Democrat-controlled Senate laziest in 20 years
davjohns replied to SkyPiggie's topic in Speakers Corner
The last time they passed a budget before the budget took effect (1 Oct) was 14 years ago... And you want it BALANCED? They are far too busy looking into whether performance enhancing drugs are being used in pro ball, going on fact finding missions in exotic destinations and chasing interns. You ask too much. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -

Hypocrite Obama takes almost $400K in tax deductions
davjohns replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, it appears to me the majority of those deductions are for his profession of author. That's my confusion. If you are working full time as POTUS, when do you have time to rack up those kinds of expenses for something you already wrote? Again...probably legit. It all looks legit to me. Just kind of surreal. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Forgot about that. Not bad for a poor kid from Pacific islands. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -
The first time I took a test of that sort and discovered I was Libertarian, I had to look the term up. Same thing happened to my father when I sent him the test. But it all made perfect sense. What happened that surprised you? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Book Sales and investments. Why do you care if he got a refund or not A refund just means he overpaid (and very likely in estimated taxes since so much was not salary). That means he gave a free loan to the government. (Does the free loan mean he is not a hypocrite?) Perfectly good question. I have no idea why I care about that. Thanks for the link. Still a bit confused. He made $1.5M as an author, over half of it from foreign countries? $185K in professional expenses while a sitting president? $5M in income the previous year? Did his stuff really sell that well? Royalties that high? Highly commendable charitable giving, however. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Coincidentally, I noticed a piece on the news running in my office; POTUS rate was apparently just over 20% last year. Can't get to the tax return link on my government computer. Please tell me he did not get a refund. And...checked to confirm that the salary is $400K. Real curious where the other $1.4M came from when he is supposed to have a full time job working for US. I'm curious how he makes $1.8M per year. Last I checked, POTUS was paid $400K. His position before IL Senator was community organizer. When did he or his wife become financial geniuses? I might actually read the return. Those deductions seem awfully high for a couple that has housing, travel, clothing, staff, etc. provided. What they heck expenses could they have that serve as deductions? I'm sure it's all legal. Just looks funny at first blush. What if the government rejects the Constitution?

I like 'flat tax (obviously fair...make more / pay more), no deductions (spend your money how you want), and eliminate the IRS (huge cost savings)' Simple. Fair. Efficient. Unlikely. More than a lot of evidence, they did work and obscenely well, which was why they were banned. The tech war was in danger of overshadowing the human element. (With the swim suits it was partially surface drag reduction, but also buoyancy. Swimmers were wearing up to three suits at a time to lift themselves as far out of the water as possible and reduce their underwater surface area, same reason why open water swimmers will always wear a wetsuit if the rules allow it. So as well as governing how much of the body the suit can cover, the new rules are mostly concerned with what kinds of fabric you can use.) I remember watching the Olympics where M. Phelps cleaned up in swimming. I'll always remember the race where the other American broke the world record and still came in third. Obviously, those suits were helping. I'm not sure that is true. The experience of the Roman Catholic church with "celibate" priests indicates a serious link to mental health. Touche' on that one. I'm a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army. Comp Time? Overtime? I know that government civilians can get comp time easily and after a year it turns into overtime in their paycheck if they haven't burned it. I don't see the difference, really. I'm trying to figure out how the workload is so great that they need you to work extra, but you can take comp time off. Obviously, there are lows and highs in the demands that make that possible. So, how are you ending up on the short end of the stick? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. The Right despises working women & thinks they're worth...less
davjohns replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't understand laws that attempt to make things equal. Things must be evaluated on an individual basis. If a man and woman of equal ability, education and experience are doing the same job and paid differently, someone needs to sue and lay it out. If two people of opposite sex are paid differently, there is hardly evidence of a problem. All of these studies claiming the sexes are compensated disparately fail to address the 'why'. That part is crucial to the argument...and conspicuously absent. People of different political persuasions are quick to supply their idea of the answer. That's hardly a good way to make a decision. It becomes circular logic almost immediately. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -
I can buy that. If you are able to take care of yourself, you think everyone should take care of themselves and not be a burden to you. If you are unable to take care of yourself (or see yourself as such), you want everyone else to take care of you. That is probably overly simplistic and even a bit insulting, but works fine for some purposes of discussion. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

I'm not sure if I wasn't clear or if you missed my point. Sex isn't technically necessary to good health. In that manner, it is voluntary. But I take your point on pregnancy. It is generally voluntary. Which begs the question of why you get family coverage whether there are two of you or twenty. Twenty cost more, so why don't you pay more? Basically, people with fewer family members are subsidizing the big family people. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I'm kind of divided on the birth control issue. 1. Health care covering voluntary activity like sex seems wrong. Then, I'm not sure I even agree with my own assessment that it's voluntary. Pretty much a need for me. Still...so is eating, and that's health related as well. Does my health care cover vitamins and other optional meds? Not sure. Then, there's the question of condoms. Does the health insurance cover that? Those prevent pregnancy AND disease that would subsequently be covered by health insurance. Seems the insurer would provide certain types of birth control that were in their best interest, at least. 2. Seems the health insurer would WANT to cover birth control to prevent the larger expense of birth, pediatrician costs, etc. Certainly they cover vasectomy and tubal ligation? And back to the question of condoms... I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..
