know.

Georger said that Jo and I are a team. Now it's true that we have a three card monte scam going here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-163435387173807719# http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW0D2sAqrn4&feature=fvw We just haven't gotten the money yet. (edit) Georger: where are the photos? You find the lady, you get twenty bucks? Put your money down.

happy said "So, the chances of fishermen stumbling across a "square grouper" are pretty good. Most everyone I know has had that experience. Responses have been varied. " The only good thing I've found in a river turned out pretty good. We were floating down the Delaware River on innertubes as teenagers, but we had not planned well, and had no drinks. I spied something shiny in the river. Turned out to be a sixpack of beer. Made the day. Think I found some a floating dollar bill that day also?

Jo said "Yes, Georger - my sweet baboon, I caught your litte hint - Sven or seven? Do you think I did not notice? How would you know about that? Too bad you do not use PM's and I would not be disclosing our little secret in public. You have my phone number - call me and maybe we will exchange goats." Jo, the guy at the Lithuania web site: He doesn't take goats. Nor dollars. Euros only. And his name is Ivan. Not Sven. Don't get swindled.

Jo said "Sluggo posted an address and contact number for a Greg Larson who was supposedly the husband of Tina Mucklow. This was to the best of my knowledge not his research material." Sluggo had posted "believe that sometime around 1972 he married Tina Mucklow. They were divorced just a few years after. Shortly after that, Tina entered a cloister under the name of Sister Mary Alice Mucklow." You know what's funny? the only place I found a reference for that story of Sluggo's was here: http://www.startiger.com/celebrity_address/Tina_Mucklow_id304763.html I wonder if he got it there. If so, it's pretty funny researching. Although, I wonder if that site skimmed "Also known as: Sister Mary Alice Mucklow" from some other place on the web. It's all too funny. If I repeat it enough, skimmers will grab it from here and the myth will perpetuate. Who knows if it is true? Sister Mary Alice Mucklow and Duane Weber Sitting in 18C K-I-S-S-I-N-G First comes bourbon, Then comes money, Then comes Weber hanging in a tree I like this detail Ckret posted back in the thread: Evidence as it was found on the plane: clip-on tie with tie clasp on the tie, laying in seat 18E empty belly container laying on the floor in front of 18D pink chute laying across seats 17c and 17b unaltered backpack (Pioneer) sitting in seat 18B (edit) oh shucks. I'm the first post on the page again.

Jo said "Now - talk about Cooper and myths. Before I told you guys that individuals in this forum misquide and create myths." Look it's taken 38 years to create all these myths I've been part of creating. I'm not about to let you guys tear down a good thing. What else are you familiar with that's taken 38 years to build? Trees?

what an ageist remark!! are you saying all old people are too dumb/senile/technologically backward/whatever to use email?? Cooper would be what, say 85 if he was mid-40s at the time of the hijack? I know 85-year olds who use email! Heck, I know 85-year olds who have Facebook accounts oh sorry. So you mean hangdiver wasn't lying? Amazing. And it wouldn't be Facebook. It would be Myspace. I know mid '80s folks who use Twitter (rather, something similar)

Here's two things that's funny about our pretense at airplane security 1) We spend all this money on creating a secure environment, and then we serve alcohol to passengers. And if they get drunk, we may have to deploy F-16s http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,582632,00.html 2) That a passenger can lock himself in the bathroom. It seems like a no-brainer around security, that you should have cameras in the bathroom, feeding up into the cockpit, and there should be a lock override that opens the door from the outside. Basically, the only way to have security is for the passengers to have no rights. They have to be treated like baggage with very restricted freedoms. Arguably they should be handcuffed to their seats. I think someone patented such an idea. (hand restraints built into airplane seats for security) (edit) interesting nasa report related to this here: http://asrs.arc.nasa.gov/publications/directline/dl9_pax.htm Reports in the media and popular films frequently leave the impression that the main safety threats to commercial air carrier operations involve bombs, terrorist hijackings, and hazardous cargo. However, reports received by Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) belie some of these notions. Pilot and flight attendant reports to the ASRS indicate that passengers themselves are an unexpected source of many inflight safety problems, ranging from the merely annoying, to those that pose serious interference with crew duties and a potential risk to aircraft structural integrity. ASRS data is not the only indicator of a serious and growing problem with passenger inflight incidents. A recent issue of a major air carrier's employee publication noted an almost 200% increase between 1994 and 1995 in reports filed with the company by flight attendants describing interference from passengers. The interference included assaulting, threatening, or intimidating crew members performing their inflight duties. During this same period, the number of physical assaults experienced by flight attendants at this carrier increased threefold. Passenger-related incidents form only a tiny fraction of ASRS database holdings. A recent review of 73 database reports referencing inflight security problems revealed that passengers - drunken, obstreperous, or dangerously uninformed - constituted 23 percent of the reports submitted, equaling the number of incidents involving hazardous materials carried in the cargo hold. Passengers carrying guns, with and without the necessity to be armed, accounted for another 12 percent of these 73 reports. In general, the ASRS passenger-induced safety hazards fell into the following categories: Alcohol or drug-related violence; Uncooperative or unstable behavior; Carriage of hazardous materials and devices on board.

