  6. that is exactly what i did... I had a couple of static lines in the air force, and decided i wanted more instead of jupmping right in to AFF i decided to do a tandem to make sure i would have no issues with freefall well as i thought... immediately after that one tandem, i decided AFF was the only way to go it took me several months to come up with the cash, but i waited until i could pay for the whole course, i am in the middle of AFF now, and having the time of my life Just Do It hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." 10. you got me Lisa depend... was not the right word use, the only thing I can depend is nothing, i know it is ultimately up to me to know when to say when, no visual or audible device is without issues, but as a low timer i want all the potential help i can get in order to help train my eyes as to what certain altitudes look like, that is why i am thinking of setting it at 2,000 or may be 2,500 feet so that when it goes off, i will already be under canopy (i hope) and i will look at my altimeter and then at the ground to train my eyes as to what it looks like, so that if i ever see that in freefall i will automatically say "pull now!" in my mind hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." 11. so whats the deal with the clicking sound if you continue to turn it counter clockwise? is that the reset point, as if you just maxed it out and now you have to start over by going clockwise until it zeros out? hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." RG
  12. yeah that much i knew... it just flipped me out when i kept turning counter clockwise and never got a beep, just that clicking sound, then i turn it a few times clockwise and all of a sudden it beeps for the first time while turning clockwise but after turning it further clockwise then coming back counter clockwise it beeped, so i assume all is well we shall see this weekend, i am going to set it at about 2000' where i should already be comfortably under canopy when it goes off definitely not going to depend on it for anything else until i put a few jumps on it and see where it goes off while under canopy hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." 13. well after i turned it counter clockwise until it clicked i then gradually turned it clockwise, i made almost two complete revolutions then it beeped, so i continued turning it clockwise another 45 degrees or so then crept it back counter clockwise and it beeped... does that mean it is ok? hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." 15. I just bought a used Standard Dytter (not the pro, but the old single alert model) and I have a question... I tried turning the dial counter clockwise to calibrate it here at the office, thinking I would get the alert tone when I hit that point... Well, all I got was a slight click. So I thought to myself, maybe the batteries are dead. On my lunch hour I went to Wal-Mart, took out all four batteries and the lady at the jewelry counter checked them and said yes they are dead. But after spending $12.00 on new batteries, I still only get that click, instead of an actual alert, when I turn the dial counter clockwise... Is this normal? Do I just need to take it up on my next jump and see what happens? hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." RG
  16. Fast Eddy is a cool guy... I did my first jump strapped to him. (immediatelt afterward I decided AFF was the next step on my agenda) Even though I have my reasons for not going back to ASC, I still think Fast Eddy was a great guy to do a jump with. hisgoofyness "650 acres of grass and 5 acres of pavement, why did you land on the taxiway..." 22. I am really suprised to see so many of us often dream lucidly... Funny thing is... When first starting college my ambition was to be a dream psychologist (not a shrink) but more so in the research field. I believe that our dreaming mind (i.e. subconscious) is the key to unlocking the 85% of our brain capacity that we don't use. I feel that if a person were able to explore their subconscious in a somewhat conscious method, such as lucid dreaming, we could unlock some of our hidden potential. Anyway, I want ramble on about that too much, but I have read several books on the topic and it continues to entice me to follow my original "dream job". Have any of you ever heard of Dr. Stephen LaBerge? He runs the Lucidity Institute in Palo Alto, CA. He wrote a book called "Lucid Dreaming" as well as many others on the topic. He is a very interesting man to learn about. Check out his website http://www.lucidity.com/ I will quit rambling now... hisgoofyness "kind of like a cloud, i was up.. way up in the sky..." nine inch nails
  23. Thanks for the input. I have spoke several times now with Heather at Wings, she is great to deal with. As a matter of fact the reserve will be a Dash M 181 (which will be "fixed" per the bulletin), and they said their container size W-13 will work out fine with the Tri 190. Heather did say it will be a little tight but since the Tri's are a little easier to pack it should fit ok. Then a few hundred jumps down the road I can go down to a 170... and then of course a hundred years from now maybe even a 150 in the same container...... oh, and if you read this Heather... Thank You for all your help ! hisgoofyness "kind of like a cloud, i was up.. way up in the sky..." nine inch nails
  24. i couldnt agree with you more bill i myself am a new jumper, and i can see a trend in those low experience jumpers that try to act as though they have seen or done just about all there is to do in skyding i am not trying to brag about my ability to logicaly reason out the bs, just that it seems obvious to me when a veteran of the sport opens his mouth about something also if i ask for someone's opinion then that is exactly what i want, i do not want a practiced marketing ploy of a speech, i simply want their honest opinion. i may be a bit off in my logic, but i want to hear from everyone i possibly can in order to better see the trends, and what appears to be heart felt knowledge that those veterans are excited to give in order to share their love of the sport to newcomers, i have only ran in to a few "skygods" in my conversations, and it was truly amazing how fast they singled themselves out i appreciate everyone here on the forums, i have learned a great deal from many of you, but ultimately when it is time for me to gear up, the only person's opinion that matters to me from then until my feet are safely back on the ground, is that of my jumpmaster just my .02 hisgoofyness "kind of like a cloud, i was up.. way up in the sky..." nine inch nails
  25. thanks for all your advice Bill i spoke with Heather at Wings yesterday, in an attempt to finalize exactly what I am going to order from them, come to find out Henry has a Raven M-181 (that he got in as a demo that has never been deployed and only packed a handful of times) that he said he would sell me at a good price to go along with my new container therefore i will probably go that route now all i have left to find is a cypres, that way i will be completely SAFE up there... LOL once again, thanks to everyone for their input, i truly appreciate it hisgoofyness "kind of like a cloud, i was up.. way up in the sky..." nine inch nails
