  1. I don't disagree at all. I received my static line rating when you had to first go to BIC, then a JCC. Wait a year and then got to the ICC. As a jump master I was allowed to toss out a static line student. Then as an instructor I was... allowed to instruct. Meaning teach the first jump course. I took a little break from the sport, came back and it is all flip flopped. Now a coach can instruct and and instructor can toss the student out. Now, I just need to point out that it is more than tossing out. There is a lot of teaching that the static line instructor does prior to jumping. We follow the dive flows for each category outlined in the SIM just as we do for the AFF students. I also need to mention that a Coach can only teach the non method specific portions of the First Jump Course. An instructor (static line or AFF) must teach the method specific portions. 2. I think the difficulties lie in the size and location of the drop zone. I am at a small midwest Cessna drop zone. I made almost 175 jumps last year. That was A LOT. My guess is that many out there would look at that number and laugh. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  3. This was almost always the case when we were primarily a cash world. Now that everything goes on plastic more and more restaurants and bars are going to paycheck payroll and not handing out cash at the end of the night. So now, all tips are being reported. I consider myself a good tipper... again if the service is good - at least 20%. And whenever possible I leave cash for the tip instead of putting it on the credit card I used to pay for the meal. I guess I find it offensive for the bartenders/waitstaff to treat me differently (not serve me quicker) because I didn't leave $2.50 tip for a 2.50 beer. Bartenders have a lot less less responsibility than waitstaff. It literally takes the bartender a minute or less to complete the transaction. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  4. Not sure what post you are reading but I never said I expected a 100% tip. Actually I didn’t give any dollar amount. You quoted the response: So tipping 2.50 on a 2.50 beer is 100% tip.... or did I do my math wrong? You didn't say an amount but you were "ditto'ing" the previous poster saying that you would expect upwards of 2.50 for a tip. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  5. I should have emphasized it more, that I am sure younger children would love having parents that jump. My daughter was 18 when I started, so at that age she had an idea of what can go wrong. I should have defined the thread more about how it affects older children. Yeah, I have kids (younger) and was a skydiver long before them and never took AFF.... so I can't answer your poll in any sense... Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  6. I live in a college town. $2.50 for a bottle isn't out of the ordinary. There is a restaurant close buy that has $1 domestic bottle beers on Wednesdays... Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  7. So you are all saying in order to get served you are expecting 100% tip. Wow... that seems like a very high expectation. I tip $1 on a $2.50 beer and I thought I was being generous when you look at that being a 40% tip. If you consider me an ugly ass shitty tipper for that $1... don't serve me. I will go elsewhere thank you very much. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  8. Well I'm no instructor, but speaking as a student I think I can safely say that my instructors taught me a little differently. At least they had a more confident attitude about my ability to a point that they were changing the dive flow for my levels a bit to accommodate for what I could do in tunnel, and one instructor wanted me to skip another AFF level because of all the tunnel time I've done [at that point I had 45 min of tunnel time] and performance. It definitely was a nice confidence booster for me and helped me relax and fly much better during my levels :) Hope this helps! I don't think "skipping" AFF levels is ever a good idea - no matter how good you are. There are many more skills to learn other than freefall skills. Each AFF level has a canopy dive flow that MUST be successfully completed by the student. There is no "skipping" in my book. And all you are really accomplishing is trading in an AFF jump for a future Coach jump... Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I

  11. Just list it on dz.com and be smart about the transaction. It is much safer for a seller than a buyer. I have bought and sold multiple things over the years on here. I have never had a problem. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  12. Yeah, Florida (ZHills/Deland) is usually an easy 13-14 hour drive for me... Driving gives me luxury of bringing whatever I want without having to deal with paying for bags and airport security. It has all become such a hassle that I am a little turned off to flying right now... I have traveled with my rig often enough without problem... but I don't like to be limited on what I can take. 13. No.... I don't discriminate. Cold is cold and I hate it anywhere it is below 50 degrees!!!! Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  14. when you want to escape the cold but even Florida is freakin freezing?!?! I want a quick get away to Florida, but seems kinda pointless to escape the cold and go somewhere cold!!! Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  15. Oh come on now shah is not the only one that does that. MANY of the "COOL KIDS" on here do that shit ALL the friggin time, and they dont get hammered for it. I made a similar comment your one a few years back and hell rained down It seems to be very much a yank thing, Look I was nice to someone (Look i was a decent and reasonable person for a change) aren't I great Hey Squeak... I really just don't want to read about every nice thing Shah does to "prove" he isn't a bad guy... The cool kids can get away with it because... well they are cool! I simply don't like Shah's online persona. He may or may not be different in person. But the online version of Shah.... I could do without. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  16. And this is a problem. Treat others how they wish to be treated... not how you wish to treated. I'm sure you wouldn't get any complaints!! Yeah, cause I can't walk around spanking everyone's ass. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  17. I think Deland has the best dz food I have yet to come across... yummmy! Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  18. Good jump. That 10 second delay is an important milestone in your progression. You are starting to really get a feel for freefall. You are completely transitioning belly to early and hitting terminal velocity. This is where I have seen some static line students struggle with instability. Keep it up! I would say it is the combination of instructor/student. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  19. I'm scared of hard landings and going low. That keeps me in line. So John, you are telling me that you don't like girls that are going low on hard landings?! Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  20. This is true, yet bear in mind that the standard needs to apply to dropzones with multiple turbine aircraft and dropzones that can barely support a 182 at the same time. 15 coach jumps a year is a no-brainer in Elsinore whereas at a place in the midwest, it might be somewhat more difficult. As identified by several, the I/E process needs to be more carefully examined. One bad I/E does tend to spoil it for everyone. Thank you DSE and thank you BOD who realize that there are a lot of small Cessna DZ's in existence today. And you can't have different standards for different dropzones. That takes away the meaning of "standard". Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  21. And this is a problem. Treat others how they wish to be treated... not how you wish to treated. I think this is stolen from another thread. But I like it and there is a lot of truth to it. Please take this adive. Thank you for doing so. Your welcome for my pointing it out. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  22. How about sometihng like four-way fritters (serving four of them with perhaps four dipping sauces).... King Air Crab... Otter Wings... Just a couple ideas... Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  23. I have said several times that Go Pro lost their opportunity. If they gave the athletes each a camera then they could have increased their marketshare significantly. Maybe there is some type of Olympic rule that prohibits such things. I would love to see the view from the Olympians point. Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
  24. Kids learn everything from their parents.... Parents these days.... SHEESH!!!! As a parent I believe in my kids respecting people. Not just grown ups or elders. Everyone. I believe that hand written thank you's should still be sent when they receive a gift. I basically pass on all the things I was taught. I believe this has been lost somewhere along the way..... And I apologize for the thread hijack... but this is somewhat related! Kim Mills USPA D21696 Tandem I, AFF I and Static Line I
