We tend to live in a society that's not very big into preventative action...........now I'm not sure about Norway...........but would suspect that it probably happened to someone. And you are right, danger does lurk everywhere.........but there are ways to minimize that danger. I know tons of parents that have moved when they found out they were going to have a child to provide their child a safer and better environment to grow up in. As a parent one looks at those things. And if a new danger was to arise, you'd have to look at that and figure out a solution.......arming them is one, moving is another. ...and you're in violation of your face!
-
You could take it even further too........if your kid got a papercut would you still allow him to use paper.....but let's cut the BS. Anyways........yes, there are tons of other dangers out there............hurricanes, avalanches (mud or snow), etc.. But this article deals with kids having to be trained to protect themselves from polar bears. Like I said, I think it's a good thing that these people are training their kids......but if there's a threat of getting eaten on the way to class, I wouldn't put my child in that danger. As far as moving.....I don't think it's the only answer, but I do believe it's another option. ...and you're in violation of your face!

While it is spreading out into the rural communities and the suburbs.........I think we can both agree that every small town and every remote location is not affected by them. Note how I didn't use words like all or none in my original statement. Negatory there.. there are MANY places in rural areas that are very polluted.... have very high crime rates due to the METH epedemic in those areas.. its very very prevalent in small town America ...and you're in violation of your face!

I think being eaten by a polar bear would be more traumatic than having to shoot a polar bear. As you hear the crunching sound of his teeth penetrating your skull, you're really going to think; "Darn, I sure wish I had a .44 magnum handgun right now." With your "just move" philosophy", we could quickly abandon about half of the earth's surface, or more. Would you put all the Eskimos in public housing in Chicago? What about all the Africans which face lions and crocodiles? The Californians and cougars? Alaskans and bears? Heck, pretty soon the entire U.S. population woulc be crammed into Otumwa, Iowa. And when it comes to predatory criminals, what happens when they follow us to where we've moved? Does the entire population have to then become gypsies, constantly on the run from criminals? No. Far better to stand and fight for your family and community. Make the criminals be the ones to go on the run. While I have no problem pursuing your philosophy of fighting for you community and family personally.............I don't feel it's my child's responsibility and it's not right to put them in that position. You gotta choose your battles...........and your child should be your number one deciding factor. ps - by moving out of bear country you wouldn't get mauled by a bear. ...and you're in violation of your face!
-
Nowhere in my statement did I say move out of Norway.....that was somebody else's assumption......I simply said move, as in a place where your kids don't have to walk around armed because they might get mauled by a polar bear. Pollution, drugs, and crime are everywhere in the world...........but as with the rest of the world, smaller towns and remote locations aren't affected by them or are affected very little by them. And you're right, if you were to throw a kid in Compton from Norway he'd probably be in some danger.............now put that in reverse, take some kid from compton and throw him in Norway's polar bear country.....................while it might make a great comedy movie plot, realistically they're both just out of their environment. Personally, I think it's a good idea to arm these kids and train them to protect themselves..................but if it were my child I would just choose to move. There's no sense putting your child through that. ...and you're in violation of your face!

America is a big place my friend...............big cities and quality terrorist targets don't cover the whole country. ...and you're in violation of your face!

she's got a point. ...and you're in violation of your face!

Let's put it this way.......what's more important where you live or your child's safety? .............................................................. I get your point. I don't think things are as simple as that though. There's many well meaning people who love their kids, who find themselves trapped in the life they lead and the place they live. I think there are plenty of examples of that. Life in Polar Bear country may also be safer than you think. Possibly it is as safe as living in many big cities.....Steve1 Where there's a will there's a way.........if kids started getting eaten by whatever in my neighborhood......regardless of where I was at in life....regardless of all the awesome things I've done to our house.......regardless of how good my job was.........regardless of all the friends I had in the vacinity.....................I would move. Your child should be more important than any of those. And while things might be tough for a bit, it's worth it. No need to overcomplicate things. Just the thought of your child being eaten alive by a bear and having to live for those few seconds in pain............I would fight that bear with a f'ing spoon so my kid wouldn't have to go through that. As if I'm gonna let my child's safety be dictated by some life circumstances. ...and you're in violation of your face!

......................................................................... Probably little Mary could walk to school with some older kids who were more gun savy. I doubt if anyone is going to arm a seven year old with a high powered rifle big enough to kill a Polar Bear. Try to imagine life in the far North. Sure it would be tramatic for even an adult to face a charging bear and kill it before it killed you. But wouldn't that be better than being a victim to a hungry bear? It's like planning ahead for the worst possible scenario. Kind of like wearing a reserve when you jump. Many of the Native people who live up North don't have the money to just move. They also are attached to their families, community, and culture. I doubt seriously if they are going to move. Native people have faced danger for countless centuries in the North, and they are survivors. Having their kids taught to use a gun is just another way to keep them safe.....Steve1 Let's put it this way.......what's more important where you live or your child's safety? ...and you're in violation of your face!

