  1. You'll only find out about the Sabre's openings by jumping yours. I've owned 3 original Sabres; 150 at 1.3 opened fine another 150 that opens fine a 120 at 1.6 that opens too fast. I changed to a larger (cordwise) slider and it opens fast but acceptably. As far as canopy performance the Sabre is a stable, predictable well-behaved flier, not twitchy and exciting but an easy handling friend. If you plan on learning to swoop with it you'll find that it has a short recovery arc and loses speed quickly but makes up for it in it's easy handling. Not a modern design but not known for "dangerous" habits. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  2. I've made that sound too. Now it's "fuck, not again!" Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  3. Plenty. But I still stand by my original remark. I jumped my old GTI from about 20k once. Time and distance weren't my goal. Just the high fun quotient. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  4. I love to hear about kicking out of line twists on a spinner. Good fucking luck, I hope you pulled real high. Kicking out of stable line twists is kind of like cereal for breakfast. Except sometimes you get to chop those too. Losing altitude awareness on a spinner has killed people, be careful boys and girls. BTW a wise and experienced friend gave me a wry piece of advice after a chopper last year: pulling low causes malfunctions. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  5. Now there's an attitude I can get behind. High on my list is a soft opening canopy. Lots of altitude is a good idea too. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  6. Does the suit have wings? I mean that anyone who does a 60,000 + ft. jump had better be wearing a wingsuit or it would be a complete waste of time/money. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  7. This eagle would love to hunt eggs but I think I hear the sound of snow falling. Save some free jumps for me though. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  8. I used to have a double-ended closing loop with different lengths from knot to loop. That might help your tug-of-war with Karen. It also doubles the lifespan of the loop. Just be careful how you stow it so there isn't a long looped end hanging out to catch on something. BTW I broke my first closing loop last year, it didn't even look that worn despite having a lot of jumps on it. Karen heard it break and gave me shit for it. But she also gave me acouple new closing loops.
  9. Mr. Bill jumps sure attract a lot of negative vibes. I've seen thousands of successful skydives, any of those could have gone wrong too. Virtually anything you do skydiving adds to the risk level. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  10. I couldn't disagree more. My karma just ran over your dogma. Ommmm Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  11. That's one of the reasons I own two of them.
  12. What Phree said. My RWS pin risers are sweet but the superior riser is sold by Velocity Sports. Great toggle setup and the best hard housing around. They're a pain to pack but worth it in cable protection. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  13. If you like the Gath but don't like the protection buy a larger size and add some padding. BTW I once tripped and smacked the side of my head on the ground good and hard, I was real happy that I was wearing my Gath then. It's also easy to figure out ways to mount Dytters on them (I have an audible on both sides). Yeah they're pretty minimal but so is the price. I don't have experience with the visor model but like the original I imagine that it will at least make it easier for a cleanup crew to scoop up your brains . Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  14. I hope you have been reading the responses here Krisanne. Interesting stuff aint it? Although I haven't had an RSL for years I stowed mine when disconnected on the cutaway housing. It really is OK as long as the slack RSL bridle can't become entangled with anything. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  15. If you can smash it in there and close it and the pin doesn't fall out you'll be fine. Probably. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  16. You just had a warning shot. Find a way to not risk your eyesight. If that means wearing safety glasses until you find a solution to your problem then wear the glasses. Please. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  17. I've had more than one new RW jumper thank me for suggesting that they loosen their chest strap so they can arch more completely and easily. Freefliers like 'em tighter typically to help keep a straighter torso. Since I do shitty RW and FF my strap is pretty loose for wingsuit flying. Loose is better for swooping too. 18. I'd love to see a chart or something demonstrating wingloadings for various suits in various sizes. It would be very interesting although not necessarily very useful because you can't change your wingload on a wingsuit except by wearing weights (not typically a good thing) or finding a suit with more surface area (not necessarily increasing "performance"). I fly with a couple of guys who clearly have higher wingloadings than I do but generally outperform me simply because they are better fliers. Humbling and inspirational. On the other hand a couple of my friends are much taller than I am and weigh about the same, I'll never come close to their performance no matter how good I get. As a friend said, just do the best you can that day. For flocking purposes it doesn't matter much as we try to fly in the midrange of the low to middle flyer's ability. Prolly more than you wanted to hear, I swear it's the wine's fault. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  19. Not gonna be easy finding reserve loadings that high. My reserves are both PD, I've jumped one at 1.35 three times and trust it without question. Haven't jumped the other at 1.55 but feel the same way about it or it wouldn't be in my rig. 1.8 is beyond my comfort level though. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  20. You're not all that decrepit. Old, yes but not, well, nevermind. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  21. Can't help putting in my 2 cents. One factor is availability. If a Stiletto is what is available or what you can afford it's a fine tool. It has it's limitations and peculiarities (like any canopy) but is a useful, fun and responsive canopy. Modern, efficient and competitive? Not. IMHO by far the biggest detriment is the short recovery arc leading to low hooks but the canopy is still a solid HP wing. Oh yeah, it opens on heading once in a while too. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  22. Hey Rob, are the Canadian flyers called "goosemen"? Just askin. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  23. IMHO at your wingloading you'll find a big difference going to a smaller canopy, less so changing canopy shape. Naturally the conservative way is to only change one thing at a time. I went from a Stiletto 150 to a 135 and found it to be challenging. Going from square to elliptical seemed simple. Please consult people who watch you fly and are qualified to help you choose. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  24. What a ripoff! I only charge $25 and that includes free, um, stuff too. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
  25. So you tried a few and one ended up a chopper. Now no one should ever try one. That seems reasonable. Not. The next time I try one, which I certainly will, it sure as hell won't be from 3700'. Sometimes you eat the bear..............
