  1. like the warning on a canopy. read and weep :)
  2. I jumped it. It's a "typical" F111 canopy. Good for someone who wants that particular kind of wing. Not good for someone wanting a zippy ZP 9cell :(
  3. unless you are disproportionately long torsoed you are much better off with a C18/C19. A C21 is too long. But as your rigger told you, it can be shortened.
  4. you're in luck. AAD has revised their life on Vigil 1 packs to 10 years/1500 jumps OR when “Bat Low” or “Bat Rpl” comes on. re : http://www.vigil.aero/power-pack
  5. No clue what the result is. I have jumped all of those containers, and did not have any issues. I do think that a round ring lower harness articulation like the one on Reflex/Wings is very nice. I also do think that chest articulation is not necessary, and is only mildly beneficial - but fashion dictates such option be available. It helps people with a large chest and small waist. Bottom line - I am sure each combination has it's pros and cons, I just think that there are too many variables involved, just for fun, here's another variant - an early Talon2, which has round ring articulation both on the chest and hips.
  6. All I can do is suggest driving an extra hour and visiting APEX BASE, who I am sure have more experience and knowledge about your FOX canopy than anyone in the world. Apex BASE Perris 236-C East Third Street Perris, CA. 92570 Phone: 951.940.1324 Fax: 951.940.1326
  7. I want to add, that the very apparent difference between the "full articulation" on the Mirage vs others is : Javelin/Icon articulates the legstrap below the lateral junction. (in other words the lateral and MLW junction is sewn together, and the ring goes on the piece of the MLW, below the lateral junction, thus leaving the lateral fixed. (pic attached) Reflex puts a round ring at the lateral/MLW/legstrap junction. VooDoo puts a Drings facing IN on the laterals, thus articulating the MLW/lateral/legstrap. Mirage puts a Dring facing down on the MLW, thus articulating the MLW/lateral/legstrap. I got pictures if anyone wants to see them.
  8. It's not the fit, it's the geometry of the unisyn harness. Other articulated harnesses don't have a chest ring. In a sit position with the other rigs, the MLW may kink a little when the rig catches air and pulls on it, the container will remain snug on the back. With the unisyn, that ring on the chest allows the harness to rotate backwards; the container lifts off the back. Talon/VooDoo, Javelin, Reflex, Icon all have an option for chest rings. The only thing different is the d ring is placed facing down, as opposed on the Mirage the rings is placed facing away from each other. pics attached
  9. If your paypal payment was funded by a credit card, just call the card issuing bank and dispute the charge. Otherwise.... you're stuck to publicly humiliating the seller, as paypal only allows up to 45 days to file a claim :(
  10. I usually try to get people to convert to slinks :). When using rapides I mark off with red fingernail polish, and give a few minutes to dry.
  11. don't be shy. how tall are you ? how much do you weigh ? what is your pants size ? what is your chest size ? "slim and tall" are quite subjective :)
  12. I agree. That's why I pointed out the details, and that's why I did not vote. Riggers are underpaid, but such is the nature of the trade :(
  13. assuming US based : shipping to SSK $160 (not $180) for 4/8 year $85 for battery sales tax (if in Ohio) shipping to you re: http://www.cypres-usa.com/cypres08.pdf
  14. I outsource some work to a couple of Master Riggers. Most work is per piece, but when it's hourly, it ends up being $45/hour.
  15. Rob, I think it's a bit less drastic than you are making it out to be. Of course, I could be wrong :( The dressing process, if supervised is very straightforward. Deployment is just an exit on your back with presenting the bag to the wind. Cutaway is probably the most complex part of this, as you need to locate the proper handle, and make sure to chop with your left hand (assuming right hand BOC). After that you are in freefall with a regular sport rig and no extra handle on your body, short of the cutaway handle (usually low profile) in your left hand. Pitch as usual. Granted not ideal for a low timer, but I am certain you don't need 500 jumps to be competent enough to do this safely.
  16. I have done about a dozen intentional cutaways. The simple solution was to trashbag the canopy hooked up to the BASE harness that you wore under your sport rig and once open fly it to the designated spot, you just cutaway and go for your regular main. works like a charm, and is 100% legal.
  17. correct. certain BASE gear (Perigee Pro / Gargoyle from US makers) has been drop tested for the German standards, but that has nothing to do with US.
  18. Brand wars ? Sabre came out in 1989ish. Sabre2 came out in 2001ish. Pilot came out in (going from memory) 2003-ish. Both are good canopies.
  19. loooooooooong post. once again, USPA ain't shit. They have no legal authority. The tandem ratings are given by the manufacturer. USPA does in fact have a Tandem Instuctor rating, but one can just as easily go to a non-USPA DZ and do tandem as long as they are rated on the equipment. What was pointed out to you is that you wrote a long post, but yet had given some incorrect info. Lastly, part of an attorney's job is research. Lots and lots of research. DZ.com is not necessarily a valid source, but as we are all skydivers, we are very likely to have better knowledge of all the tricks of skydiving, and perhaps some insider info. Such information is much harder to obtain for an outsider with no subject matter knowledge. If you have a friend with Lexis-Nexis/Westlaw access have them run a search for skydiving and you will be surprised at how few results pop up. So yeah, I do think the OP is not who they say they are and is fishing.
  20. As unfortunately as it is, it has been pointed out that skydiving has inherent risks. So does bungy jumping, SCUBA diving, snorkeling, riding motorcycles, climbing, etc and many other activities that people choose to do to have fun. The best way to prevent accidents/mishaps in those risky activities is to avoid participating. No one needs none of the above listed to survive. What would my family do ? Bitch and whine and accept the fact that I was aware of the risk and entered the activity with eyes wide open.
  21. I never packed any hybrid canopies in an NJ. I did pack hybrids in other containers. For example a I-33 Infinity was quite firm with a Sabre150, and felt the same with a Silhouette170. A brand new Radical 150 packed tighter than a Pulse 150. My statement about Pulse 135 in an NJ was based on the data above.
  22. I have packed plenty of 120 sized canopies in the NJ. I have also packed a fair amount of Silhouettes, and packed a Pulse twice. based on that I would say it will be a firm, but a doable fit. hope that's at least a bit helpful :)
  23. The report says that it did not function as advertised. It SHOULD function as advertised. That is the reason it is bought, isn't it? I'll make you a deal - I will answer your question, when you answer mine.
