Would you hire someone who was delinquent in his taxes to be the Treasury Secretary? I wouldn't. I wouldn't have chosen an idiot for President from 2001 - 2008 either. Actually, we had an idiot for president from 1993-2009. Green giraffes live on the bottom of the ocean. They are herded about by pink midgets. The giraffes eat apples from the tallest apple trees that grow in the deepest abyss. They like to play volley ball when they are not answering prayers from the true believers. It's true. As a matter of fact, it is a fact. No evidence is needed. You only have to have faith that it is true. Do you believe me? Do you need proof? If you do require proof, sorry, I have none. You just have to have faith that it is true. Gotcha! They do NOT play volley ball. They ball would float away. So they play 3-D shuffle board instead. I was told so by someone who was spoken to in a dream by the oldest of the green giraffes. He, or anyone for that matter, is well within their rights to speak in a disrespective manner about anyone else. But that doesn't mean the rest of us have to agree with them and/or stay silent about it. We, in return, have the right to disagree and to express that disagreement. Just one reason I love this country we call The United States of America!

No, it was not. Now you are making things up...again. Also, the towers were designed to withstand the impact of an airliner. An airliner at approach speeds, not at 500-600 knots and fully fueled. Water at high velocity can cut steel very quickly. It happens every second of every day. Aluminum can punch through steel when pushed at high velocity by tons of jet fuel. No surprise there to anybody with knowledge. Of course the towers fell pretty much straight down. that's the direction gravity pulls and it was the easiest path once the columns started to fail from too much heat and too much stress caused by supporting members being destroyed at impact. A tall narrow column can support incredible loads as long as it is supported from buckling. But once those supports are gone (they were contained in the outer walls of the towers) there is virtually nothing to prevent failure. 99.99% of engineers will agree that, considering the damage from the collisions with the airliners and the heat from the fires, it was only a matter of time before the building collapsed. No explosives needed, no thermite, no magic. Just simple physics. I personally think Dan has his very own gravity anomaly Oh, he has an anomaly alright. You foolish little human! The bible says he exist, so he does. Oh, and J.R.R. Tolkien's book 'The Hobbit' says that Hobbits exist, so they do. How could I be so blind. "Conclusion: There is no fossil evidence that man is the product of evolution. The missing links are still missing because they simply do not exist." Ok, fine. If you want to accept that as the truth then you must also accept as truth that since there is no physical evidence AT ALL that God exists, he doesn't exist. In fact, there is almost infinitely more evidence of evolution than there is of a god. Seems everyone got busy with the usual 9/11 CT stuff and neglected the initial question. Well, the answer is very simple. So simple, in fact, that the CT's don't accept it. The reporting was done in the correct time frame, However, the background scene used behind the female reporter was filmed earlier in the day. It is a technique used quite often in the broadcast industry. No magic fortune telling going on, no special insider information. Just bad choice of background video. Warren Buffett calls for higher taxes for US super rich
Belgian_Draft replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
love it - it's everyone's civic duty to pay more taxes - therefore - I'll pay as little as possible to make my point so tax dodgers are actually heroes In GOP world, maybe. I believe in paying what I owe, not in cheating. That's mostly for small businesses. Mostly for small businesses?? Did you bump your head or are you intentionally acting like it? How's this for a comeback: It is mostly college professors who cheat on their taxes. Ummm NO. According to an IRS study the most common tax cheats are the self employed and small business owners. A government study found the most underreporting of income was by self-employed restaurateurs, clothing store owners, and—you’ll no doubt be shocked—car dealers. Telemarketers and salespeople came in next, followed by doctors, lawyers (heavens!), accountants (heavens, again!), and hairdressers. Business owners who over-deduct business-related expenses—such as car and entertainment—came in a distant second on the cheaters hit parade. Salaried employees, on the other hand, make up a negligible fraction of tax cheats. See also www.forbes.com/2008/10/21/taxes-irs-wealth-biz-beltway-cz_jn_1021beltway.html The IRS said they underreported and/or overdeducted. Considering the hideous maze that is the tax code is it any wonder? Show us where they were intentionally cheating or do you consider any and all cases to be cheating? I'm sure some were, and i am also sure some were doing the best they could to do an honest job. For as long as I have been in business I always have my work double checked by my accountant. I also double check what work of his I can. It is rare we don't find mistakes either on calculations or other areas. Often we are at odds as to whether certain items are deductable. Call three people at the IRS for clarification and you will get one yes, one no, and one maybe. Once again the media whips everyone into a frenzy...
Belgian_Draft replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
And what would your reaction have been had the storm not lost strength, the media had not given it nearly as much attention, and dozens of people had died? Agreed, 100%. The danger was real (and still is - it's hitting New England hard now). Many lives have undoubtedly been saved by timely, urgent warnings. What I find annoying is all morning long, many of the TV stations have pre-empted their regular programs to give coverage to the aftermath of this storm. They look pathetic as they scurry around trying to find something to report on. Whether it be a tree limb that fell on a car or a slightly flooded street. Then they spend the next 20 minutes trying to wring some coverage out of a non-story. Could have been worse, they could have spent 20 minutes reporting on pre-season football. Oh, they did... Pre-empting reality shows should get them a medal. But you can't place the blame on the media. Nobody knew this storm would fade to a tropical storm before it made landfall. If we wait until we know for sure, then it is too late and we have Katrina all over again. Sure people may become complacent, but this is hardly a case of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Here there is a very real danger and the question is not if it hits but how hard. Better to error on the side of caution. If people choose to ignore warnings about potentially dangerous situations and die as a result, then I consider it a cleansing of the gene pool. And what would your reaction have been had the storm not lost strength, the media had not given it nearly as much attention, and dozens of people had died? My reaction would have been that it's a hurricane. You have the ability to decide for yourself whether you should leave without the media hyping the situation. You seem to think that it's someone else's responsibility to make that decision for you. No, I don't think it is someone else's decision to make. I do think it is the responsibility of the media to inform the public of potentially life threatening situations such as this. The average person does not have the resources the media has access to such as satellite imagery, skilled meterologists, etc. Oh wait...we do have access to them. It is called "news media". There no way of telling how strong the storm would be once it made it's way to NYC. Had it remained a 2 or even escalated to a 3 you would be bitching that they didn't give enough attention to it.
