Good morning everyone! Looks like a beautiful weekend here in Alabama. I am going to celebrate by jumping off a mountain with a kite tied to my back (hang gliding). I jumped last week. I became a single father while I was in Iraq. Now that I am back, I am very protective of my 16yo daughter. I let her start driving herself to school last week. This morning, I was heading to work and happened to be in the lane next to her and slightly behind her as we approached a red light. Some punk kid in beat up truck pulled up on her bumper within about a foot and then cut in front of me ( also within inches) in order to be one car length ahead at the light. I was a bit incensed by this guy endangering my daughter like that. I exited my vehicle and approached his open window. I think my words were, "One more brain cell and you would have a pair, buddy. Don't do things like that. It's stupid." He wouldn't look at me, but replied, "Yes, sir". As I returned to my vehicle, my daughter yelled out the window to me to watch my temper. I swear I never get mad about anything, but it was all different with my daughter involved. The guy happened to be continuing in the direction I was going and did not do anything else untoward before reaching what I assume was his job. It might help to understand that I am an Army Officer and I was in uniform when this happened. So...anyone have a similar experience? I ignore rude drivers every day. This one was different because of my daughter. Am I a nut? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I have taught multiple martial arts for years. I am in great physical condition. I usually carry a gun and almost always a knife. I find that the way I carry myself dissuades people from approaching me with ill intent. So, I'm not sure the situation would ever present itself. Having said that, I agree that it would depend on the situation. As to use of deadly force, my advice has always been to memorize the following line for the police and other authorities regardless of the situation: "It's all a bit much right now. How long must it be premeditated? If I am outside an aircraft in flight, use of a parachute is definitely on my mind. Surely it passed through the person's mind shortly before the chute inflated? I can't see my way clear to exclude this person from the skydiving community. They at least have the curiosity needed. The most important part of the jump is to pull. That was accomplished.
