  1. nblood covered my thoughts almost to the t, not much to add :)
  2. It's a toughie, but sometimes people need to be told to harden the fuck up. Name please !
  3. 79miles which takes me 1hr 20mins. Used to have a DZ 24mins from my house, but sadly it's been gone for last 2 years :(
  4. I have a 199R, and it's it's a dropfeed machine. a walking foot ZZ for $250 would be a steal, but I very much doubt that this is it ..
  5. get rid of "i think" and of the "pretty sure" and give some hard FACTS, and then you can get a reasonable estimate. Otherwise you will be getting an wild ass guess :(
  6. I haven't tried them all, but I like the Cookie MXV (open face). I find it's a lot better and "smarter" built than my previos Bonehead Optik Illusion, and the even more previous Optik. I have kept my Z1 fullface for cold weather jumps, but I have worn it maybe 3 times in the last 4 years, so not much data there :(
  7. I almost agree with you, except for the fact that the Tempo probably has a shitload of repacks, so I think it's worth a bit less than $500. 1000 jumps on an obsolete container that's full of Velcro, and on an obsolete canopy... not worth much in most markets :(
  8. in that case how do you abbreviate "Assemble, Inspect, Repack" ?
  9. I bet it's a Talon2, in which case it's an acceptable container. The Raven3 (249 sq ft) is a good reserve too. you have to make sure the container fits you and the canopies that are safe for your weight. Your instructors/riggers should be able to answer that based on personal interaction with you.
  10. let's also not forget that a canopy cutaway via skyhook will likely have the freebag/reserve pc attached, and if the said canopy is small enough, the weight of those things has the potential to inflate one side, and the canopy will drift A LOT further
  11. in my experience thread fraying was usually result of too much tension nice looking machine, too bad you now need (want) a table for it :)
  12. try sales AT actionair DOT com same people, but a more active company :)
  13. I get a fair amount of packjobs here that have been packed away for 10-15 years. Last year I had one that was packed away for 20 ! Although I have never deployed them while airborne, I have deployed them on the ground, and played 'em out as if the deployment has occurred. I felt that the packjob would have worked. All the canopes exited the freebag cleanly, and the folds were neat, but not stuck together. In hindsight the biggest problem I would have would be with long packed ZP topskinned reserves, like the -MZ Raven. The biggest problem with long term storage that I have seen is deterioration of the rubber bands, and in some cases the rubber melting onto the lines or onto itself- obviously that was with the mains, not reserves.
  14. I used to have fun with them trying to see how ridiculous of a name I could have them make the fake check out to. I used to have a pretty good collection.
  15. I have just sent them an email. The diaper writing is different on the newer style Preserves, so this may no longer be an issue. Just weird, since I have seen it on a 89,90 and 94 models....
  16. A diaper on a Preserve1 sparked my attention today (pic attached). After Googling my ass off, and searching these forums, I still have not found my answer. I checked diapers on other Preserves, and the writing is the same. seems like catAgory is a common misspelling of the word catEgory, but it's hard to believe that a major manufacturer has been misspelling that for years... Can someone enlighten me if I am missing something ? thanks !
  17. Kinda the same way some may think having an ROL or spring-loaded PC or a 7 cell main may look silly ? Objectivity helps...
  18. And who forced you to do this? You made some bad choices live with it and move on. Sparky The OP is not complaining about their life choices. They are just saying that they have an tremendous intrinsic value attached to the funds that they were cheated out of. classifying one's choices as bad is an extremely subjective thing to do.
  19. the other solution is to put a piece of elastic in the same place that he hook velcro sits, and possibly a stiffener on the the bridle. Tuck the piece of bridle into that pocket, and voila - finally no more velcro !
  20. Not that Cobalts are that good for WS jumps (after my 2nd cutaway on it, I decided to tone the canopy down a bit :) but - if you are keeping it, you should strongly consider getting an H-mod done to it. It will have the nose braces, kinda like the canopy pictured.
  21. yes. your legstraps probably have the old style friction adapters (frame with a single bar) . My 2000 Javelin had the same problem, I now have the "new style" flip-flop SP888 adapters http://www.paragear.com/templates/base_template.asp?group=244#HSP888
  22. Based on having two RSK1's, both with well used Spectre120s, I think the Saf129 will be an extremely (read : unsafe) tight fit. a search shows similar responses : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1297292 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3808833
  23. Please specify what kind of definition you would like.
  24. in my experience if you are a "proportionately sized" 6ft person, a C17 will be usable, but uncomfortable.
