Olive oil has one of the lower smoke-points of the cooking oils, yes. Peanut oil has one of the highest. I am not aware of whether that becomes an issue on the grill or not, as far as the 'shrooms are concerned. I haven't grilled 'shrooms. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Get yourself a big Italian bread. Slather it with butter. Slather it with fresh minced garlic, Add a little salt. Slice the mushrooms and place them on the bread. Grate up some mozzarella cheese, maybe even some parmesan and spread it on the bread. Possibly add some artichoke hearts. Maybe some prosciutto or pepperoni. Wrap in foil and bake at about 350 for (not sure of the time, so keep checking after 15 minutes). OMG it's so awesome!

I would not think that it would--or should--come down to that. We are told that women and men are equals, and are entitled to EQUAL treatment. None of the "some are more equal than others" bullshit. Equal pay, equal opportunity, equal rights... and then we get to "who picks up the dinner check" and things go to shit. I wanted to know, in good faith, what the current protocol is on ships and stuff. Don't think I didn't ask that question of myself when I saw it. I think I would not have been willing to push the button--and I cheered the big black dude when he did the right thing (and then immediately thought, "Yeah, like that would ever happen, though. Condemned criminal suddenly grows a heart of gold? Suuuure.") Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

One of the BEST Simpsons episodes ever... Lisa needed braces. The sadistic dentist/orthodontist (with a wicked German-type accent) tries to persuade Ralph Wiggum to brush his teeth more often... so he forces him to look at "a picture book." McCain to announce his VP choice today

I think it would be a very wise tactical move to go with a woman. Obama gave up that chance. McCain still has it. (I have never heard of this Palin before, though.) Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -

Shit. I was hoping for Sarah Silverman! I'd've settled for Kay Bailey Hutchison. Imagine if a strong Texan woman had been on the ticket. Everything Hillary should have been, and better. Get the women vote. Get the conservative vote... Woulda been sweet. What a dunce for McCain to not go that route. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
If "all" killing could be stopped, that would probably be a good thing. But do you really feel that killing in self defense, when it is kill-or-be-killed, is also an abomination? Who the fuck asked you??? Oh, wait. That's your line. Sorry. The answer is, those are the very permutations & exceptions to which I was referring. Then there needs to be a discussion as to whether a certain situation does or does not amount to self-defense - personal self-defense, societal self-defense, etc. But I think it's best to have a moral code in which the initial default position is that killing is an abomination- and then work one's way from there. I didn't know Christ or Buddha personally, but I've read some of their books, and I suspect they'd agree with my general premise. So... who the fuck asked THEM?!! I agree, killing in general is wrong. (Well, of other human beings. I loves me steak, though, so I will not renounce killing of animals.) However, I do not view the life of a criminal taker-of-lives to be sanctified. I view it to be forfeit. That puts me in agreement with some, and at odds with some. So be it. We live in a world where it would be foolish to expect we will ever all agree on any single thing. Not even one. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

If it's so great, why do Canadians come to the U.S.? Why are British teeth so fugly? Now you are just trying to misunderstand me. I'm just trying to say that the way a state provide health care for all should be done in whatever way fits that state/culture best. This question don't have the same moral implication. /Martin No, I don't do that. I may get argumentative; sometimes you may not see the way I am opting to illustrate my point. But one thing I do not do is just nay-say to be a dick, or a thorn in people's sides. Believe it or not, my aim here is to discuss things, and like in the scientific method, peel away the bullshit so we can get to true understanding. Sometimes I make sport of it, but I never act in deliberate bad faith or deliberately "misunderstand" someone to bolster what I have been shown is a fallacy in my own argument. I would sooner concede, "I was wrong; you were right" (and have) than just be a bullshitter for the hell of it. In this case, I was using that example because I took you to mean that whatever is necessary to deliver this vaunted "universal care" is what should be done. If that was not your meaning, fine. Will US cities burn if Obama is not elected?
birdlike replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
His sarcasm is evident. Your's is either non-existent or oddly disguised and quite difficult to detect. Blues, Dave The use of sarcasm was to imply that the rest of us really do believe what he said only sarcastically. I guess you missed that. No, he didn't. "Look, I came here for a good argument!" Learn the difference between "malum prohibitum" and "malum in se," would you? In another thread, we were discussing H.D. Thoreau, who wrote "Civil Disobedience." Many consider him quite wise -- statesman-like, if you will. Tell me what is clearly "wrong" about carrying for one's own protection in places where misguided statutes would have you disarmed to be prey for criminals. Maybe we can then discuss those "law-abiding abolitionists" who thought nothing of helping escaped slaves to freedom on the Underground Railroad... Such shameful criminals, they! No, the point of having insurance is for each individual to pay the average individual cost of care spread over a large group of people; plus an adminstrative fee of about 10% for whoever is running the program, be it a private or public entity. That would seem to be the point of a wealth-redistribution scheme on the government's part. If that's what you want, say so. "Insurance" is indeed a way for a corporation to make money by doing that kind of redistribution. Are we both right? I dunno. I think we're splitting hairs. But the fact about insurance companies is that they would NOT INSURE someone if they knew that going in, he was going to cost them far in excess of how much he would ever pay them; and they would not be wrong to act that way. Must be a Tough Day to be Crying the "R" word...
birdlike replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Did I stand here and ridicule the things that you think are more important? I hope that people who sell out gun rights for socialized medicine are happy when the rest of their Constitutional rights are abridged into nonexistence and they have nothing with which to fight to take them back! Maybe those of us who stay armed will not be too keen on doing anything for those people if the time ever comes. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
Must be a Tough Day to be Crying the "R" word...
birdlike replied to Gawain's topic in Speakers Corner
Exactly, the most important issue for the USA right now is whether or not there should be any restriction on gun ownership. NOTHING is more important. Never fear, my good man. If your people get elected, soon we'll all be told what we're allowed to think, and of course our guns won't be ours for very long (unless we're willing to use them) so there possibly won't be folks like me bothering you with their awful, differing opinions much. That's what you want, yes? For those of us who value our ability to fight tyranny if need be, down the road, to be set straight to think like liberals? WE NEED TO BE "RE-EDUCATED," AND OBAMANATION IS JUST THE ADMINISTRATION TO DO IT!! GO OBAMA! Tell us what to think!! Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire -
Well, I think that your statement is kind of tautological. It's like saying, "Should we expect that in any utopian state, all of the people's needs will be met?" and of course, the answer is "yes." That is a fallacious argument, which fails to take into account that many things can be made more effective or efficient at a far greater cost than society would want to bear. Look at how we could cut down on crime if we put the National Guard on every street corner with belt-fed .50 cals and ordered all citizens to remain in their homes except to go to and from jobs, and to never come together in groups larger than two. Effective at combating crime? You betcha. Recommendable? I dare say, um, NO. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
