Not at all. I understand the idea of if cheaper is just as good why not.I also believe you get what you pay for too I learned the hard way by buying cheap batteries for my first Handycam setup since then if it is a work tool I buy the best I can and have backups of everything. I was making a comment that the cost of things has gone down alot. I remember buying my first PC105 on clearance sale for $750.00 from the $1100 original price. GoPro's are far cheaper now.My only complaint with GoPro's is I have had one of every model from the orginal HD to the 4 black fail right out of the box. Other than that they give great video for the price Kirk He's dead Jim

I find it funny that TI's complain about the cost of 2 Gopro's and glove which new run about $1100.00. My first Handycam setup cost $1500 about $300 of that was for rushing it but that was for a glove, a remote, a lens & one camera. Kirk He's dead Jim

Really ??? Phoenix Fly advises a minimum of 100 wingsuit jumps to fly the Carve http://phoenix-fly.com/portfolio/havok-2/ And a minimum of 200 wingsuit jumps to fly the hunter http://phoenix-fly.com/portfolio/hunter/ To the OP if your jump # is current please get at least 200 jumps before starting to wingsuit I would suggest renting a smaller suit and putting a minimum of 100 jumps on it before jumping your V3 http://wickedwingsuits.com/ Kirk He's dead Jim

I was wondering if anyone has the Gopro 5 and how much the image stabilization actually helps? Also with the SD card being on the inside with the battery how much slower is downloading through the Gopro verses pulling the card and downloading that way? Kirk He's dead Jim

I can honestly say in over 4000 tandems I have never stopped half way through a harness adjustment to take a picture and I never would. Kirk He's dead Jim
-
I have seen similar harness jobs .On top of the chest strap being in a useless place it really bothers me when the belly band & back strap are around crotch level too it make them useless and now you are just counting on the Y-mod to hold them in. Kirk He's dead Jim

interesting that just at the being of this year you were flying a Katana 107 Kirk He's dead Jim

Tandem skydiving questions and back
TheCaptain replied to Acole6357's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Just so you really understand a ram air parachute is simply pressurized material attached to lines. In turbulence it can collapse and does at times. Landings generally are very soft and smooth however in turbulence it can be down right hard and with two people hooked together there is no way to deflect the downward energy, so yes it does happen rarely but every once in a great while you can have a hard hit to the spine on landing. Even the best instructors can not out fly turbulence, we call it drop out Kirk He's dead Jim -
I think the Pivot dual Gopro setup is a really great, extremely clean & well designed setup. The picture quality has drastically improved from the Hero 2 to the Hero 4 Kirk He's dead Jim

GoPro Model/s for Vid/Still Handcam???
TheCaptain replied to skydived19006's topic in Tandem Skydiving
If running super ultra wide I would run the video on the bottom too. The pictures will just get the edge of the lower housing but it is barely noticeable. The super ultra wide looks great in freefall but does get a little fisheyed on the other footage Kirk He's dead Jim -
GoPro Model/s for Vid/Still Handcam???
TheCaptain replied to skydived19006's topic in Tandem Skydiving
There is a definite difference between 5MP & 12MP especially if zooming in for cropping. You are right there really is no way to get around loosing the image stabilization. You are right that the lower placement would show just a little less motion however I feel any extra distance you can get from the student helps make for better video so I feel that is worth the little more movement. I just even noticed that I have to be vigilant even on the ground to keep the camera as still as possible Kirk He's dead Jim -
GoPro Model/s for Vid/Still Handcam???
TheCaptain replied to skydived19006's topic in Tandem Skydiving
One option would be going with 2 Gopro sessions. One thing to keep in mind depending on the conditions meaning high overcast the in plane footage can be a little dark where the Hero 4 has a better low light capability to help with that. I feel that 1080 at 60FPS gives options for decent slow motion and quality, however some editing software struggle with the 60fps setting. My personal preference is the pivot glove with 2 Hero 4 silvers, 12MP pictures set for 1 per second and 1080 60FPS video. I also think putting the video camera on top as it is set back a little farther and the pictures bottom. In picture mode it takes larger image than video so even set forward a little the pictures are still wider than the video. One thing to keep in mind if you are switching from Sony camcorder is the Gopro doesn't have any image stabilization and you will see it Kirk He's dead Jim -

As you stated it really doesn't solve the problem. Yes, it does get rid of the tensioning strap but your chin is still inside the chin cup. You still have to push your head back/ suck your chin in and tilt the front of the helmet up before it will come off. There is one person who came up with a Gopro cutaway mount that I feel is the only real answer if you want to put a gopro on a G3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5awQR_fDhA&feature=youtu.be Kirk He's dead Jim

People who have paid for ALL of their jumps
TheCaptain replied to mik's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I first got into this sport, I picked up a second job to help pay for it. I always had the goal to be a tandem instructor. By the time I got 3 years & 500 skydives and my tandem rating I had spent around $25000.00, that includes 2 rigs, 3 suites, camera gear & a wingsuit Kirk He's dead Jim -
I have about 50 wingsuit jumps on a crossfire 129 loaded 1.85 to 1. I personally think the crossfire is one of the best all around canopies made that being said I have found in line twist it always points to the ground. I would not open any lower than 5K due to the line twist thing jumping the Crossfire with my wingsuit. Generally speaking you want a canopy that will perform well in line twist when flying a wing suit. I did change canopies to a VX109 loaded 2.2 to one with about 100 wingsuit jumps on it and have had rather good success with it but again I have a minimum opening altitude of 3500 with it. I have in the more recently bought an Sabre 135 for my wingsuit as I have found it would be nice to be able to stay with the formation till actual break off and not have to leave early due to my higher deployment altitude Kirk He's dead Jim

He needs to get a class 3 fight physical but that has nothing to do with the rods in his leg. As long as he can perform the job of a tandem instructor as far as physically get in and out of the plane and perform the skydive he should be just fine Kirk He's dead Jim

I do not see what you are talking about. Every glove I have ever used has way more snag points than the Pivot Glove. I think the Pivot glove is an extremely well engineered and well made product. I can not find any issues with it and I am left wondering how they could make it this good for the price as they do. Kirk He's dead Jim

polarized lens do not work well if you are reading a digital altimeter though. Kirk He's dead Jim

Possibly over-engineered G3 camera cutaway...
TheCaptain replied to parashoes's topic in Gear and Rigging
I like your idea of cutting away the snag point. I think your kind of cutaway system is probably one of the best for full faced helmets. One problem with the G3 helmet is they fit fairly tight especially under the chin and I personally doubt the effectiveness of any cut away system to get rid of the entire standard full faced helmet. Currently I have only about a dozen jumps on my Pivot glove dual gopro set up. I am amazed at the engineering of the glove and very impressed with the total cost. I love the way you can easily adjust the angle on the glove. It feels extremely comfortable and light. Depending on the version of Gopro you may need to drill a hole for the second mic location. From the 3 to the 3 plus to the 4 the second mic location changed with each revision. Just a little on my background I have over 1000 handycam jumps using Waycool glove and later a Simon Wade glove. A couple of years ago I past a bird around 5500 AGl. The video guy noticed it while we were in freefall. The bird was maybe 5 feet away from us. Kirk He's dead Jim

GoPro Hero4 for professional tandem video?
TheCaptain replied to BeauRiebe's topic in Photography and Video
You minimize the extra risk you put the tandem students in. No one is perfect and mistakes happen, what if you get bumped in the plane and your pilot chute becomes slightly exposed? You are adding unnecessary risk to the skydive. Remember the idea of links in a chain of events, you flying underneath a tandem student is a huge link Kirk He's dead Jim