caught hangdiver in a friggin lie. As Jo pointed out, there's no one of the right age, that would have a current email address. Guy would be too old. hangdiver, you're a friggin liar.

amazon said "My first cutaway was on my 5th sport jump" wow that's scary. That's what I was wondering about..there's not really the controlled/graduated risk taking. You're pretty much right away in the same boat as everyone else, even though you just started. What about my question about whether newbies sometimes cutaway when they should have done something else? Looking back, it sounds like you really had to do that cutaway? Can you still picture the whole thing in your head? I would think it gets burned in. (edit) amazon said "I was open at about 300'" Oh now I understand..yeah, what's the problem ..you had 300' :) :) :)

Well, I had a hard time understanding what would be a bad vs good post. So how could quade identify any post as off-topic? quade won't, because that means he would be making a statement about the DBC thread..i.e. he'd have to join the cult, to state what he believes the DBC thread is about. It's like a tar baby. There's no way to manage it from the outside, without getting tar on yourself.

It's not possible to ban someone. It's possible to make it take more work to post.

yeah, email addresses are good, they allow you to find other things, other than email.

377 complained "I can't find the third one even though I think I once knew the source. Poof?" well it depends on which one is the third. If it's chronological, there's a feint move which leads one to believe it's been Poofed. How long have you been a junior g-man? No wonder people are getting on planes with bombs...you just can't find good help on a DBC thread these days, ...Jo's right, the country's gone to hell. Now, remember we had a wager. Do you think "cheat to win" could affect the outcome of the wager? You made the bet whether you knew it or not, that I couldn't control the outcome.... :) (actually I can't..but there is a feint. I suspect unintentional but it's there)

The Rangers took Duane in and trained him. Why? Rangers are as right as Amazon, being tough dudes and all that. Georger should have found your candidate by now. Maybe he is tring for a home run by finding all three photos. I can't find the third one even though I think I once knew the source. Poof? 377 What I didn't mention is that the most frequent top-of-list things that pop up during search have to do with stewardesses, rubber suits, and leather. I suspect georger got sidetracked when he discovered the world he only dreamed of, actually exists.
-
If I cut away at night will you respect me in the morning Snow? 377 The other "sounds right" thing about Amazon is that she says she doesn't take rank beginners under her wing. Anyone who's worth listening to, always has the same criteria. There's gotta be a cost of entry to getting insight. If it's no-cost, it's usually not worth much. Because why waste your breath on someone who might not be around much?
-
[reply Hell I only have 8 cutaways since I started in 1972 5 of those were on Capewells almost always due to packing excellence on my part ( 1 of them was an Air Force rigger that I had a LONG chat with) 3 are on 3 ring rigs. My fairly new Samurai had a slider hangup on deployment after a speed dive at the meet at Jumptown MA in 2004.. friggin new canopy landed in the freakin river and found by a fisherman. As we were searching for it.. I saw him cruising down the river with it all wet and balled up in the bow of his little Aluminium boat. see this gives me more respect for Amazon, and more reason to listen to her about "how to do it". I'm sure it must give her vastly more confidence and mental control by having done a bunch. Let's hear some more. What's the brain sequence work like..how long before "time to cut" till everything's okay again. (edit) I've been first post on the last 4 out of 5 pages. 377 beat me once. Posers! You think you're going to get first post on a page the first time you try, the time you need it work? 666?
-
377 said "BUT... I bet it will work out OK, I'll figure out something to get by, I always have in the past. " hey that's a good thought. Rather than saying (negatively) that Cooper was a bumbler, maybe he kind of bounced around and just winged it on his trip thru life, and things kind of worked out in the end. That's hugely mentally empowering, and can be the mental safety net people hold in their heads. (edit) Think of it as deploying your reserve a lot. You know it seems to work. So why worry? I think on some of these things, it's not about how others think, but how you put your own mind together to create your own reality. The most unsafe thing is thinking that it's a matter of "just being someone else"...you can't escape yourself. You can change yourself. But it's still you. (edit) Ckret I think labelled this as "knowing enough to be a danger to yourself"...but that's not really understanding the role mental confidence plays sometimes.