The Villification of Michael Vick and our own Cultural Ignorance

So we're in agreement that he broke the law. The culture thing I could care less about.......the fact is he broke the law and needs to pay the price therefore, I don't care if he's black, blue, white, yellow, red, or some off shade of purple. He broke the law that's that. As far as the media, he chose to be a pro-athelete......if he didn't want to be stuck in the spotlight or the media, he should've chose another profession. As for him being punished in an unjust manner and losing millions...........this is where we part ways. As part of his contract and bonus agreement he was to represent the team in a positive manner. His actions obviously did not represent the team in a positive manner. So who's at fault for him losing millions and being treated the way he is. It's his fault, nobody else's..........he made the choice to go down that road, nobody else. He also chose to sign a contract with the team saying that he was supposed to represent the team in a positive manner.....nobody made him sign it. He broke the agreement, he started breeding dogs for illegal activites, he killed dogs for amusement.............it's his own stupid fault. It has nothing to do with race or culture. He tried to cover up his involvement, so he obviously knew it was wrong. Those were his choices. "I'm sorry officer, I know I was speeding...but I'm german and it's part of my culture to drive fast because we have the autobahn".............try that sometime and see where it gets you. ...and you're in violation of your face! -
Thank you for asking.

Ah yes......the dreaded SEAL workout. Nothing like the old pushup pyramid. I would try emailing him again, I've emailed him like 3 or 4 times and got a response within 1.5 hours....the quickest was 15 minutes. As far as the ankles......yoga and stretching would probably be a good start, but I think just like running you have to slowly work your way up with fins. Good luck with the rescue swimmer thing, there's SEALs that flunk out of that school it's pretty tough. Just remember, you can do anything you put your mind to. Pushup pyramids are insane. Those really kick my ass. Yeah, I think my best option is just time and regular workouts using the fins. They're feeling a little better, but I think it'll take a couple months before they're really feeling good. I worked up to running 6 miles daily at one point near the end of my time as an undergrad, so I know I can do it with swimming. As for SEALs failing out of A-School, that doesn't surprise me. There's no way to prepare for how much swimming there actually is in A-School. Those who make it through the school are merely the less than 50% who want it most. And I want it more than most. The most amazing story I've heard about those guys is about one of them that was trying to get on to a ship during a storm.....fifty foot waves, out in the middle of the ocean. For those of you that don't know how they get onto ships in huge storm..........the ships hang nets over the side and the swimmer gets dropped off a ways out and swims in and grabs on to the net and climbs up.....because of the waves they have to time their approach with the waves.....getting slammed into the hull of the ship by a fifty foot wave could easily kill you. Anyways, either through his timing being off or the unpredictable waves, he gets slammed into the side of the ship. Breaks an arm and both legs, but due to the size of the storm the helicopter had to turn back. The next day they picked him up. He swam the whole night with two broken legs and a broken arm..........that's one tough mofo. Just remember, you can do anything you put your mind to. Yeah, they're crazy committed bastards. The mission comes above anything else. Just finished reading a book written by a former rescue swimmer who just retired from the service last year, and he states the mentality of a USCG Rescue Swimmer as, "I'll save that victim or I'll die trying." One of his stories was during his time in Mobile, Alabama, he received written reports from three rescue swimmers and their flight crews, they were tasked to save the crew of one fishing boat, only to be re-tasked with rescues of two others. First swimmer rescued the crew of one fishing boat, throwing up several times along the swim to the victims and back. And the hoist hook bent, so the ground crews fueled a new chopper and swapped them over and added a swimmer. Second swimmer swapped with the first to save the second crew and a dog, both swimmers threw up multiple times on the way there and back because of the rough seas, but managed to save everyone anyway. Third swimmer handled the original call, threw up several times himself, and pressed on to rescue every one of the crew of this fishing boat. All told, the three swimmers and two flight crews saved 12 survivors and one dog from these three sinkings in just over three hours of combined flying time. I'm sure it also has it's bad moments, but that has to be one of the most fulfilling jobs at the end of the day. ...and you're in violation of your face! -

we live in a country struck by "out of sight out of mind" syndrom.................you don't see the homeless people there's no problem, you don't see people dying because they don't have healthcare then there's no problem. But once there's a public eyes raised to those issues, then everybody is outraged. People are stuck in their 9-5ers, then have 3-4 hours to get home eat n relax til it's bed time......then they do that five to six days out of the week......then comes the payoff, 1 or 2 days of relax time. Your average people will spend that time catching up on chores, doing things with their family and/or friends, and relaxing rather than campaigning for some cause or researching the world's problems. But when those sad images get thrown in their face during relax time then it's hard to relax.....people get outraged. As far as Vick goes..........he broke the law repeatedly and tried to lie about it. he also agreed to stay out of trouble for his team as part of his contract. ...and you're in violation of your face! -

You know, ultimately there's a better solution than having your kid walk around with a shotgun to be able to make it to class alive. A story one of my betters once told........a student of his was having a conversation with him and noted that he was thinking about getting a gun for his wife because the neighborhood has been going down hill a bit and there had been an increase in the number of muggings and rapes because of it. The teacher's response............why not just move. And here's why.......can you imagine the horror inflicted on someone who has to shoot another person, they would be scarred for life. Now imagine a small child having to kill a charging polar bear. While some of the older kids might hunt already, here's little mary, just turned 7 and loves horses and teddy bears.......can you see her blowing away a 900 lb bear that's running at her full blast growling. Not really realistic. For the protection of your child, you would be better off just moving. ...and you're in violation of your face!

