  1. they are all good rigs, as long as the harness fits and you like the condition/colors.
  2. a container that large is very likely an SJ6N - the S means Student, and means an adjustable MLW which means a mandatory SB and possible grounding, but definite extra expenses for inspection. Service bulletins : http://www.sunpath.com/web_en/index.php?menu_level1=3&menu_level2=2
  3. those are the 3 mains things that I am aware of : 1) reserve pin cover tip doesn't tuck. 2) main pin cover doesn't have the wraparound tuck lip can be retrofitted 3) bridle is exposed coming into the BOC can be retrofitted I am attaching picture of the reserve pin cover flap, that part cannot be retrofitted as far as I know.
  4. it is located IN the reserve pin cover flap. Will show the container size, and the harness (older ones just show the yoke sizing (A/B/C/D).
  5. Remotely telnet into said computer as an domain admin (might have to re-enable telnet in remote computer management) net user (someusername) (somepassword) /add net localgroup Administrators (someusername) /add That creates the (someusername) account on the local machine, and adds it to the administrators group. in order to re-enable telnet wouldn't he have to login into the said machine :) ?
  6. assumption is the mother of all fuckups my friend. too bad I have played around with the Seven (more than one), and spent a few hours with Jerome and James.
  7. Why don't you tell us what is unique about your pilot chute, compared to a normal one, that makes you promote it as better. why don't you search old posts or the manufacturer's website and find out for yourself that his rig has a TOTAL of 2 flaps for the reserve , and the freebag acts as side flaps ? Thus a claimed cleaner/easier Reserve PC launch. I know, I know, damn new and improved products again, why can't we all just jump stuff from the 70s that was so much easier and more reliable...
  8. I haven't read through all the posts, but I do have to mention that with the thread title the way it is, the post-to-picture ratio SUCKS !
  9. you are probably right as far as the temperature is concerned, but the rapid pressure changes and the G forces should not be affected by the location inside the container.
  10. I was more concerned with how fast the change occurs.
  11. Let's also not forget that airbags are not subjected to the extreme pressure/temperature changes nor the G-forces that the AADs are subjected to on every jump.
  12. Some dropzones have a "visiting instructor" program which allows for that exact scenario. Others are case by case basis.
  13. personal preference same reason why some people choose to have a reserve with different color cells (no cost option from PD)
  14. he was probably pointing out how zoomed in the photog got, so it would appear that the jumper is low and thus towing. I am certain it was a sarcastic comment. But go ahead and ruin it with common sense, after all you have more jumps than him !
  15. the problem being that it's much less likely to live up to 5000 jumps if you are so reckless, thus those people are more likely to go in/get fucked up early in the game :(
  16. You are comparing an (at least) semi-experienced BASE jumper doing a tracking/WS jump who (if they are any good at all) is not doing anywhere close to 120mph straight down to a person taking a BASE canopy falling straight down and deploying at 120 mph. unless of course you did 40 jumps with no tracking :)
  17. There's always someone that says that and I really don't know why? BASE canopies are designed to open at terminal as well as sub-terminal. There's nothing magical about terminal velocity from an aeroplane that makes it less suitable for a BASE canopy than terminal velocity from a cliff. because a Classic of a Parafoil will open at terminal, but who the hell wants those openings when the point of jumping those canopies is to fly them ? In other words BASE canopies open harder, even with sail sliders and smaller PCs. If you want to fly a BASE canopy in SD environment, might as well do a clear and pull a couple of times a day and not have to pop painkillers for next three days. "trust me, I know" :)
  18. He seems to be passionate about Ebay, no? I am not passionate about eBay - I am passionate about presenting 100% of the facts, an objective view of things, as opposed to a myopic subjective sample size ONE opinion. It may have something to do with a lifetime of selling things online/phone , since before eBay was born and graphic browsers were invented. like another poster said - feel free to use another medium. Craigslist is supposed to be local classifieds, so it doesn't work (as well) for selling things to a wider/nationwide/worldwide audience.
  19. add Paypal fees ? Why ? If you were to ask for a Money order, there would be no Paypal fees. If you were to sell outside of eBay, and accept Paypal - there would still be fees, regardless of the market you are selling on. Seller protection ? They offer it, and it works. Are they perfect ? NO, they are not. But please don't expect hand holding from any entity you do biz with. Common sense is the seller's/buyer's responsibility, not the auction house's.
  20. Do you happen to know what the buyers premium is when selling on a traditional auction ? Many times it's over 9%. BTW, your statement is very deceptive, as if I was to sell a $1000 item i would not be hit with a $90 fee, but only with $50, as the fee is capped. (this is for auction style listing, for fixed-price listing the fee is tiered, and gets down to 2% of amounts over $1K) eBay fee schedule : http://pages.ebay.com/help/sell/fees.html Avoid like a plague ???? Sure, go ahead and do that. No one is ever forced to sell on eBay, but they do provide access to "worlds largest fleamarket"
  21. I would also add : how old were the Cypres batteries and how many jumps have been done on them since the last replacement ? But overall - it's AAD, not AOD (not anymore) - for the exact reason that reserve DEPLOYMENTS cannot be guaranteed by the AAD.
  22. May simply be the issue of too many practical problems. If I fly close to a mountain, I need to have a BASE container on my back. Surely, you agree that having a skydiving rig means opening at at least 3000' above solid ground. Depending on the mountain topography, this might mean peeling away from the mountain about 1000-2000' above the 3000'. How many mountains are there that have walls at the correct angle for proximity flying for thousands of feet over 5000'? BS. You can have a not-so-specialized piggyback skydiving rig with a freepacked BASE main and cut corners. It's not as clean aerodynamically as a low profile BASE rig, and its more of a pain in the ass to pack, but is quite doable. Definitely won't be needing 3K of clean air for a pull.
  23. You can learn plenty about gear without "getting a riggers ticket". Start learning. If during the process you feel good, you may as well take the practical.
  24. I don't have a manual, but I do have quite a few successful asemblies of the S3 to a rig. GOD BLESS THE ZIPPERS on my Ghost2 ! :) it's really simple. start with the wings cut away : lay the rig backpad up. Place the WS on top of it, making sure the top of the collar meets the top of the yoke. place the wings under the MLW and place the legpads inside the WS through the proper slots start on one side, by putting the cutaway cable into the loop righ at the velcro - you ALWAYS start wit the body loop first. Keep threading until you meet the MLW. you will have to skip a loop, most commonly it's the third loop from the top, but it's not always the case. Keep threading until you reach the end of loops adn stow the excess in the pocket repeat 3x more times (you have a total of 4 cables - 2 front, 2 back) what you are trying to accomplish is to thread the MLW into the WS. The front of the yoke and most of the MLW should be visible on the front, the rest hiding inside the Ws, and on the rear your laterals should be threaded in. try it on. If you feel that the mlw is putting a lot of pressure on your cable where it comes out of the suit, you may have to skip a different loop. Make sure that your handles are easily reachable and don't hide inside the suit. once you are done, if you plan to jump the suit a bunch, just mark of the tabs that you need to skip with a market. that's all. PS f you have a Leg cutaway, just thread it the same, no skips needed. The pocket for the excess cable is in the bootie, but is usually a pain in the rear, so I always put the cable in the bootie itself as I was zipping my legs up. PPS DO NOT FORGET TO PUT ON THE LEGPADS when donning the suit ! :(
