  1. this should answer your questions : http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/CHART_00037___Rig_Sizing_Chart_11_28_58%281%29.pdf the left most column shows the container dimensions
  2. it's annoying as all hell. those ads (once you click on them) are MISSING a category. They cannot be found in any category, but only in the "new ads" page. If you click on them they show up with dead picture links. I *believe* it happens when the user is posting the ad, and tries to post a picture that's too big - it errors out, and kicks him back to the posting form, but erases teh category. So the user "posts" what is essentially a zombie ad. I have tried to get j_ung to fix it during his short tenure here, but I believe the higher powers were concentrating on more fruitful ventures :(
  3. When did you start jumping ? and more importantly : Why does it matter ?
  4. it's a bit sad that after a handful of posts of Shah contemplating learning to flare from TV no one has brought up learning to fuck from watching porn... sorry, I couldn't find anything more useful to add :(
  5. It has been proven many times over that majority of the time it's cheaper to buy used gear at in the US, have it shipped to a US DZ of your choice, come for a vacation, skydive your ass off, and leave with the said gear already belonging to you, thus not paying duties on it.
  6. PD Reserves have a row of boxes on the bottom (in the case of a 1994 one it's 3 rows of 13 boxes). after 40 repacks OR 25 rides they need to go back to the factory for testing and a re-certification. Provided this reserve still has enough boxes left the price seems acceptable. Of course some riggers choose not to fill those boxes out :( see attachment
  7. P.S. I have been writing "A, I & R". I had a DZ office manager call me from out of state asking what I did. I said, "Air out, inspect and repack." They said, "is that an I&R"? I said, "yes"... Since then, I have been writing "I&R" more often because it seems that, at least in my neck of the woods, people expect to see that and expect that to mean "repack per the FAA regulations and thus let this skydiver jump it at my DZ." my understanding has been : A-I-R=Assemble/Inspect/Repack. I-R=Inspect/Repack I see a lot of gear pass through me, and I see more "I+R" than "AIR" for regular repacks. Also, see some that put "Assemble Inspect Repack" on the first entry, and "Inspect & Repack" on the rest. This one makes the most sense. BTW, I see some cards where the same rigger used both AIR and IR interchangeably :(
  8. In Parachute talk it means hanging in the air, hence the drying towers with hanging racks.... if you really want to get technical! I am just trying to "make sense" of this by applying the same standard of reading the CFR as you are. So far I am failing. You can say that. It would be just like a lot of people say "inspected" when all that that do it note the color of the parachute before packing. But there still alot of people that do very good inspections too. But, but, but... In Parachute talk Inspection means to examine carefully. In the early years all parachutes were made of natural fibers. The minimum airing time was not lower or changed until about the late 1980's IIRC. couldn't this mean that perhaps this is one of many verbiages left over from the "old days" which are pretty much no longer pertinent ? I don't quite hear the war drums... I was merely pointing out that while two parties are reading the same text, their understanding differs wildly. Negative Ghost Rider! I hate paperwork! That is why I try to educate BEFORE they go take a test somewhere. Failures during testing take twice the paperwork.. BS, MEL Could have fooled me, your constant referrals to FAA forms and regs, as well as the holy quest for limitation of the Senior Rigger to being a glorified dbag attachment tool certainly fooled me :) Lastly, could you please point us to the FAA definition of "Air"(verbal sense) and to the current federal code of this "parachute talk" that you are referring to. Also I ask you to please keep personal opinion out of this. Just, so, you know, the playing field is level.
  9. Let's throw another wrench into what I will now be thinking of as MELeaucracy : We all (even MEL) agree that a canopy must be Inspected prior to Packing. in English, "to air" (in verb sense) means to expose to air. How is the canopy not aired when it is being inspected ? the regulation does not call for a specific amount of "airing" time. riggerrob previously pointed out that the regulation (which starts of with the words thoroughly dried) had to do with parachutes made of natural fibers. Sounds to me that reading the FAR is like the whole religious text reading craze - ones read peace and tolerance others read a call to kill the infidels. Personally, I like Status Quo. Mel likes paperwork.