Been there done that, more than once...........no thanks. Talked my roomate in college into it too........"yeah dude, the chics love it". It was this stuff you heated up, put on, and when it hardened it was the consistancy of a wad of dried out silly putty....so you didn't have to use paper or cloth strips. Anyways....we're sitting there and he's asking me for tips right before he went in to the bathroom. "Make sure you cover everything, it's easier that way". So he did, all around his junk, up his butt crack, his stomach, and his thighs.................I'm waiting in the living room trying not to bust out laughing. All you heard was "1, 2, 3.....Rip.......AAAHHHHH!!!".........then some sighs, moving around, and some "holy shit" sounds. Two minutes later he walked out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist....."hey, this stuff doesn't come off does it?" All I could do was laugh. It took him about 3 hours to finish up. But his girlfriend did like the change. ...and you're in violation of your face!

yup the pic http://fanaticking.com/photos/Michael_Vick_Dog.jpg definitely doesn't look like a pet.......wake up dude, the guy is a sadist. As far as banning pitbulls..........that's bs. I've personally played with several pits that were little babies at the age of 3 and 4. While some breeds are naturally more aggressive than others..........it's really all about how they're raised. You'll find mean dogs in all the different breeds............the problems with pits is that a lot of idiots that are getting them are getting them because they want a "bad ass" dog and they aren't responsible owners........they don't take the time to properly train them or socialize them. As the video in one of the earlier posts showed, all different breeds are used for dog fighting. You keep poking a dog enough times with a cattleprod, eventually that dog is gonna want to bite something...then you throw it in a pit with another dog who's had the same treatment. The amount of time and planning that goes into raising and repetively beating these animals............the guy had time to think about what he was doing. They found close to 36 dogs burried.........that's a lot of chances to realize his mistakes and correct them. He tried to hide it, he also lied about it.................part of his contract was to stay out of trouble and he didn't do that. This isn't a race thing, he broke the law.........just a little bit shy of 36 times and that doesn't even include the gambling.....that's just killing the dogs. ...and you're in violation of your face! -

this would help you out ......... http://store.stewsmithptclub.com/coguhereswsw.html No worries, already been a Stew Smith fan for years. Just ordered that a week ago, been browsing it to figure out what my local resources will allow, and what they won't. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have the time or the equipment to do that whole 6 week workout right now, so I'm simply creating my own fitness plan based on his recommendations and my own resources and other fun ideas I've come across in reading other books and learning about fitness. And to ACME, I will. Thanks. Stew is the man...........don't hesitate to e-mail him with any questions. Every time that I've emailed him he's gotten back to me within an hour and a half. ...and you're in violation of your face! -
How to control healthcare costs in the United States
sv3n replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
This sounds as if you are proposing that socialized health care is going to be expensive and therefore we must eliminate speinding in other areas to pay for it. Thus, health care is not going to be inexpensive. We'll just redirect massive amounts of money to pay for it. Thus, we are looking at health care that is not rationed, high quality, and super expensive. Which is fine, if that's what you want. But since the purpose of this thread was how to keep costs under control, well, it seems that this is the antithesis. And proof that you cannot have cheap, high quality unrationed healthcare. You can have cheap, high quality rationed healthcare. Of your can have cheap and unrationed healthcare of low quality. Or you can have expensive health care that is unrationed and high quality. You are therefore picking winners and losers. Exactly what I said happens. The GOVERNMENT decides who wins and loses. A slippery slope. Interestingly, it's the same thing as my proposal, only instead of the government moving spending from wars and other things to health care I am proposing that individualse move their spending from beer, vehicles and Playstations to healthcare. Not at all.............with reduced costs we would actually be spending less on healthcare as a nation.........as I've previously shown, reducing our spending from $1.9 trillion down to about $600 million. With everybody saying........."oh it's not possible, there's no way we could afford it"............I just showed you how we could free up a whole other chunk of change. Figure out what 51% of our budget is............that's what we're spending on the military. Now let's say we reduce that by 31%.........that's a hefty chunk of change to save. We've just essentially saved that.........and saved about $1.3 trillion by covering everybody through a socialized healthcare system. Now things might go up a little bit if you're talking about unrationed care, but we have extra $1.3 trillion to play with. (If you want to know the numbers in depth.....read this thread, we've had enough double posts) We're not really picking winners or losers by cutting our costs and improving healthcare..........it's what's right for everybody. I think it's time to get our books back into the positive and start taking care of our people. ...and you're in violation of your face! -
let's just say that with my experience with him, I believe him. ...and you're in violation of your face!
