  5. After serving on a jury (aggravated homicide) I lost all faith in our judicial system. The original charge was for premeditated murder and something happened during the grand jury phase where the charge had to be dropped down to aggravated homicide. We found the defendant guilty. She was sentenced to 4 years in prison (minimum sentence). She spent a total of 18 months in jail being let out and the remaining 6 months under house arrest. This woman murdered another person. She went into a house and shot her daughters boyfriend and killed him. There were 3 young children in the house at the time. Three children lost their father and this woman served 18 months. I saw her in JC Penney right after she was finished with her sentence. Crazy world we live in. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I

  7. It isn't on the west coast, but we have one in Indiana March 19th - 21st. The I/E is Greg Bailey and I will be an evaluator for the course. Let me know if you have any questions. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I

  9. I know riggers who are not biased at all. I think they would tell you both are pretty comparable. I will tell you my experience. I love Aerodyne as a company. I was in the market for a new custom made canopy. I was flying a Triathlon at the time. I was looking at a PD Sabre 2 and an Aerodyne Pilot. I called PD and got a demo of a Sabre 2 190. (I was flying a Tri 220 at the time). I got it in a reasonable amount of time. Put a few jumps on it and sent it back. I was still underloading the 190 in a big way. I called Aerodyne and got a demo of the Pilot 168. I also asked PD to demo a 170. Aerodyne had the 168 out to me immediately. And I instantly liked the canopy more than the Sabre 2. Perhaps it was the wing loading. I called PD again to inquire about getting the 170 to demo. They didn't have one available and would call when they did. I waited about a week and decided the Pilot was the canopy for me. I talked with Les from Aerodyne in quote length about which canopy size was best for me. He recommended a 150. I was a little leary even with 500 jumps being a conservative canopy pilot. I custom ordered the Pilot 168 through Mike at Chuting Star. I love that canopy. I had been flying it about 1 year and a half and was in Deland this past Thanksgiving and got a demo of a Pilot 140. It was instant love. I began shopping online for a used 140 and they are a rare commodity. I ended up getting a Triathlon 135 at an insanely good deal (thank to likestojump). And am still in love with the Aerodyne products. Their customer service is top notch. I have a second rig I am putting together and will be putting a Pilot 140 in it. PD's are fabulous canopies. But in my opinion so are Aerodyne's. I would rather pay less for a comparable canopy. I am ok that it isn't a PD. Oh, by the way. PD called me around the time I received my custom ordered Pilot saying they had a 170 for me to demo. Needless to say I turned it down. Long story short - demo both and see what you like. Keep in mind your experience with customer service when getting your demo canopy. And then make a decision based on what you are looking for. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  10. I don't know if it is going to get rained out. I am more worried about it getting snowed out. High temp of 29. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  11. When I was younger I didn't want children. I ended up getting married and he wanted kids. I thought it was important to him and agreed. We have two beautiful girls. We later divorced and I absolutely love my kids. He is a phenomenal dad and we do an excellent job co-parenting and sharing custody. I am happy and blessed I have my two girls. But I also don't think I would have been unhappy if I had decided not to have children. I don't think I would have had regret or felt the biological clock ticking. Since he is active and shares parenting time equally I get the best of both worlds. I am a mom and have every other week to be single and live life travel and be happy.
  12. I think you spawning a child would be a bad idea. So I say go get snipped and prevent it from ever happening. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  13. Good point! Moon Rise is at 5:39 p.m. and Moon Set is at 7:16 a.m. I think we are good with that. The weather forecast is looking a little bleak at this point. I think clouds and cold may be the biggest factor at this point. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I

  15. I completely disagree. It is one of the few things that can never be taken from you nor will you ever lose. Think long term. You start at 30K a year and then you get raises every year, promotions, etc... 30K is short sight. Look at the future. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I

  17. Yes, it is still a requirement and the issue has been debated back and forth. I think USPA did a recent poll on if they should be required. And if I remember correctly it was largely for keeping the night jump requirement. I don't know what the original intention of the requirement - was it intended to prepare you for an "accidental" night jump? I doubt it. I think since the D license is the highest level then you should have experience with the extreme skydiving conditions. This sport has evolved so much since I started jumping. You could argue there are other extreme aspects that one should experience in order to obtain the "expert" or "master" status. I see it as a test of skills. Do you know enough about your canopy, equipment, etc to land it in an unfamiliar situation? Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  18. Right now you have a choice. Go for the career. If the time comes and you don't have a choice have the dz/packer thing as a backup. Having medical insurance is so much more valuable than you think. You will also have a better chance getting a job fresh out of college than in 10 years when you have no experience. Then you will explain what you have been doing with your life for the last 10 years and well... good luck with that! Besides... cute girls like guys with real jobs... 20. Rob, I did my two required night jumps years and years ago for my D license requirement. I was nervous at the time but remembered the sheer beauty and peace of a night jump. This past New Years Eve I made 3 night jumps down in ZHills. Ten years had passed since my last one so it was almost like being a virgin again!!! I was not quite as nervous. And all three were amazing. Keep in mind (should clouds cooperate) there is a full moon on January 30th. So on the 29th we will have pretty close to a full moon. You will be amazed at how well you can see. You will learn a lot at the briefing. Much of which is covered in the SIM. The fact that the full moon will cast a shadow on the ground and there have been jumpers who made a low turn thinking there was a canopy in close proximity. As far as landings go I don't do anything much differently on a night jump (especially since I am conservative to begin with and you don't see me swooping). You lose a little depth perception. But all in all landings are not difficult at night. (And Normiss if you are reading this you can leave your comments out!!! :P) When we are doing our day jumps I would recommend you open a little high and really check out the landing area making mental notes of any obstacles on the ground that you might not see at night. In ZHills I made mental notes of landing area so I would know what to avoid. It will be awesome and a jump you will never forget. Oh and Rob - I think a few of us are going to grab some food and drinks after the briefing Thursday night... so plan on joining us! See you next week!!! 22. I like it. I named my two new kitten Sebastian (boy) and Elsie (girl and short for Elsinore). I have a dog named Quincy so it seemed to go with my "theme". Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