  10. Well yes, to some extent, but will point out a few things to you. 1. The only thing the FAA is interested in is the canopy. Just look at what is requires to be documented (recorded) in part 65. 2.The H/C is never mentioned in part 65 as having to be recorded. Minimum standards are what I am interesetd in. The minimums required are to Air, Inspect, and repack a canopy prior to use. These are the absolute minimums for recording also. On the other end are "givens", Givens are things that are neccesary for the job, like changing the closing loop, etc. which should be done on each pack job. ( actually a test question on the FAA written BTW). I personally do not log givens, but you can if you so desire. MEL aren't you doing exactly what you are so adamantly opposing by giving your opinion of practices ?
  11. Not mine! This manual has several issues and a contract has been inititated for it's immediate replacement. The "issues" range from personal opinion of pratices to lack of knowledge of the CFRs(FARs) in a few areas. ...but it sure has some pretty pictures in it! MEL Can you please site some examples and explain the mistakes ?
  12. Since we are all morons here, why don't you email John LeBlanc at PD ? Straight to the source...
  13. OK, but the main has 108 jumps on it, reserve has zero rides. I can mention that I bought my first rig in 1991 for 1500 and it was not as nice as the one listed in the classifieds. Now I have not bought used gear in a while.... But I don't see that as a bad deal... If this were a 91 Javelin.... What would you price it at? The main may be in very nice shape, but it's still an older F111 canopy. There are a few for sale on the classifieds between $250-$350 - so that's the baseline for the canopy price. There's a single Rascal in the classifieds right now which is listed at $400 and has been up for over a month. It will probably sell for less. This leaves, at the very least $750 for the container. Surely you don't think that the Prestige is worth anywhere close to that ? If the container was a '91 Javelin, I still would claim it's overpriced. That Javelin would still most likely need some mods done to it, and would still be older.. Although, it would have tuck tab riser covers :)
  14. they were addressing a reserve pc entanglement. re: http://www.tridenthc.com/catapult.htm
  15. And you base that on?????? It is no worse than any other rig from the 90's. The one in the classifieds seems like a pretty good deal for a first rig. I base it on resale value and availability of spare parts and support. We can also mention the "WTF is this" factor when travelling to most places outside Houston/Dallas :) Also $1500 for a '91 Prestige with '94 Falon and a '94 Rascal 202 is fairly overpriced in my opinion. And being that I sell gear for a living, I think my opinion is fairly accurate :)
  16. it looks a lot like the original Talon here's a pic of one with a DOM of 1995
  17. all you need to do is plug in "prestige container" RESULT : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=513169 in short it's a waste of money. And it's one of the "other" 2 pin reserve containers. You post a few new threads every week, most looking for redundant info. Please try to use the SEARCH function more, it's your friend. And it gives you instant gratification.
  18. man, you ask a lot of questions instead of doing a lot of searching... they were sued out of business after a fatality a basic search would have given you a post from the former owner http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3092690 Action Air owns the TSO and provides replacement parts http://www.tridenthc.com/fuzz.htm Reflexes are still jumped, and most people like 'em. As usual, you will find naysayers for any brand. YMMV
  19. The OP is a Troll with an attitude. She was researching Alti's 3 months ago. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3978070;#3978070 Now she is researching Navigator wingloadings. Perhaps in a few years when all the research is done and all the t's are crossed she will decide to show up at a DZ and watch a live Tandem jump be done. A few years from there when she processes all the data she will shop around for the best deal. And finally about the time of their 20 year "first interest anniversary" she will find the most efficient route to the DZ and finally attempt to skydive. just sayin'...
  20. Can anyone help me out ? It would be nice to have both the user and the service(engineering) manual. mine has the Camatron conversion on it if it makes a difference thanks !
  21. I think you ARE missing something. From what I am making out your "problem" is that you don't know that using mini ring-ed risers with large ringed harness is completely acceptable. your writing suggests that you think that mini-rings are only available on mini risers, which is not true.
  22. got a GoPro at the end of 2010, about 50 WS jumps on it, no issues with the sticky mount.
  23. yes, you can. you can : just use one of the cutters trade the 2 pin cutter for a 1 pin cutter (free from SSK)
