  1. As skydivers we understand and accept the risk in the skydives we make. A tandem student is unaware of the added risk you are subjeciting them to by flying under them. You are risking not only your life and the tandem instructors life but an uninformed passanger that did not sign.up for the added risk Kirk He's dead Jim
  2. Ever given any thought to what would happen if you had a premature opening while you are flying under someone? Kirk He's dead Jim
  3. It appears to me that you have half of a step through above the slider. Basically half of your canopy was flipped above the slider. Your second picture you can see the lines cross above the slider Kirk He's dead Jim
  4. I have not heard anything about the Plus Black failing, before is the common? Kirk He's dead Jim
  5. Just wondering of those using the Gopro 3 plus Black edition for handycam, if you use the Superview setting? Kirk He's dead Jim
  6. I have turned away several that were not fit to skydive due to inability to move. It sucks but it is a part of what happens to some older people Kirk He's dead Jim
  7. I am not nor have I ever been in the military but I would assume when given an order there is no option to argue or say "no" and stay in the military without disciplinary action Kirk He's dead Jim
  8. I personally feel this is a shinning example of a jump that should have never been done for many reasons. Too low of cloud cover, exiting into dead air, taking a passenger that is not physically fit enough to jump. I wonder if the TI had any option to say "NO". They are military and I would assume they do not have that as an option or at minimum a perceived option Kirk He's dead Jim
  9. If the passenger did it intentionally than he really does not care about your opinion and if it was unintentional than what is really gained by making them feel bad about their performance in free fall. Most students never come back so I see no point in adding anything negative after the jump , personally Kirk He's dead Jim
  10. Are you sure he does not have a current medical card? Some flight physicals are nothing more than a sight test, while others are a complete physical. It really depends on the doctor, I have had both styles. Kirk He's dead Jim
  11. Wow, like snag points much. I would suggest to the the original post, to use an L bracket mounted on the front of the surface of the forehead area and mount it to that. Kirk He's dead Jim
  12. The pressure to perform well as an instructor would be extremely high on that jump. With only 10 seconds of freefall my guess is they were around 6000 AGL and I could understand the want to get the drogue out quickly especially in dead air(it was extremely quick toss). I would have like to seen the instructor lift Bush's feet for landing though. On the rare occasion that my student can not get their legs up I always lift them with mine on landing Kirk He's dead Jim
  13. There is a reason Icarus has a minimum wing loading period. You are not going to get the performance of high performance at a low wing loading. If you feel uncomfortable going to the minimum wing loading the manufacturer requires then you are not ready For it period. Kirk He's dead Jim

    2nd jump

There is not a student cutway handle. You are securely hooked to the actual tandem rig by 4 connection points. Once you are under canopy the only way a tandem instructor "could" get rid of you is to lift your half of your body weight with one hand in order to unhook the connector. You are very securely hooked( I have attached a picture of the 2 different conectors which there are 2 of each connecting you)to the tandem rig and your friend is just messing with you Kirk He's dead Jim
  15. Cameras can be a distraction regardless of how many jumps you got. A couple years ago I watch 2 jumpers with over 300 jumps each so distracted by getting a gopro turned on and recording that from 10000ft AGL to their actual exit from the plane (13000ft AGL) that is all they concentrated on. Kirk He's dead Jim
  16. If you are questioning the reserve size I would suggest calling PD and getting a demo of that reserve size. Take the demo up and put a few jumps on it, if it still feels too small you can get a optimum reserve the next size up. Kirk He's dead Jim
  17. I have about 100 wingsuit jumps on a Crossfire loaded at 1.85 to one. I ended up opening a 1000 ft higher than I would have liked to in order to give me altitude to deal with canopy issues. Every single time I had line twist which were maybe 6 times they pointed to the ground. It is possible to find a cheap canopy and set it up with d-bag, risers and pilot chute for a quick change over. I generally jump a VX loaded 2.2 to 1 and have set up a Sabre 135 with all the above for quick canopy swap for around $600. Kirk He's dead Jim
  18. Our last one was a lab/German shepard mix, she was 12 years old and had alot of pain from hip issues. We tried pain meds and they worked For awhile but then she started vomiting the pills up. My wife had a very hard time letting go but after about three weeks of it she had lost 10 lbs and one morning my wife called me at work and said it was time. She took care of it and stayed with her till the end. Our other dog I took care of so that my wife would not have to go through it. To my surprise my wife said in the end it was difficult but it helped her to be there at the end and gave her closer. this kind of thing really sucks, sorry you are going through it Kirk He's dead Jim
  19. I went to the local vet in my small town and they took care of all aspects. The cost depends on the pets weight. I have had to put to sleep two dogs one was around 100lbs and it was around $320, our other dog was 44 lbs and it ran $244. We were asked if we wanted to stay with them during it and we did. They will give than a shot to put them to sleep and then about 10 Minutes later they will give them the shot to put them down. On the first one I was not sure weather I wanted the ashes or not so I choose to have them and I am glad I did. The remains came in a nicely decorated box with her name on it. It is a very tough thing to go through but IMHO it is what my family deserves Kirk He's dead Jim
  20. Way back when I went bungge jumping I thought the meathod they employed to lift me back up was a little crude. I jumped from a bridge and they had a rope rigged up to the back of a pickup truck and a pulley at the edge of the bridge, they would have a spotter tell the person driving when to go and stop when lifting a person back up to the bridge. Kirk He's dead Jim
  21. I am a big fan of keeping ones deployment handle being in the same place always because you always default to what you know and have trained for. Changing deployment handle position has killed more than one person Kirk He's dead Jim
  22. Below emergency exit altitude, I personally can not think of any reason to connect the student to me. In fact I can think of a lot of reason that it would be very unsafe to do so. I seat belt the student to the plane through their leg strap then explain to them where the seat belt is located in case of emergency. At 1500 AGL I disconnect the seat belts then attach the lower laterials and tighten them down. I leave the upper off till 9000 AGL (we exit at 13000 AGL normally). Kirk He's dead Jim
  23. Also depending on the DZ it seems alot of them for Tandem video's are going to TI held handycam set ups. Kirk He's dead Jim
  24. The real problem with this site is many people here have many more posts than actual Skydives.I just love when the totally unrated Skydivers chime in on issues about rated instructores ;issues. I really do not know who you are but in another thread it has been stated you have only done one tandem and I noticed you never argued against it, May you should go become an actual. Skydiver before you post here. Kirk He's dead Jim
  25. I have been to a few different doctors for the flight physical. One(the cheaper one is more or less a joke) the other was quite thorough. That being said there are things that do not make them a joke too. If you take anti-depressants it is my understanding you will never be able to pass, or DUII and I have found out if you take blood pressure meds you can pass but there are quite a few more hoops to jump through. I am sure there are other meds that may put a person through more hoops or exclude them too Kirk He's dead Jim
