  1. I guess I didn't appreciate how reasonable my drive is here. My dz is only about a half hour from work and an additional 15-20 minutes from home. You can't beat the people there, but a bit bigger plane once in a while is sure a treat. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  2. Sounds like a plan to me. I'm planning on being there. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  3. That sounds like a good time of day for a beginner like me. I'm sure I'll learn a lot in the next couple of months, but.......... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  4. Keep that white stuff to yourself. DO NOT send it to Idaho. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  5. Thanks, It may have taken me a few years more than most to find my way to the sky, but I plan on being mighty persistent about getting there just as often as I can, for as long as I can. It's just waaaaaaay too much fun to do anything else. Took my gear to the rigger yesterday so I can get back in the air for our Thursday evening jumping. 6. Well, when you jump at a 182 dz, it's really nice to go somewhere with a bigger plane, so a group of us from Star made a road trip. It's only a little over 4 hours from Boise to SLC. It was a fantastic place to go, great people and a fun place to jump. If you make it that way, let me know and I'd see about another road trip. Oh, and I am probably going to be at Kapowsin the end of the month. Just giving you fair warning. lol "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  7. Hi Tanya, Good to see you here. It's a fun place to play and get to know people. I'll be seeing you at Chicks Rock. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  8. I'd like to meet you too. It'll happen one of these days. Maybe by then, I'll be better at the jumping part of thngs. I sure figured out quickly that I've got a lot to learn and that it's going to be a lot of fun trying, (at least for me, although I'm not so sure about people jumping with me) "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! 9. Oh thanks. Just what I need. Something to look forward to... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  10. Hi, There are great people in the skydiving community, but the advice you will hear most often is to go ask instructors. Internet advice really isn't a really good idea with something as potentially deadly as jumping from airplanes. It's a great world and the best way to get to know it is in person. Go to the dropzone where you plan to jump and just spend some time getting to know the staff and jumpers there. Skydivers love to talk about their experiences. 11. Oh, my. I knew I was a little high when I flared, but 30 feet too high. Wow! I guess there was a little extra adrenaline in my system. I will say, it was sure a surprise when I opened at around 4000 feet to a canopy that thought I wanted a carnival ride. It was starting to spin when I opened. The toggles appeared to be where they belonged, so I grabbed them and flared. I was still spinning and it was picking up speed nicely, so I tried a second time. Twice was enough, like I was taught. I did discover it's a little harder to pull the cutaway handle when you are spinning and your weight is against it, but it does work. I was pulling the reserve as the same time I felt the RSL help out. Boy, was that pretty blue canopy a nice sight. It opened fine and flew so nicely. I was in the saddle under the reserve at about 2000 feet, so I had time to get to and set up a landing pattern. In spite of flaring high, the landing was ok. I know better than to let up on the toggles. I knew I still had my reserve handle when I landed, but the cutaway handle had attached itself to one of the risers, and I had it too. The freebag landed about 6 feet from the main, so I got everything back (thanks SDU staff). It's all going to my rigger this afternoon and I'll see just what I did to pack myself a mal so I don't repeat that experience. Once is quite adequate. I had a great time this weekend at Skydive Utah, and can't wait to come again. I still have a jump ticket waiting to be used. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! 12. We all had a great time at SDU and are already trying to figure out when we can come back. I still have a jump ticket to use "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  13. What a weekend!!!! :6:more than I have been able to figure out yet. I went on my first trip to another DZ, (Skydive Utah), jumped out of a King Air for the first time (damned door bites), tried two 2-ways, one three 2ay, one 4way, one 5 way and one 7 way, with varying degrees of success and had my first cutaway and reserve ride. I don't care much for opening and spinning. I don't know what caused the spin, but I'm sort of suspecting a broken line. I would sure like to thank Jack, his staff and the funjumpers at SDU for making my weekend so great. I'll definitely be going back. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! 14. Have a great day. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  15. Only one? Here at Star, it takes three jumpers for a C-182 load unless it's a tandem. The ohter morning wew had clouds to about 6000 ft and they were putting together a load. I wasn't very thrilled with the idea of hop n'pops to begin with, but decided to go anyway. It was a fun jump afterall. So, I guess when manifest is looking for a third to make a hop n'pop load, I'll be heading to the plane. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  16. Oh cool. That would be great. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  17. Thanks. It is the best feeling in the world. I am more in love with skydiving every jump I make. It's more than just the jumping too. It's also all the great people I am meeting, here and in the sky.
  18. THanks, I'm sure going to give getting there a try. Skyfest sounds like a lot of fun. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  19. Thanks. I'm going to try to make it your way at the emnd of the month. See you soon. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  20. Now that it's gotten warmer, I will admit that it was damned cold jumping this winter. It was well worth it though. I will make a trip to see you and Cindy this summer, but it may be after Prairie. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  21. I will be up there one of these days, but I'm not sure when. I'm trying to figure out if I'll have a chance before Prairie. I can hardly wait for that. There are quite a few from here that are planning on going. It's a long drive from here, but I've got a feeling it's well worth the drive. 22. :6:3 What a weekend! Got my A. Got my own gear. Did a couple of solos, tried a couple of two ways, and a hop n'pop. I even had my first kiss pass. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  23. I wish I could, but I have just about wiped out my savings with AFF/coaching costs and buying gear. I am hoping for next year, though. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  24. Thanks everybody. I am loving life land living life ike I never have before and much of that is because of the extraordinary people I have met at the dz and here on the web. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  25. There's no way I'm slowing down. It is waaaaaay too much fun already and balloons, kelicopters and beach jumps sound mighty good too. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
