Is bumping illegal on this forum? Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -
How bad do you want it? Kinda like wanting to get laid.....in three years. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Intuition tells you that, like an ice skater, pulling in your arms and legs will increase the spin rate and vice versa. The reality (according to my experience) is that the more you stick out your limbs the more push the wind has on the propeller (you). The generally accepted way to recover from a wingsuit backspin is to ball up then roll over to regain control. A freefly backspin is easier to control but the same principle applies. I expect to get plenty of dissenting opinions here but that's my take. Take a jump to play with the thing, lots of fun and valuable experience. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

That depends on a lot of things. Like maybe whether the DZO is around or not Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Sabre 120 and Cobalt 120 at 1.6. One square and one elliptical. Two different critters, both have pros and cons. Decided after a couple tests not to use my Xaos-21 at about 2.0 Very interested in what others are using, thanks for the poll. Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -
Sorry Bill, mudflaps they are and mudflaps they shall be. I kinda like the name myself. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Interesting that you expect so much from others but offer nothing in your profile. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Funny, everyone thinks in terms of RW vs. FF which is naturally the big topic. Also students, high pulls, tandems, wingsuits etc. Just don't forget canopy size/loading. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

End Cell Closures - Canopy too big due to weight loss?
Martini replied to ntrprnr's topic in Gear and Rigging
Wingloading may not be the issue, changing from 1.1 to 1.0 w/l wouldn't likely be a problem. Not saying it isn't a factor but as an example one of my mains acts like that at 1.6 w/l. Canopies are complicated, getting help from a good packer or rigger could assist you. Sometimes you eat the bear.............. -
Jumping fingertrapped lines with no bartack or knot above the loop is for people with a death wish. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I think it has something to do with the South African ZP that Aerodyne uses. Being from below the equator it has an inverse size to volume ratio. A tri 79 needs a container the size of a station wagon if you jump it in Canada. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I've picked out lots of stitching but not a bar tack. Mostly 'cause I never needed to but also for fear of accidentally cutting some threads in the line. I just acquired a big illuminated magnifier on a stand, that might make me more confident un-bartacking a fingertrap. On the other hand I kinda pack by braille anyway, what could possibly go wrong? Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I fingertrap the brakeline so that the trapped end goes as far up (inside) the line as possible. Then I knot it. The knot makes it impossible for the fingertrapped loop to slip, leaving the long "tag" fingertrapped allows me to lengthen the line later when the brakeline shrinks. Bar tacks are neater but permanent, i.e. no adjustment later. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I've jumped two different ZP-135s. The first, owned by a friend, was an excellent canopy and opened and flew as well as any. The second, owned a short time by me, was a piece of shit. It barely flew at all. The owner of the first canopy wisely declined to fly it. In fact nobody would jump it after watching it (barely) fly. Since Chute Shop refused to address my concern, did not cooperate with my friend when he needed a lineset and is (was) well known for it's poor/nonexistent service I would never recommend this canopy. The company is now doing business as "Parachute Systems". They're listed in the Gear section. My review is dated 10/22/03 under ZP.exe. When the company ignored my repeated requests for information, help, a lineset, specs or ANYTHING else I informed them that I would return the favor with an eternal diss. So I'm keeping my promise. Stay away from their shit and you'll be better off. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Ok I'll come clean . I REALLY like 400 degree turns. I did a really good one once. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

The question was specific about a partial malfunction, that would preclude nothing out. The question is complicated enough as it is. IMHP Ross is on track about the 99.9% at 1,000' but any answer is really speculative because of the enormous variability. Anyone can cite a specific altitude but when the shit hits the fan you'll do the best you can to save your ass. That being said I have as a bottom line (non-enforceable) of 500'. Only because experience has shown (thanks Todd x 2 and Kelly) that I can pull both handles and be open that fast under a partial. No guarantee that next time it will take less than 1,000' though. Or even 10,000" Or that you'll survive the landing even if you get open at 10'. Etc. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I'm kinda partial to 360s. Do what you like best, be flexible and safe. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

We did a sweet 4-way from a 182 today, 2 on the step, one in the door and one late door diver. Everyone nailed the exit and flew a tight (hand bump) formation until breakoff. Cacawwwww! Thanks Jim, Dave and Bob. Not to mention our pilot Francis. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

We did a four-way wingsuit exit from the 206 last weekend with three on the step and one door diver. It wasn't real pretty but we pulled it off. I'm not sure that it can be done from a 182 but there's one way to find out. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

Shoot, just shoot 'em. Then shoot 'em down the chute. And shit on their chutes. Sometimes you eat the bear..............

I hope I wasn't on that load since we didn't have any female w/s fliers until very recently and I have no memory of a wingsuit orgy. But with the right bird babe it sounds like good kinky fun. As for the "no problem " part I guess that would depend on what you consider a problem. In solving that problem we proved it's existence. At any rate flocks out of the 182 are not only doable they're a blast. We may be able to solve the problem again this weekend (unless other options prevail). With seven regular birds and several occasionals I'd say we're a pretty substantial force for a small DZ. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
